Uuga uuga, as Dave would say. Someone’s complaining that the AN-94 is overpowered. As I’ve just unlocked it and I’m doing rather well with it, I probably have to agree that it’s quite powerful. As a burst weapon I’ve found it hard to win in a 1 on 1 against a medic equipped with an M60. It takes practice and some skill to shoot people at close range.

Will it get nerfed in the next patch? Boo!

Details of the next Bad Company 2 Patch

Bad Company 2 is going to be patched again shortly and I’ve discovered what changes are coming thanks to this reddit post! Some of the exciting changes include:

  1. Removed ability for gunners to actually hit things while vehicle is moving.
  2. Medics can no longer defibrillate vehicles in order to kill the occupants inside.
  3. The M60 is no longer compatible with the 12x scope.
  4. Added trick functionality to ATV and Quad to encourage players to do sick wheelies and jumps off wicked high cliffs.
  5. Assault kits now have the option to have 40mm confetti when choosing assault weapons. Confetti can be used to trick enemy players into thinking it is their birthday.
  6. Added a number of old west style weapons to promote our upcoming title “Battlefield 1842”.

Can’t wait!

Playing Bad Company 2 with strangers can…

Playing Bad Company 2 with strangers can be tough! First 3 or so games I entered my team lost within a few minutes. I finally did join a half decent team and won perhaps 2 games. I even used the attic attack and took Alpha on Port Valdez! Luckily Bravo was taken at the exact same time and only one recon guy came to investigate Alpha right before it blew up. The final crate blew just as I was killed, but I had taken out 3 defenders with help from a motion mine tossed nearby.

On the third base I flanked the whole place, taking out a few defenders on the way. Two of my squad spawned on me and we kept the construction site defended the whole round! While a tank and some of the enemy concentrated on us the rest of our team took the crates. It was beautiful, and we got the best squad pin in the game. Woo!

I used the M16, and it’s a beast but I think I prefer the AN-94. I’m up to 190 kills with that gun already! 🙂

I came across nobody who used their mics. None whatsoever. Argh!

Bit tired tonight so my aim and reflexes weren’t as good as at the weekend, but I still managed to increase my KDR by 0.01 to 0.72. I unlocked the PP-2000.

David said I’d like the M16 in Bad Comp…

David said I’d like the M16 in Bad Company 2 since I like the AN-94 and after watching this video I think he may be right.

What’s your favourite load out with the M16? Muzza says magnum ammo isn’t needed and armour is better but I like to compensate for my lack of skill at aiming. What do you think?

On another note, Muzza has unlocked all the weapons in the game and is selling it because he’s bored of it. I suppose we all get bored with games from time to time but this isn’t the first time I heard of someone reaching this decision. Thankfully Alex didn’t get rid of BC2 and he still posts stuff, including some sweet screenshots from the PC version.

Babysitting Mama

Wii owners rejoice! News just in that a new title, “Babysitting Mama” will be released this holiday season.

The game promises to bring all the joys and challenges of taking care of a newborn baby to your Nintendo Wii. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? For the most realistic experience of course you have to leave your Wii and TV on all night so it can wake you up from your slumber at 1am, 3am and 5am for feeding. I doubt they’ll have that.

Does this sound fun to anyone? I’m a work-at-home dad; during the day I’m writing and editing stories while parenting our ten-month-old son. On a good day I get to use the bathroom when I need to. On a bad day my eyes glaze over with a thousand-yard stare. I love my kids, but having a baby is a job with no days off, no pause button, and no cheat codes. Turning that experience into a game where the child will never grow up, go to college, and allow you to have a single dinner out with your wife sounds like… fun?

Who gets World of Goo?

I had forgotten about my World of Goo giveaway.

There were two entries, from Fieldoperative and Tomasz making it all the harder to pick the winner.

With the help of random.org I picked one. It was a toss up between 1 and 2. It picked 2 which means Tomasz wins. Email me at donncha @ ocaoimh.ie with your preferred operating system!

Sorry Fieldoperative, wish I had another spare copy to give away!

Google for Pacman

So, Pacman turned 30 in the last few days and Google put a Pacman game on it’s front page for the day! If you missed it, you can still play Pacman online.

Apparently it’s written in HTML, Javascript and CSS with Flash only used for sound so it will work almost as well on iPhones and iPads.

The Guardian has a great post on it, as does Dave and many others.

Got online and Mick was just heading off…

Got online and Mick was just heading off so I hopped into a game of Bad Company 2 squad deathmatch. Thankfully I joined a team with 2 guys using their mics so it was fun. We won the first round fairly decisively, I got 8 kills, but didn’t do so well in the following games. KDR was steady around 1 or slightly below.

I joined a game of rush when those two left and joined a game attacking on Port Valdez. Alpha was already taken but since nobody was using their mic I wasn’t told until I had ridden a quad up to the smoking ruins of the building. Mick logged in and joined my squad so it was a relief to hear a friendly voice. Dunno what the rest of our squad made of our banter about the weather and the nice day we had today 🙂

We fairly quickly took each base, on the last base I got into a HUMV Mick was shooting from and drove us up to Alpha with the idea of setting the bomb there quickly. I did, but unfortunately a recon guy on the defending team had planted C4 on it and detonated it. Silly bugger killed me but also damaged his own crate! I spawned later as an engineer but I needn’t have bothered. We controlled their helicopter and the game finished quickly.

KDR has gone up by 0.01 to 0.71, got an extra 4 dog tags too. Mostly in SDM. Got a gold star for my an-94! Win/Loss ratio went down by 0.01 to 1.33. Oh well.

PS. check out Dave’s blog. He’s posting footage from some of our games!

Played some great games of Bad Company 2…

Played some great games of Bad Company 2 tonight. Started off with Mark, then Mick joined shortly after and we stopped the opposition on the first base of Nelson Bay! Woah!

We did lose one game I think, on Laguna Presa. Teams changed and they evened out but they were great fun to play. Defending the last Bravo crate on Laguna Presa was tense, especially as they had set a bomb with only a ticket or two left but we won eventually.

Uzi is pretty good, I used that tonight for the first time. Took down the Blackhawk on Port Valdez with a CG after tracing it. It flew straight overhead, whoosh, boom! Game ended in a win a few seconds later as Mick defended the bomb on Bravo.

Ranked to 21, got positive KDR almost all the time and unlocked the M16 and USAS-12.
Got a Gold Star for my AN-94 already. 144 kills. Only 57 yesterday.

KDR has increased by 0.03 to 0.70, Win/Loss ratio is 1.34. They’re headed in the right direction!
