Nintendo 3DS, a 3D version of the Ninten…

Nintendo 3DS, a 3D version of the Nintendo DS will be released sometime in the next year. Cool.

Nintendo Co., Ltd.(Minami-ward of Kyoto-city, President Satoru Iwata) will launch “Nintendo 3DS”(temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.

Now all they need to do is solve the awful piracy problems on the DS and publishers might actually support the platform. (via Engadget and @conoro)

A super secret mockup of the Nintendo 3DS has just been revealed! (via gamovr and Retroremakes)

  1. I thjink I’ll be passing on all the 3D platforms – Nintendo and Sony at the moment. We had the original DS, then the DSi for my daughter – there’s no way we’re spending out again for the DS Ham Hands or whatever they call it and 3D to me is pretty pointless.

I think that many of the current DS technologies are under utilised (especially as many titles are ports from other formats) so I can see 3D being the same – how many developers are actively developing 3D games that are more than catching a big red ball (to paraphrase that guy from the video you posted the other day)?

    1. My only handheld console is the original GBA, and I never even used it that much. When I bought it I drove to work, and now I work from home where I have all my computers. Whenever we go anywhere I drive. Think handhelds are just for the kids?

  2. I can’t wait for the Nintendo 3DS to come out. I’ve heard that the 3DS will use a PICA200 graphics card. Isn’t that cool! Its top screen will have a ratio of 16:9 and both screens will have a resolution of 720p! I’m kind of bummed that the bottom screen will be smaller than the DS lite’s bottom screen, though. By the way, do you know if is it true that the Nintendo 3DS will have a multi-touch screen and a GPS?

    1. I read somewhere that the resolution will be 480×400 or something, but divide that by 2 for the two screens. Still fine for a small device!
