Rocky Memphis and The Temple of Ophuxoff

If you’re an older gamer who loved the classic gameplay of Rick Dangerous and other platformers you’ll love Rocky Memphis and The Temple of Ophuxoff, a freeware game made by Trevor (Smilia) Storey and Stuart Collier.

It’s a huge 600 screen platformer to explore so this won’t be finished quickly. It’s “casual gamer” friendly too as there are infinite lives and you can save the game at any time, and you can upload your top scores to the game website. It’s also available for Windows and Mac OS X so you (probably) don’t have any excuse for not trying it!

Here’s an interview with the authors including titbits about their Last Ninja remake, and news of their Myth remake too. They also shed some light on sales of the commercial Armalyte remake. If I had a PC I’d buy that in an instant!

Bad Company 2 on the Xbox 360 has better…

Bad Company 2 on the Xbox 360 has better audio than the PS3. At least that’s my impression every time I hear it. Maybe it’s my headphones but the audio sounds clearer, and more vibrant.

Anyway, I joined TheFingersHurt and two of his friends, Gaggapudding and BasicTorshiro for a few games of Bad Company 2 on the Xbox. First up was conquest on Heavy Metal and games on that are as manic as they are when I’m playing with my friends on PS3. Mad racing jeeps, indiscriminate firing of rockets and bumping of each other’s vehicles and that sort of madness!

We played rush on Oasis too, and when attacking failed miserably right until we made a concerted effort. I smoked up the area, we armed Bravo and defended it but it was too late. Still, we defended the same base successfully on the first game too so maybe it’s hard to attack? We tried Cold War too but the less said about that the better. Ahem.

Should have gameplay videos of those games up sometime, the games of on Heavy Metal were especially mad and memorable!

BfBC2 with the PS3 Coffin Dodgers

Here’s a game I played with some of the guys from PS3 Coffin Dodgers on Friday evening. We had a few great games, and about halfway through this one Chris and Duck joined us so I hopped over to their squad. Great game, lots of fun.

As I asked in the video, what games in your collection have you not played? I haven’t played Bioshock 1 (except for a bit of the demo) and 2, only a tiny bit of Assassin’s Creed II, and even stopped playing the last Batman game when MW2 came out last year. I thought Dirt 2 looked superb but I tired of it within a short time. I ask this because I got 2 games for my birthday recently and have yet to even load them up. My wife kindly got me a voucher too, but I wonder what I should spend it on. You can’t buy “spare time” in the shops!

Don’t get me started on my collection of C64 and Amiga titles. I’ve probably played most of the C64 ones but I didn’t have an Amiga that long so I don’t even know what all the good ones are. Must fire up the emulators again some evening for a blast!

Note: video is unlisted and unedited because Youtube is having a hissy fit about accepting edits right now.

Bad Company 2 Vietnam Videos

Found on the EA forums where you’ll get to enjoy the usual PC owner blathering about consoles and first person shooters! There are a few more videos on that thread too but they’re all in the first post.

I wonder what they’d make of these tweets from Jay:

Bad Company 2 conquest last night for me…

Bad Company 2 conquest last night for me, and it was all on the old maps. I don’t know what happened to the map rotation but none of the new ones appeared.

I was playing with a few guys from Ps3 Coffin Dodgers first, then Chris, his friend and Conor joined our team so I squaded up with them. Niall joined us later and we blasted through the enemy like a hot knife through butter!

I had a particularly good time with the UMP and 4x scope. I tend to avoid that scope but because the maps are so big it was a boon. Got lots of great footage so expect some gameplay videos at some stage! 🙂

The Battle for Hastings

A fifth map has been anounced as part of the Vietnam expansion for Bad Company 2! Only thing is, we the players have to unlock it by performing 69 million team actions across all Bad Company 2 games after December 21st. I’m sure that won’t take long. See the trailer above for a sneak preview of the map!

Some of you might recognize the setting, as this is the classic Operation Hastings map made famous in our PC game Battlefield: Vietnam from 2004.

If you didn’t play it back then, it’s one of the favorites among our fans, featuring everything awesome in one fantastic arena: boats, helicopters, tanks, jeeps, temples, and the signature bridge dividing the map into two strategic areas.
