Bad Company 2: Smoking on Isla Inocentes Rush

Yet another gameplay, but this time rush on Isla Inocentes. Audio was recorded through my Macbook’s internal microphone and it sounded fine when I played it back before uploading but now I can hear a slight background hiss.
Unfortunately the 3.5mm jack on the Macbook isn’t powered so a cheap and cheerful mic won’t work and I need to use a USB one. Complications, complications, complications!

From the description I posted on Youtube:

Using smoke to confound the enemy on Isla Inocentes. I never do well when I use smoke but it helps the team sometimes. I spend so much time smoking up an area I become a target for snipers. I guess I have to be exposed to enemy fire more often than I like too.

I did figure one important thing from this game. You can spot enemy players through your own smoke.

Audio was recorded on my aging Macbook’s internal mic and it’s nice and loud. Shame about the slight background noise and right at the end my wife came into the kitchen but thankfully didn’t do anything but roll her eyes as I spoke to my computer!

My KDR is slowly creeping up, it’s 0.86 now. I doubt I’ll ever get it to 1.00 simply because I don’t have time to play it that much and my early games in standard resolution really put a dent in my stats. One of these days I’ll be a good player. Yeah. Right.

Colin’s Rush Playbook for Isla Inocentes is here

Defending Bases on Nelson Bay

Bad Company 2 is a game that relies heavily on team work to win matches. None so necessary as when the crates have to be defended in game of rush. Here’s a game where I helped in that role several times.

Notice I got revived? The poor medic got shot down by the same mounted gun that shot me down a moment earlier. Oh dear. (see this video for more of his reviving work..)

Music is a great remix of C64 classic game Delta’s main tune. Remix by Graeme Slapp while the original was by Rob Hubbard.

Defending on Nelson Bay

Another gameplay video, this time Bad Company 2 and on Nelson Bay again. Duck had just signed off but I stayed around for a few more games. In a previous game the team we were playing won a lengthy 30 minute game of rush by C4ing the one remaining MCOM station when they were down to 7 tickets. An act of desperation, and really pissed me off after such a long battle! That’s probably one reason we stuck to Alpha in this base. We had to.

Commentary volume is slightly higher but I had to talk quietly because the rest of my family were in bed and I didn’t want to wake them up!

I have just completed my first commentar…

I have just completed my first commentary and boy is it bad. Not the gameplay, well, that’s only average. What the hell do I talk about for 14 minutes? I ramble on about retro computers, a bit of WordPress, assembler coding, and a tiny bit of gameplay related chatter.

I edited it all in iMovie 08, on Colin’s recommendation, and it was easy enough to use once I learned a few basic tricks.

I don’t know yet if I’ll make it public, but if you’re really curious about it, send me a DM on Twitter and I’ll send you the url when it’s uploaded. Warning, it’s cringe worthy!

In case you’re wondering, I used HDPVRCapture to record the game. I bought EyeTV the day before but it never worked properly so I opened a ticket on their support system. Finally, today they replied. Turns out the EyeTV 3 only supports the North American (NTSC?) HDPVR. It says so, buried deep down in this page. Don’t worry if you can’t find it, you’ll have to hunt. Thankfully they’re giving me a refund. That’s great because HDPVRCapture only cost me $29.95 and works perfectly!

Oh! Hi there Tye!

So we had some great games of Bad Company 2 last night. I was playing for quite a bit with Mike and Duck and sent numerous invites to Tye. When I eventually bumped into him it wasn’t quite in the fashion I expected…

Got some great clips, but it also recorded our voice chat (well, except mine) so I need to configure the PS3 correctly to avoid that in the future. On the other hand, I’m glad I did get Mike’s frantic “Get him! Get him! Get him!” as I danced with an enemy in a small room with knifes out! I was laughing so much it’s probably a good thing I wasn’t recorded!

Edit: Here’s that knife dance. Warning, some of the game chat is NSFW. And a bonus clip too, a sniper montage by Mike!

A Bad Company 2 patch for PCs will hit servers tomorrow and among other bug fixes and tweaks this little change caught my eye. Hope it comes to consoles soon, but I haven’t seen many people C4ing crates recently so perhaps it’s a little late for this patch ..

Reduced all weapon damage to the MCOM by 50%

Lots of other changes, including an AN-94 change to reduce it’s short range damage.

So, is this patch too little, too late for Bad Company 2? Will we be still playing this game 2 years from now?

Hell of a Bad Company 2 gaming session l…

Hell of a Bad Company 2 gaming session last night with bigpresh and his friend (who I don’t remember right now). We rocked every game, winning almost all of them, and racking up the kills. I’m pretty sure we got best team in each game too.

After watching this video by Colin I decided to try the 40mm shotgun attachment but I really never got the chance to use it effectively. The one time I knew an enemy was waiting for me behind a corner I missed him and ended up knifing him. Then 2 of his squad mates showed up, I knifed one, and shot the other just as he shot me. It all happened so fast the second dog tags came up as I was respawning! Got a nice 300 points for that encounter!

In other news, if you’re RPGing an MCOM station on Nelson Bay, please make sure you check your corners. Thanks for the dog tags! 😉

My global KDR increased to 0.85, skill level plummeted to 1.75 (don’t care, gets me easier games in the future) and my KDR for the night was 1.59!

Great games.

Bad Company 2 Conquest went well tonight…

Bad Company 2 Conquest went well tonight. First with Mike and then with Duck. We didn’t win every game but they were enjoyable and that’s the main thing isn’t it? Got the “Flag Attacker Pin” 3 times too. Capture 4 flags in a round.

The other night my brother called over and we played some split screen Halo Reach. Good fun in Firefight, and Duck joined us again. We were slaughtered when we joined a game of Swat Magnums. Ouch. Tye joined us just as we were logging off, so hopefully we’ll get a few games in another night.

Congrats David on getting 1000 subscribers to your channel. Great achievement and a testament to the entertaining videos you upload!

I rendered a Halo Reach game and while I did upload it to show a few people, I want to add some sort of commentary on it before I make it public. Here’s a tip for Linux users, who have a remote server and who render videos on Bungie Pro. Download the video from bungie.net on to your server. I used wget in an ssh session. It downloaded the full 515MB in a matter of minutes. Then launch Chrome, Firefox or your favourite browser from your server and display it on your desktop machine using the remote desktop ability in X and login to Youtube. Now hit the upload form and when you browse you’ll actually be browsing your server’s home directory! I uploaded that 515MB file in about 2 minutes. My home broadband would have been there all night doing that as the upload speed is much slower than download!

That was the funniest game of Bad Compan…

That was the funniest game of Bad Company 2. Only one defender on a game of Rush (and he eventually left) so we all loaded up with C4 and it was a race to blow the crates! The last crate was the best. Someone was dancing on the crate, spinning around and around like in Cardnumber7’s intro while 2 or 3 more players threw C4 on there for special effect. Oh how we laughed.

A following game on Isla against a team who piled helicopter after helicopter into the MCOM stations was a touch and go thing. As an engineer I stood in front of the first Alpha, heard the heli incoming, saw it and fired a rocket point blank range and got a vehicle destruction. It couldn’t have been more than a few feet from the ground! It was a really long game and they managed to push us right back to the last base. They took Bravo and Alpha was on it’s last legs. They had 29 tickets but we whittled them down, until we eventually won.

I went recon during that game just to unlock a few more items. I also got my “Long Service Surveillance Ops” pin for 100 motion mine assists. Had some fun with the SV98 too, getting a few noscope kills and I unlocked the sniper spotting scope. Good games with Tye, Mike, Duck and Conor.
