I met up with AJ on Saturday afternoon and spent 2 hours looking around and taking photos!

Donoughmore Vintage Festival, July 31st, 2005
The village of Donoughmore in Co. Cork played host to a vintage festival on Sunday that attracted people from all over Munster. Apart from the vintage vehicles there were plenty of other activities. Here’s a taster of what it was like.. Click the picture for more.

Bill Cullen: Golden Apples
I heard (the real) Bill Cullen on Ray D’arcy’s show yesterday. He’s very funny but wow, what energy! Ray said he had to lie down and rest after talking to him! At the ages of 63 he wants to be the first Irishman (disputed in two comments in this link) into space and has already paid a deposit on his ticket. I heard he hopes to raise at least 1 million Euro for charity by doing this!
Ian Dempsey’s show just played an excellent Gift Grub taking the piss this morning. Listen for the repeat tomorrow morning if you missed it!

Topography of Ireland
Here’s a very large 3293×4168 topographical map of Ireland. It’s huge!
Here’s how they did it.

I still don’t have a working camera but I do have a camera phone..

The C64 disk drive was called the 1541. When I saw this car in front of me I had to snap it!

The recent Sudan Red 1 scare made many more people aware of how our food stuffs are made from ingredients from all over the world! This was a sign outside Tesco in Douglas, Cork.
Ardmore Village and Round Tower
Following on from Frank’s suggestion a few days ago I took a trip down to Ardmore yesterday!
Alas, I have a sorry tale to tell, my trusty Sony 717 camera may have shot it’s last photo. It now sees nothing but black and I’ll have to inquire about getting it fixed. Missed the beautiful sunset later of a blazing red ball of flame setting over Youghal later too! *sob*

Sneem Sunset – 3 photo panorama
The picture above is a panorama made up of 3 hand-held shots taken in Sneem, Co. Kerry.
Stitching them together in the GIMP was fairly easy – adjust colours and brightness, line them up using semi-transparent layers and then use a layer mask and a gradient to make the joins mostly invisible. The tree branches were a bother though – I had to clone out some of them!
I really should document some of this stuff as this was a good example – because of the sunset each photo had very different light qualities and it was important to fine tune and match those colours.
Sunset Over Sneem, Co. Kerry
Where were you today? I spent the day in Sneem, Co. Kerry and took several photos of this picturesque village and surrounding area. Very cold today but worth the visit just to get out and away from the world for a short while!
Oooer, that NCT feeling!
I brought my car down to the Blarney NCT center this morning and checked in and joined a lot of other worried looking guys in the waiting room. The tension in the room was palpable as soon as I entered, and when vehicles were driven into the test garage half the room stood up and stared intensely through the windows. I read about discovering new earths in National Geographic.. when else am I going to get half an hour to do nothing but read? The disquiet and oppressive atmosphere was lightened considerably by a 3 year old girl and her parents – the parents were worried, but their daughter was oblivious reading her animal book and chatting to her mom!
Finally, just before 9am a man appeared at the waiting room door, said my name and I followed him out. With a smile he handed me my shiny new NCT certificate. Yay! No need to worry about that again until 2007!
