Welcome Reddit Fans!

beckham was kind enough to submit one of my posts to reddit.com yesterday resulting in a nice little spike of traffic to my Crazy shotgun, knife and explosive BC2 Montage post.

It’s not quite the digg effect but a nice bump for a blog of this size. Thank you, and hope you enjoyed the video!

Yes, this video is pretty amazing too, thanks for the link!

OK, it’s after midnight, I’ll be up ea…

OK, it’s after midnight, I’ll be up early, this is a quick post about the great couple of Bad Company 2 rounds I played with David tonight. Some of the rounds were evenly matched but others were totally lopsided. Both for us and against us. We both got lots of practice in various tanks and helicopters and played really well as a team.

I also played a few rounds with Dutch452 on Xbox earlier, and we did rather well. I leveled up to 10, and improved my win/loss ratio.

On the PS3 it was rough going for quite a while as I decided to level up the assault class. I eventually unlocked the ammo box, but I’m still stuck with the AEK-971. My KDR went up by 0.02. Woo.

More tomorrow (err, tonight) when I’ll hook the PS3 up to the TV and get HD again. Standard resolution is really doing my head in and no sign of the switcher cable from Devineo yet.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2: SAM5000’s UMP Rush Gameplay On Isla Inocentes

SAM5000i shows off a very quick rush on Isla Inocentes, and shares some useful tips about kits and specializations to use. I haven’t unlocked the body armour yet but I have some of the others. I must pay closer attention to them as I usually just leave it at whatever I had on in the previous game.

PS3 text chat to communicate with your team in Bad Company2

OK, so the Xbox has a handy private voice chat feature. You can use that feature to communicate with your entire team in Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the Xbox.

The PS3 has a voice/video chat feature but it doesn’t work when you’re in a game. It does have a private text chat feature however. If you’re playing with friends on your team, and they’re not on the same squad, invite them all to a private text chat session. If you have something to say hit the Playstation button on your controller and type. When someone writes something that text will appear as a notification in the corner of your screen. This will also work if your friends are on the opposite team and might make getting them all on your team that little bit easier.

Needless to say, you need a keyboard to do this effectively.

Thank you Geoff for the inspiration for this post.

Update! Geoff pointed out Ventrilo Server. It’s surround sound VOIP software. You could use it on a dedicated server (I have two) and have all your team connect their clients to it but they’d need to have PCs running Windows or Linux or a Mac next to their gaming rig.

Come to think of it, you could use Skype and set up a conference call. Might be problematic hearing other voices if you’ve got gaming headphones on though.

After a few successful games of Bad Comp…

After a few successful games of Bad Company 2 last night my KDR has increased to 0.53 it would be higher but I tried leveling up the assault class too, with disastrous results!

I joined a game of SDM with David earlier in the evening. It was my favourite map, Laguna Presa, and I only popped in to see if I could get on to David’s squad. I couldn’t, and I died several times, once at David’s hands!

Thanks Geoff for the invite into the game. I didn’t contribute much and then got kicked by the network as my DSL had a hissy fit. Maybe next time.

After seeing a clip yesterday where a team used smoke grenades to attack and successfully destroy a base I decided I needed to work on the assault class. Unfortunately it was the last game of the evening for me and as mentioned previously, I didn’t do too well.

Highlight of the evening: Attacking on Isla, riding a jetski to the island and taking Bravo within a few minutes of the game starting. We had 69 tickets left after taking that one!

Field Operative published a guide to get…

Field Operative published a guide to getting all your friends on to one team in Battlefield Bad Company 2 on Xbox 360. If you use use the private chat feature of Xbox Live you can talk to all of your team! It will take a while to get everyone on the same team because of the limitations of the game but it can be done. It must be quite amazing to play on a team of 12 who are coordinated and following one single strategy.

Unfortunately a similar chat feature doesn’t exist on the PS3 but friends can still join the session if the game has free slots.

Eddie and myself had some very good game…

Eddie and myself had some very good games of Bad Company 2 tonight, and then a couple of odd ones.

First of all, my hat goes off to dutch452. On Nelson Bay we were defending and doing a good job but suddenly there was a lack of attackers. People left the game in droves until there were about 4 defenders and one attacker, Dutch452. We traded kills a few times and to be honest it wasn’t the most exciting game. He managed to take out Alpha by flanking us and then staying in the upstairs where he killed me. (I shot him through the floor from outside when I saw where he was, but not before dying at least twice!) He then took Bravo with mortar strikes!

Myself and Eddie left the game shortly after and I sent Dutch452 a congratulatory message. Hope he won in the end but he replied that he was out of ideas!

Further oddness, in the next game we were 3 down on the other team, and eventually lost the game. A bloody UAV ran me over as I defended the base. Grrr.

To add to the oddness, the global scoreboard page showed only me in second place after the rightful first place player. I’ll have screenshots tomorrow.

Bad Company 2 Weapon Stats

Did you know that weapon statistics in Bad Company 2 change depending on platform? Me neither but this spreadsheet suggests it does.

For example, on PC the M60 does 25 points damage close up but on the consoles it does 31.3 points. It looks like all weapons are slightly more powerful on the consoles than on PC. Probably to help those of us who have to use a controller rather than a mouse and keyboard as FPSes were meant to be played with. (via)

Also check out Den Kirson’s page which is chock full of stats on just about everything in the game. I did not know this about spotting:

Spotting, like the repair tool, uses “overheat” to prevent excessive Socialize use.
The player is capable of about five Socialize button presses in rapid succession before overheating and being inoperable for five seconds.
With the cooldown, the fastest continuous rate that a player can spot without overheating is once every two seconds.

I hope Den doesn’t mind me copying the images off his page. You should really visit there for complete explanations of what each abbreviation and column mean.
