Bravo 2 Company FTW!

Paul posted the launch video for a new Battlefield clan, Bravo 2 Company, I’ve joined him in the clan and next time I fire up Bad Company 2 I’m changing my clan tag to B2C. Haven’t played an FPS in ages though, I’ve been too engrossed (and exhausted in the evenings) in Minecraft.

Check out the clan homepage where you can register and join up if the want!

Battlefield 3 has extra pre-order content

As seen here, in the Community Press Room, here in various other places this morning.

This was one of the Battlefield 3 images released yesterday but someone modified the filename slightly and got this image which includes the following information:

The Battlefield 3 Limited Edition includes pack Battlefield 3: Back To Karkand at no extra charge*.

This themed expansion pack features four legendary maps from Battlefield 2 boldly reimagined with Frostbite 2 physics, destruction and visuals.
Completing the package are classic Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles, unique rewards, new achievements/trophies and more.
For those who don’t pre-order to secure the limited edition, Battlefield 3: Back To Karkand will be available for purchase approximately one month after the game’s release

So, either that was a smart marketing ploy by EA and the modified filename was leaked by someone there or this was a lucky guess. It’s not confirmed yet and there’s plenty of time to pre-order your copy. I should probably ask, “Who isn’t pre-ordering Battlefield 3?” rather than the opposite!

Every report of this “find” says “someone” found it, not naming who so I presume it was an EA leak.

MechWarrior Living Legends Anyone?

Youtube commentator Mileycyrusthevirus has moved on from Bad Company 2 and is playing MechWarrior Living Legends. It’s a free mod of Crysis Warhead (that was on sale during the Steam Sale!) which I have so I might go look for it. Can’t beat huge mechs, jets and tanks fighting out all over the place can you?

I’m listening to episode 2 of the The G…

I’m listening to episode 2 of the The Gamer’s Craic. TyeWebb (Youtube, Twitter) was our guest of honour and we talk about lots of stuff including dodgy ports of games, “pay to boost” in Bad Company 2 (I still disagree with David over that one) and there’s too much in there of me talking about old ASM coding on the C64. I’ll be covering $D012 in the next one.

Oh, hi Paul and Ron and Andrea, you get a mention too!

Free Cake!

Last week I decided my VPS has too many spare cycles so I installed Minecraft on it and invited a few friends on to look around. Duck was first there and created a house for himself before his laptop gave up the ghost on Friday evening. Then TyeWebb logged in and created an impressive home, complete with roaring fire and paintings on the walls! Sulley started on his own house as well.

My son Adam watched as I fooled around on the server yesterday evening and he was delighted when I called Tye on Skype and used the laptop mic and speakers to chat to him. Adam called him the “red man” after the Duke Nukem skin on his character. Minecraft is definitely best played in a social way, especially if you have a three and a half year old looking over your shoulder. When I logged in this morning over breakfast I noticed a new block and sign just outside my house. Tye had baked a cake! Num num.

Here’s my own house, and as you can see I won’t ever have to worry about the cold winters we’re experiencing now. It might be a bit hot in the summer though.

I don’t need to worry about underfloor heating either. As a bonus I’ll save on electricity bills too as no lighting will be required! The sulphuric fumes might be a problem however. Maybe I’ll surround the lava in a glass enclosure? It drains down to a cave below so I might be able to do something with that too!

Apparently nobody uses the in-game team …

Apparently nobody uses the in-game team chat in Bad Company 2 on PC so lots of people use Mumble. Unfortunately that can have unforeseen consequences when both teams are on the same Mumble server…

Defender: Watch out guys, we have enemies in the back of our base
Attacker: …….no i’m not……

Next time I fire up the game on PC I’ll join that Mumble server and see for myself. (via)

Battlefield Tweeters

A lot of Battlefield players are also on Twitter, here’s a few of them:

This is by no means an exhaustive list but if you play Bad Company 2 check out these guys and tell them Donncha sent you! Many of these people have Youtube channels too and I’ll add them later but in the meantime check out this list and of course dontrevivemebro.com.
