The Skorpian in COD4 Modern Warfare is a beast, for a starter gun. I leveled up to rank 4 last night and at random chose this gun in one of my custom classes. It’s incredibly powerful at close range. I won numerous 1 on 1 close quarter battles with it, even earning a few UAVs against more experienced players.

(Not me playing, obviously)

Score wise I didn’t do particularly well in any game as my KDR was rarely positive but later on we jumped into Bad Company 2 Conquest. I did alright, until the server started throwing me out at regular intervals. Level 50 medics with M60s are getting to be a bit of cliche in that game. After suffering one too many deaths at the hands of the AN-94 I swapped back to that weapon myself and rediscovered how utterly powerful it is. (Sorry Mike for scaring you, I wanted to practise rapid firing the fire button!)

I had a few games of squad deathmatch too, losing the first but then almost everyone backed out for the second game and most teams only had one player. I led the game for the first 11 kills. Good buzz, but it got so boring and it was late so I didn’t have time to waste.

Couple of games of WAW with Conor to start with and I had a few half decent games. Got a few double kills, and even earned the recon plane once. Lots of trash talking in the lobbies of course. If I’m playing it without anyone on my friends list I’m going to set the VOIP volume to 0 so I don’t have to hear all that crap.

Top of the team!

We followed that up with a coop campaign game, and were joined by 2 others. One of whom sounded like a 12 yro and kept saying, “follow me, I know where the ray gun is!” He got that ray gun of course.

The MP40 with Juggernaut is a beast of a combination and I know I wasn’t the only one using it! The distinctive sound of that gun is easy to make out..

Blur finally as David said they were trying to get some footage for Duck. We joined very late and I only had one game. Conor and I came last and second last. I really don’t think Blur is going to be part of my regular gaming.

Great Bad Company 2 triple commentary by Cards, David and Colin on a game we played 2 weeks ago. What sets this triple commentary apart from others is that I was playing too!
No, that’s not it. David’s editing of the video takes this format to a higher level. In other multi-video commentaries I’ve watched the producer will show the videos of all participants on the screen, one in each corner and I’m left wondering, “Who the hell do I watch? I’m not going to watch each little box! Watch this video 4 times? Screw that!” No, David zoomed in and out of his and Cards’ videos as action took place. It’s a simple trick but takes time to do well and he took that time. Nice work.

PS. Cards says the most powerful class in WAW is the following:

MP40
magnum
Bouncing Betties
Juggernaut
Steady Aim.

Heed his warning never use it again once you get good at the game! šŸ™‚

Say Hi to Colin on PS3!

It’s public now. DCRU Colin has a Playstation 3! Cards posted a video yesterday announcing the news. I had a few games with them the other night but it went on until about 2am so I unfortunately won’t be doing that too often. Great guys to play with though.

The utterly fantastic intro on the commentary above was created by David and edited by Colin. Very nice work I’m sure you’ll agree!

PS. I wondered if anyone had noticed Colin playing in this game posted by David, and he was noticed but kept quiet about it. Best kept secret?

After last Friday’s games my Bad Company 2 skill level jumped up to 400! Just had a game of SDM with matched players and got slaughtered! Same story with Conquest. Ouch.

From a high of 403 it collapsed to 291 after SDM to 203 after a few games of Conquest. Woohoo! Next game I have should be considerably easier. Sorry Duck, Sulley, Conor and Wiid šŸ™‚

Somehow Duck spawned on top of a tree in Nelson Bay. I joined him there for a minute but then jumped down to take this photo..
I always thought they preferred water.

Panama Canal SDM

Map Pack #6 brought with it squad deathmatch on Panama Canal for Bad Company 2 so I wanted to try that last night. The first team I joined didn’t make much headway and I joined late. I still managed a positive KDR of 12/7, best on my squad. The winners of that game only needed 5 kills or so to win but the next game with the squad was so slow. I’d say people from the other squads left in-between. It took an age to get to 11 kills and we were winning but I was so bored I started shooting into the air to attract attention! That’s one problem with SDM on this map, you need a full game.

I tried squad rush on Laguna Presa after that game but ended up on a team that was on the last base when Mike logged in so I jumped out and we got into another game of SDM.

Wow. When you join a couple of guys using their mics it makes so much of a difference! We joined when our squad had 5 kills and the leading team had almost 40. Before the game ended we had closed the gap and ended up with 43 kills. I finished with a KDR of 10/4 for that one.

The next game with these guys was on Panama Canal again and was similar. At the start of the game the map was empty but it filled up. We had a blast and won that game fairly easily! KDR after that was 14/3! Mike got 15 kills, two of us got 14 and one 7 kills.

With regret I had to leave as it was getting late but those were fun games.

SDM on Panama Canal is a funny beast. There are lots of wookies as it’s a huge map. To counter that there’s lots of cover too. Most of the battles took place at C where it’s very dangerous hanging out on the roof. You can be hit be assault rifles from quite a distance away. (I should know! hehe) But if you stay around there you’re going to come across the enemy so it’s a good spot.

Making life more difficult for snipers are the multiple routes around the map. More than once I almost walked up on a sniper who’s aiming down sights. That’s an easy and static target for any enemy. There are also lots of flanking routes too, so watch out. I flanked a wookie who was expecting me to come straight at me around a container. I went the other way and got him from the side!

Beware of falling into the water. At one end of the dock, away from the bridge of the ship there, if you fall in you have to climb out by swimming out of bounds. Do it as quickly as you can. I barely made it back to the play area.

Bonus – the first SDM on Panama Canal video I’ve found:

So at first we played with some crummy teams in Bad Company 2 Conquest last night but then played a couple of games of SDM which were a blast. Later on we teamed up with some good guys! Unfortunately the opposition were pretty tough too! I managed a positive or 1.0 KDR in only two games but we won a share of games too. Yes, I was that guy taking a bullet for the team.

Good News! There was hardly any C4 whoring! I armed a crate in one game when a wookie on my team rushed in and through stick after stick of C4 on it. I was shouting, “NOOOOO! Those were my points! I got here first!” but luckily he got killed by the enemy, I took out a medic but then fell myself. Too late to disarm the crate though! šŸ™‚

Rush defence on Nelson Bay was particularly tough. We were down to our last base, and fought tooth and nail to secure it. I got several disarms and suffered an atrocious number of deaths but we got our win.

The final game I played on Isla was totally different as most of the enemy were camped on the hills around the first island. Every few minutes a helicopter would come flying in, crash and a single solitary soldier would leap out only to succumb to a hail of lead. They didn’t have a chance.

Thanks to almost all my regular team mates for joining in at one stage or another. Most of the team was made up of friends for quite a while which was a blast. Pity the PS3 doesn’t have the equivalent of Xbox Live party chat or we’d have totally kicked ass.
