Awesome Bad Company 2 video showing how effective the tracer dart and teamplay can be.
After a few successful games of Bad Company 2 last night my KDR has increased to 0.53 it would be higher but I tried leveling up the assault class too, with disastrous results!
I joined a game of SDM with David earlier in the evening. It was my favourite map, Laguna Presa, and I only popped in to see if I could get on to David’s squad. I couldn’t, and I died several times, once at David’s hands!
Thanks Geoff for the invite into the game. I didn’t contribute much and then got kicked by the network as my DSL had a hissy fit. Maybe next time.
After seeing a clip yesterday where a team used smoke grenades to attack and successfully destroy a base I decided I needed to work on the assault class. Unfortunately it was the last game of the evening for me and as mentioned previously, I didn’t do too well.
Highlight of the evening: Attacking on Isla, riding a jetski to the island and taking Bravo within a few minutes of the game starting. We had 69 tickets left after taking that one!
I bought a shiny new combination scanner/printer/copier last weekend. It’s the Canon MP492 and I expected it would work just fine in Linux. I mean, it’s just a printer, right?
Nope. The printer was detected as a Canon MP490 but unfortunately the CUPS system used by Ubuntu Linux didn’t support that particular version. It supported the 520 and others but no sign of my new purchase. To be honest, I was dumb founded. I even configured it on my Macbook and thought about sharing it over the network but the Macbook is on the wireless network while everything else is wired, and I didn’t feel like making things more complicated.
So I went searching again and eventually found this helpful thread (it didn’t show up on my first searches, Google refresh?). Drivers are available for the printer here on the Canon Thailand website. Thankfully the instructions were all in English, and the .deb package installed and configured correctly. Drivers for the scanner are listed on that forum post too but I don’t have an immediate need for that so I didn’t test them out.
Phew.
The printer itself is an average photocopying machine that does the job. Here’s the back cover of the December 1954 issue of the National Geographic. The copy is pretty good except for banding on big blocks of colour like that in the Coca Cola logo.
I’m still waiting on a reply from play-asia.com to my query over the weekend about the component switcher cable I ordered.
I’m not prepared to wait any longer so I sent them a note cancelling the purchase.
Instead, I’ve ordered the V2 version of the cable from divineo in the UK. It looks like the only difference between the XCM Multi-Consoles Component Cable V2 and V3 is support for the PSP and Xbox which I’ll never have to worry about. It’s also slightly cheaper which is always a bonus. Hope they get it to me before the weekend.
I got a message this morning saying my Xbox Live subscription would be extended by 7 days on May 1st because I bought the Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack on Day 1.
So, let’s see, 34/52 is around 0.65 Euro. A tiny bonus but people will be singing their praises all day I bet!
Meanwhile, here’s a quad bike going airborne courtesy of Field Operative. Wow.
Field Operative published a guide to getting all your friends on to one team in Battlefield Bad Company 2 on Xbox 360. If you use use the private chat feature of Xbox Live you can talk to all of your team! It will take a while to get everyone on the same team because of the limitations of the game but it can be done. It must be quite amazing to play on a team of 12 who are coordinated and following one single strategy.
Unfortunately a similar chat feature doesn’t exist on the PS3 but friends can still join the session if the game has free slots.
Different type of gaming, real life this time. Here’s a quick video showing how to make a neat paper airplane that actually flies quite well. I made 2 for my son and he’s delighted! You can find instructions and diagrams on the author’s site too.
The search for Ken Burton on the Xbox 360 continues (by some). I received this strange message yesterday by someone who friended me on Xbox Live (his friend added me too for reasons that are all too apparent now).
Is there a search for Ken Burton’s gamertag on? Surely it’s highly visible on all his videos?
r u ken burton?
Eddie and myself had some very good games of Bad Company 2 tonight, and then a couple of odd ones.
First of all, my hat goes off to dutch452. On Nelson Bay we were defending and doing a good job but suddenly there was a lack of attackers. People left the game in droves until there were about 4 defenders and one attacker, Dutch452. We traded kills a few times and to be honest it wasn’t the most exciting game. He managed to take out Alpha by flanking us and then staying in the upstairs where he killed me. (I shot him through the floor from outside when I saw where he was, but not before dying at least twice!) He then took Bravo with mortar strikes!
Myself and Eddie left the game shortly after and I sent Dutch452 a congratulatory message. Hope he won in the end but he replied that he was out of ideas!
Further oddness, in the next game we were 3 down on the other team, and eventually lost the game. A bloody UAV ran me over as I defended the base. Grrr.
To add to the oddness, the global scoreboard page showed only me in second place after the rightful first place player. I’ll have screenshots tomorrow.
