I used to believe that Windows 95 was the best version of Windows. Compared to previous Microsoft operating systems and software like Windows 3.1, how could I not think that way? DOS was great, it did the job it was supposed to and got out of the way when playing Doom 2 but Windows 95. Damn, that was a whole new ball game. Marvelous.
Now I’ve found something better. It’s a souped up version of Windows XP. Check out the screenshot. I’m getting rid of Linux. Ubuntu? Bah. It’s gone.
Following the news that €105m worth of cocaine was recovered from the waters off West Cork over the last 2 days it appears that some people have been down to the beaches helping Gardai with their investigation..
Thanks Derek for the image, anyone know where it came from originally?
Apple advertisments become cliches within a short space of time which is a testament to how good they are, or perhaps how often the fanboys go on about them in online forums…
Unfortunately Linux is still regarded as being a geeky system only and spoofs of the current Apple advert feature a guy dressed in a Tron costume look ridiculous and certainly won’t help. This advert from Novell may help change that. If it doesn’t, well it might pique the interest of some guys who will try Linux and like it. Even though the advert is sponsored by Novell, I recommend you try Ubuntu Linux. You can download and try it without installing and it’s super easy to use!
All in all, it’s a balance that we hope to have struck right: representing Linux as sexy and confident, while avoiding sexual cliches that are degrading to women. While there may be some flaws in our execution (particularly how the third video throws out the people as computers metaphor altogether), overall I really hope that we managed to create a playful spoof that effectively subverts the “Mac vs Windows” framework that Apple has established with the “Get a Mac” campaign.
Everybody and anybody who has an illness, a pain in the leg, a hurt somewhere, will use Google to find out what ails them. There is an inherent danger in that, but if you use a search engine that way, and believe the first result, then good luck to you, The Darwin Awards may need another category.
The rest of us go to the doctor, the dentist, or whatever health professional is appropriate. What if your company health plan depended on using Google to diagnose? That’s what Catbert, the evil director of Human Resources did today in this Dilbert cartoon. Arc Welder anyone?
If by chance you do suffer a tooth ache, then a Google Search could pay dividends, at least for short term relief. My toothache post has been insanely popular for a couple of years now and a few people have learned something about dealing with the pain. I found that swishing Vodka around in my mouth helped a lot. It says it on the Internet, it must be true!
I wonder what Britney Spears Googled that told her to shave her hair off? Poor girl.
It appears that the Danes have been just a little too good at slowing down traffic by employing a new method of attracting the attention of speeding drivers to speed limit signs. Drivers are literally queuing up to watch the young beauties holding the signs. Oops. The following video might be viewed as NSFW so click through with caution!
If you’ve never read the cartoons on biffsniff.com then you’re really missing out. They’re mostly drawn by Frank Prendergast and occasionally by guest cartoonists and they’re all extremely funny and clever. Frank’s a school friend I hadn’t seen in years but bumped into at the IT@Cork pre-conference dinner the other week.
Best of all, they’ve just moved to WordPress!
If you missed the Halloween episode of Killinaskully find someone who has recorded it! We just watched it and I haven’t laughed as much in a long time!
It’s all because Dieter offered the local populace some new cheese he had. Nightmares were the hilarious result. Robin Hood was ridiculously funny, and it’s obvious the zombie dance got it’s inspiration from a certain Thrilling song!
Marvelous stuff by Pat Shortt and company. Check out the site above for video clips to give you a taste of what Killinaskully is like as well as the usual promotional gig and video stuff.
Where is the evil in top posting when replying to a message on a mailing list? It’s something I’ve never understood, even after reading the many “why top posting is evil” posts and FAQs around the interweb.
Inspired by yet another email complaining about a top post to the GIMP mailing list I briefly searched Google, the source of all information in the world, and found this enlightening page on the evils of top-post complaints.
Regardless, top-posting flame wars are always fun to watch from the sidelines. People on both sides of the arguement will fight for their own side in what is a subjective matter and way of writing. Flame away!
As Mark says, Paris Hilton’s phone got hacked and her phone book was posted online. *Yawn*
Yes, there are pictures too but they’re the usual camera phone quality. No doubt a few of them will make it into the banner ads of some less than savoury websites shortly!
And yes, this is an excuse to name Paris Hilton on my blog. She is the most searched for female in Ireland. Thanks Darragh – blogs.linux.ie is going to be up there with the celeb sites for the latest trash news and speculation! 🙂 Much later… Now you too can see Paris Hilton’s cellphone for yourself. The guys at liquidgeneration have recreated her phone on the web and it’s extraordinary! hehe.
