My brother and his girlfriend are heading to Lesotho in aid of the ISPCC charity. They’re going over in April but still need to raise funds for the trip so there will be a table quiz tonight at the Fob and Gill in Mayfield starting at 9pm.
I won’t be there tonight unfortunately but the last table quiz was great fun so if you’re wondering what you’re going to do tonight drop in and support a good cause!
Random thoughts that have occurred to me this Sunday evening after spending the weekend in Killarney, Co. Kerry in the south-west of Ireland.
Here I am blogging away at BarCamp South East. It’s been a great day so far. My talk was scheduled for 10:50am which was a relief to get out of the way. Feedback has been positive too and horrors of horrors, I actually enjoyed the talk! Video and podcasts will be online eventually and I’ll update this post when they’re available. Elly left Bernie’s dictaphone on the seat next to me, Joe and Conor had video cameras so I’m sure you’ll get to hear or watch me talk about WordPress one way or another if you’re interested!
Thank you all for the comments on yesterday’s post. I’m hopeful that things will return to normal sooner or later on inphotos.org!

I’m sitting in the Drupal talk now by Alan Burke and Stephane Corlosquet on the laptop. John Handelaar is showing off his voter site written in Drupal. It’s a great presentation on the power of Drupal and it’s plugins.

Yes, if you grew up in the eighties in Ireland then you’ll know all about Bosco. Aren’t we lucky?
Gardai are investigating a video found on bebo.com made by two lads from Cork. They made a video of themselves driving at 200km/h through the Jack Lynch Tunnel and then posted it on the Internet for all to see. I wonder who did they think would watch the video? Has the video made it outside Bebo yet? Apparently the Gardai have asked Bebo.com to take the video down so it could be gone for good. Pity, it could go down in Irish Internet Folklore.
While we’re waiting, here are two lads who decided to drive at speed through Dublin city center, at least until they passed an unmarked Garda car. (via Blogorrah)

They stopped us because it was an english reg in dub& they thought the car was stolen by a couple of nackers, also you cant see clearly but it was v. bad driving in rain,nearly ran someone down,run red light,speeding in bus lane,a guy videoing it in the front seat which they saw.
Normal cops dont threaten to shoot you and if it was normal cops we’d ave been in the shit. He started to search and got a call.

Reception to the new comedy on RTE has been less than favourable, or so it seems by what The Screaming Lady has to say as well as Blogorrah.
Was it really that bad? I didn’t watch it so I was spared the experience but someone must have done so! Go on admit it, what did you think of it? Was it a pile of trash or the greatest thing since Big Brother? (Or does that amount to the same thing anyway?)

Grandad makes the case for Newgrange being the oldest lap dancing club in the world. At over 5,000 years old it’s an ancient structure and quite important today, it being the Winter Solstice, but I’m not quite convinced that it was a lap dancing club.
I mean, if the girls had to swing around a wooden pole wouldn’t they have got slivers of wood in their hands. Polished steel works much better, or so I’m told. I suppose after a while the ol’ pole would have been worn smooth and I’m sure things would have gone swimmingly well then.
I don’t know where he comes up with the idea of orgies there either. I mean, this is Ireland, like.
In light of the day that’s in it, I have a nice picture of An Fear Marbh off the Kerry coast at sunset on my photoblog. Feel free to wonder why a man is lying on his back in the Atlantic and how that relates to the above..
The last 36 hours have been a fog filled void in most of Ireland and even in the UK too. Radio broadcasters have urged caution on the roads as visibility dropped down to a few yards in places.
It was into this mess that I drove this morning. Thick fog, the sun just peeping over the hills and visibility down to less than 10 yards. My drive from Blarney this morning was along a very straight country road that follows the contours of the surrounding hills up and down, blocking the view of oncoming traffic until the hill rises at the end of the straight stretch. It’s also a 60km/h road.
In deep fog I’m driving carefully and I spot headlights getting bigger and bigger in my mirror until the car behind is tailgating me at no more than a few feet. I could sense the frustration of the driver behind but hey, it’s foggy, I’m driving at the speed limit. There’s no way I’ll be bullied into driving faster in those conditions. Eventually he overtook me of course but we caught up with him at the junction sitting on the top of the hill, so here you go. To the driver of 98-D-455, “You’re a crazy driver! Was it worth risking all our lives to be ahead of me at the junction?”
Update! Driving along the same road back to Blarney this afternoon a Garda (Irish police force) car appeared and drove at speed until it was right behind me. It overtook me later in the 50km/h part of the road and sped off. Meanwhile a few seconds later another Garda car passed the other way speeding too. Why the hell do I stick to the speed limit if the police force don’t?
Langerland bring their latest creation, a Christmas story, The Nativity to the big screen with all your favourite characters. Even if you don’t recognise the names there’s something in this story for everyone!
It goes without saying that if you have strong feelings about Christianity you probably don’t want to watch this! (via)
