I’m not looking for cheap flights anywhere now, but when I am, I may very well use Kayak.com. It labels itself as, “not a travel agency, it’s a search engine that’s free to use.”

Photos From Space
APOD had two interesting photos over the last few days:
- APOD: 2005 November 14 – Everest Panorama from Mars – click on the image for a *huge* panorama!
- Lunation – animation of the moon over the course of a month.
Jintle has a lot more space photos too!
The Top Gear Survey 2005
If you were watching Top Gear tonight you no doubt took note of the Survey they released results for. They’re on the web but the lads in the studio didn’t have or couldn’t give out the URL. If you followed the suggest Google search, you’d have come across these two beauties:
- BBC – Top Gear Survey 2005 Results which appears to only show a summary. The top and bottom ten as well as category winners.
- The real meat is on topgear.com where they list all the cars entered as well as marques and ratings for each car.
I noticed with relish that Toyota are no. 5 in the manufacturer’s list. Surprisingly, Skoda are in second position, just behind Lexus. The purchase of Skoda by VW has paid off in recent years!
Install Sendmail – download link
The original Install-sendmail page is a little fscked up, so here’s another: http://blogs.linux.ie/xeer/install-sendmail/
There’s a download link to the newest release, which is probably the last. You should really be looking at Postfix, Exim, or any of the other easier to configure MTAs.
Not Qmail, of course. That piece of software is evil.
End of Groceries Order announced
The Groceries Order in Ireland is over! Big and small stores can now compete on price and consumers will hopefully benefit!
Savings per family per year could be anything between 500 and 1000 Euro for the “average” household. Whatever an average household is.
The Groceries Order banned the sale of goods below the invoice price.
There’s a great discussion on Today FM about it right now! 🙂
Google Video Downloader
Google Video Downloader Keepvid.com – nice, lists the last decoded urls too so there’s always fresh content. I may even subscribe to the rss feed!
Update traxio.net is taken by a domain squatter, updated URL above.
Oú est la centre de George Pompideu?
Éole’s photo reminded me of what Zig and Zag used to ask: Oú est la centre de George Pompideu?
It’s strange that there’s so little online about it!
Thankfully their other quotes are still making the rounds!
Web 2.0. What it can do for me.
Matt has an excellent idea for how he can make loads of money out of Web 2.0! It’s the perfect match of photography and language!
Hey, if he did open source it, or provide an API, it could be worked into a WordPress plugin so people could display their favourite photos and phrases on their blogs.
Cool!
That Hunkey Dorey Advert?
Ray D’Arcy and co are talking about the Hunkey Dorey advert that displays 3 ladies and asks, “Who would you throw out of bed for eating Hunkey Dorey crisps in bed?”
Has anyone seen it around Cork? For purely research purposes of course, I’d like to see the advert that would keep a line of drivers amused while the traffic lights changed to green and back to red while they stared at it!
make IT secure
If you use Windows you have to contend with viruses and trojans all over the Internet. Linux and Mac owners are a little luckier being that Linux is getting more secure by default, and both are niche operating systems.
makeITsecure is an Irish Government website set up to encourage Irish Internet users to protect their PCs. It’s a laudable effort, but sorely lacking as it doesn’t link to any of the free anti-virus or anti-adware products available! What about Ad-Aware, AVG Anti Virus or the very accessible Trend Mico Housecall that will scan your PC without installing anything?
Oh yes, makeITsecure.ie is sponsored by Microsoft and Symantec among others. At least the Microsoft AntiSpyware package is free. Let’s hope you have a genuine install of Windows eh?
