Arcade emulator MAME saved the day for a software developer working on a mobile port of Spy Hunter.
Fascinating read about extracting the assets from the game to speed up development. Shame how the lawyers treated the guy who extracted the sound effects! (via)
Well, David did a great job editing episode 1 of The Gamer’s Craic. It’s now available for all to listen to and I sincerely hope you enjoy it.
Our first guest is Mike, or mj_whittle as many of you know him as. David and myself have been playing Bad Company 2 with Mike almost from day 1. If you’ve been following this blog for any length of time you’ll see me mention him again and again so he was an obvious choice to appear on the very first show.
More details about the podcast are here, and you can even subscribe to it through iTunes, although you’ll have to do it manually at the moment.
From the Apollo 13 Spacelog transcript. Good thing nobody had to get out and push. (via)
Jack Swigert (CMP):
Okay, Joe. I’ll tell you, I’m just trying to figure out where we are here.
…..
Joe Kerwin (CAPCOM):
Roger, Jack. We see that. Of course, there’s a lot of cloudcover and you see it more clearly than we do, but it does look like the Earth, not the Moon.
Filed under travel because, well, you can’t travel much further than the moon and back. Right?
This is a new podcast David and myself will be hosting where we chat with a guest about gaming. The guest will be someone we know from the Battlefield community so it’ll have a bias towards that but we’re going to cover other topics too. If you’re on our friends list watch out!
Check out David’s announcement post on the podcast blog for more details (or not, we’re keeping it suitably vague!)
Coyno joined a game against cheaters using the PBR glitch to drive a boat under the map on Operation Hastings. So, not only Hill 137 then. Hope it gets fixed soon.
WP Super Cache is a full page caching plugin for WordPress that makes your website run much faster!
Version 0.9.9.8 has been released and has a number of bug fixes and changes including:
CDN updates: it can be switched off. Multiple CNAMEs can be used for serving static content to improve performance.
Uninstall process improved. Files that the plugin creates are removed, and the wp-config.php and .htaccess files are fixed. If the plugin can’t do any of these steps it will display a message explaining what to do.
Cached dynamic pages can now be stored in Supercache files and compressed. No need to use legacy caching any more.
1and1 Webhosting fix. They use “/kunden/” in some of their paths but not others.
I removed the “log by email” functionality as it caused problems for users who were inundated by email.
Many more minor fixes and changes.
The old uninstall process has been completely revamped. Now all you need to do is deactivate it on the plugins page. It will then remove wp-cache-config.php and advanced-cache.php. It will also remove the extra code it added to wp-config.php and the .htaccess file. On the off chance it can’t remove those files it will print a helpful message asking you to fix the problem. Unfortunately this class of plugin (full page caching plugins) are by design more complicated than regular plugins and are more invasive.
Got a problem with the plugin? Use the support forum please. Support queries posted here may be ignored or deleted.
This is 5 minutes out of a very long 49 minute Bad Company 2 game I played with Duck and DrunkinDunkin on one base on Oasis. I wasn’t in the helicopter, a player with over 6000 helicopter kills was piloting it and tore up our defenses. Thankfully the rest of his team weren’t so good. π
I’d love to hear if you have any tips for Oasis. It’s one map I really have rarely done well in. I think it was Cards or gt who tweeted that he gets on to the AA gun before any blueberries get there to take down any incoming helicopters. Could have done with your help in this game!
Some visual adjustments
e.g. race colours, track names gfx dropped, title screen modified etc.
AGA fixed
Cracked π
Long time readers will know my dislike for Blur and I’ve hardly played NFS Hot Pursuit since I got it last month but Stunt Car Racer gripped me like no other racer since. It required perfectly timed boosts, cornering and was literally a rollercoaster of a ride.
This is the first part of a great presentation given by Michael Steil at 27C3 last year. The 6502 was the CPU used on many 8 bit computers of the eighties like the Commodore 64, Apple I and II and NES.
It’s an hour long presentation split into 6 parts, I’ve only watched the part above but it brings me back 20 years when I used to code in assembler using an Action Replay cartridge on my C64.
Check out this post for the rest of the presentation. I’ll be watching them later tonight.
