As the guys from work are going to be playing Halo Reach on Sunday evening I better get some practice in. I’ve still only played 24 games so I’m an utter noob at the game.
In the meantime take a gander at the video above. Some good tips for those of us who have never (or rarely) played a Halo game before this.
Well, finally. It was bound to happen. I had a half decent game of Halo Reach! I went 8/10 in a game of Slayer DMRS (which I think is an assault rifle with a scope). Game was on the same level as the tips video in my last post and you can see fairly detailed stats on this page.
I had heard that the stats Bungie offers for Halo were good, but dive into the page above. You can see number of kills by weapon, medals earned (oooh, I got 2 multi kills), and even see a timeline of the game. I would dearly love if Bad Company 2 had something as comprehensive!
Thanks Breeduh for teaming up and playing. It was a blast!
Later – good couple of games of BC2 with Conor and Mike, and then COD WAW after. I like Capture the Flag. Went positive which is always good 🙂
B3ndro gives some great tips for Halo Reach in the video above. He mentioned using Octagon as a means to practice so I went searching … It’s basically a small octagonal map, big enough for 1 vs 1 game and by the looks of things handy for aiming and practicing headshots!
Hutch vs GoldGlove
Hutch vs someone else but you can see some of the same gameplay. He throws a grenade in the opposite corner a few times, hoping to get a spawn kill I’m sure.
Destroy web pages with the simple bookmarklet from this page. Clicking the button on that page will launch a small Asteroids-like ship you can fly around a web pages shooting at the page elements and blowing them up. Fun.
I’m starting to get into the Campaign in Halo Reach now. I have to admit that after the space battle I was sort of disappointed there was no Elite style docking sequence and classical music to accompany me in…
(From the BBC version, which didn’t have the excellent music of the C64 version)
Oh, I played Halo Reach multiplayer last night and had my ass whooped again. I did get one lucky break. I had my sights on one guy and another stepped in front of him and I got a double kill! Wooh!
After that trouncing I booted up the PS3 and hopped into Onslaught where I had some great games, beating my best scores on Isla and Valparaiso!
One of the highlights of COD World at War is the zombie mode. No screaming, singing teenagers! Video above is a bit NSFW but it’s funny. You have been warned! (via)
Remember how I said I couldn’t get into this game? Well firefight is great fun! I just had a great game with duck and ryan lasting 40 minutes of quite tense shooting. When you’re last man standing and you have to finish off the current wave it gets bad, especially as you know your team are spectating.
It’s like Onslaught but at least each wave comes in randomly. You can’t predict that an enemy will be in a certain place at a certain time. That’s probably the score attack game.
Darn, where’s my hat. I bet it’ll go nice with some salt.
I played Bad Company 2 the other night with Mike and Conor and it was hard to find a full game. The first one or two were but soon we were playing with and against incomplete teams.
Perhaps it’s back to school time, or it could even be the Halo Reach effect. UK Xbox sales doubled in the last week so it’s likely many PS3 owners now own both consoles. David experienced the same thing which he mentions in the video above. One good thing however is the lack of C4ing of MCOM stations! There was hardly any (well, except on our team when there weren’t any defenders and people were just looking for points).
Me? I’ve played the Halo Reach campaign for an hour or so and a couple of games of the multiplayer and I’m finding it’s hard to really get into it. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m going up against super aimbot 360 noscope God-like players who hit me with headshots in every single encounter. Or it could be this too.
I didn’t think much of the graphics in Halo Reach. The textures of buildings and scenery lack the sort of detail I’ve been used to in Bad Company 2 for the most part, but in close combat the aliens look really good. I find multiplayer fights bland and emotionless. How can you feel empathy for a robot with no face? Sound is unfortunately nowhere near as good as in Bad Company 2 either. I’m not giving up on it just yet, it has potential (hell, I’ve hardly read anything but glowing reviews about the game) but so far it hasn’t yet convinced me that I should renew my Xbox Live Gold subscription when it expires.
PS. Check out my rubbish stats if you want a laugh. Yes, they really are that bad!
Halo Reach and Retro Gamer waiting for me when I got home. Cool.
Now I need sleep, some Bad Company 2 with the guys to get back into the gaming groove and then some Halo. I’m sure I’ll see Anthony playing it no matter what time I play it!
