Better uninstall for Supercache and other things
I need your help. Go grab the development version of WP Super Cache off the download page and give it a whirl. I’m working on making the uninstall process less painful than it is in the current release.
I added an action on the deactivate hook for the plugin so when you deactivate it on the Plugins page it deletes the files the plugin created and removes the WP_CACHE definition from wp-config.php. It doesn’t yet remove the mod_rewrite rules from the .htaccess file though. Sometimes people put the WordPress rules in the same block of that file so removing the rules would stop the site serving requests! I will of course gladly accept code patches to do that job.
No more messing with uninstall.php now, just deactivate on your plugins page.
Besides that, the CDN page has an on/off switch and can use multiple hostnames now. The cache can be cleared when caching is disabled and dynamic pages can be served by using PHP mode rather than the slower “legacy mode”.
There are also numerous bug fixes so if you have a development site and a few minutes to spare why not give this a go? Please?

I wish I hadn’t played Bad Company 2 Vietnam on PC first.
I had a very quick 5 minute game with TheFingersHurt on Phu Bai (say that in Cork and they’ll think you’re a local commenting on a nasty smell.. “The smell of that pooh, bai. It’s terrible!”)
Anyway, I got slaughtered as we joined a game of Conquest where we got overrun 110-0.
Still, back on topic. Over the weekend I played Bad Company 2 for the first time on PC and struggled with it but admired the gorgeous graphics. I didn’t think they were that much different to that on the consoles but now having played Vietnam on Xbox I’ve changed my mind. Maybe it was because I was so used to the graphics I didn’t notice, but since Vietnam is all new I certainly did on those maps. Now I know what PC owners say when they say games recorded from consoles look muddy.
Golly. I need to lie down.
Success at BfBC2 on PC?
Well, this was a turn up for the books! I hopped on to a BfBC2 server that had the text “noob” in it’s title to find a game on Heavy Metal and then Harvest and I did well! I even shot a Black Hawk out of the sky with a tank shell!
I’m sure it’s a fluke, but I’ll still celebrate success!

Observations by a console player on the PC version of Bad Company 2:
- Vietnam looks gorgeous. It’s a very different game, maps are so varied. Can’t wait to play them with my console friends.
- Voice chat? What’s that. The in-game chat is so broken people use external servers. Useless when playing with randoms.
- Guess what? Playing with a team of wookies is just as much fun (not) as it is on consoles.
- There’s no skill matching like there is on consoles. Getting into a server where you’re matched up evenly is pot luck. There is some sort of mechanism to even out the teams but you can still have skilled and noob players on each team.
- Learning to use the mouse and keyboard instead of a controller is like going from QWERTY to Dvorak. Yes, it’s that painful. At this stage using a controller is second nature and instinctive (except for grenades/melee!) but it will obviously take a while to get there with PC controls again. It’s been over a decade since I used these controls on a regular basis.

Black Ops Combat Training split screen can actually be fun! I figured out that the second player can change team so we’re both on the same side so myself and my brother had a ball against the enemy AI.
Getcrackin joined us for a few games too and as we were playing recruits he mowed them down!
I’m sure recruit level difficulty is more difficult than it was when the game first came out. The enemy AI throw a lot less grenades now too. I didn’t need flak jacket at all!
Bad Company 2 Vietnam Review
IGN already have a review of Bad Company 2 Vietnam on their site and they give it a thumbs up! They even go so far as to wonder why the expansion isn’t a fully separate game altogether! My guess is that it will encourage more sales of Bad Company 2, while still making sales to existing owners.
Honestly, the most confusing thing about Bad Company 2 – Vietnam is why it isn’t a separate game entirely. EA demonstrated their ability to successfully market and sell a standalone downloadable last summer with Battlefield 1943, and Bad Company 2 – Vietnam is even more distinctive.
Looks like I’ll probably be buying this twice. Once for PS3 and again for the Xbox if enough of my friends on each platform buy it. Let’s make it simple, who’s not buying the Vietnam expansion?
Update! Added the IGN video review!
Error: too much fun on Heavy Metal
I have to admit. Heavy Metal is one of those maps I have fun on, while playing the objective of course!
Here’s a game I played with TheFingersHurt, Gaggapudding and BasicTorshiro on the Xbox a few nights ago. Unfortunately the server crashed after only a few minutes but there was still enough time to get up to some trouble! 🙂

Who’s up for some MAG? I’ve only played it once, when I got the Move controller and I got destroyed so I’ll probably use the ordinary controller next time! It hasn’t caught the attention of Youtubers like BLOPS or BfBC2 has but there must be more people playing it than Medal of Honour online surely? (Don’t call be Shirley!)
You’d think I had loads of time to spare. Might be a few days before I get a chance to play again!
Link Exchange Spammers Are Back Again!
Well, the link spammers never really went away did they? Has anyone noticed a huge increase in the number of “link exchange” emails or is it that I’ve been added to a particularly busy spammer’s list? I just noticed that a few recent ones contained the text “emailsnomore(dot)com” so I’m going to add a gmail filter to delete any emails containing that domain. You probably should too.
