Eddie and myself had some very good game…

Eddie and myself had some very good games of Bad Company 2 tonight, and then a couple of odd ones.

First of all, my hat goes off to dutch452. On Nelson Bay we were defending and doing a good job but suddenly there was a lack of attackers. People left the game in droves until there were about 4 defenders and one attacker, Dutch452. We traded kills a few times and to be honest it wasn’t the most exciting game. He managed to take out Alpha by flanking us and then staying in the upstairs where he killed me. (I shot him through the floor from outside when I saw where he was, but not before dying at least twice!) He then took Bravo with mortar strikes!

Myself and Eddie left the game shortly after and I sent Dutch452 a congratulatory message. Hope he won in the end but he replied that he was out of ideas!

Further oddness, in the next game we were 3 down on the other team, and eventually lost the game. A bloody UAV ran me over as I defended the base. Grrr.

To add to the oddness, the global scoreboard page showed only me in second place after the rightful first place player. I’ll have screenshots tomorrow.

Bad Company 2 Weapon Stats

Did you know that weapon statistics in Bad Company 2 change depending on platform? Me neither but this spreadsheet suggests it does.

For example, on PC the M60 does 25 points damage close up but on the consoles it does 31.3 points. It looks like all weapons are slightly more powerful on the consoles than on PC. Probably to help those of us who have to use a controller rather than a mouse and keyboard as FPSes were meant to be played with. (via)

Also check out Den Kirson’s page which is chock full of stats on just about everything in the game. I did not know this about spotting:

Spotting, like the repair tool, uses “overheat” to prevent excessive Socialize use.
The player is capable of about five Socialize button presses in rapid succession before overheating and being inoperable for five seconds.
With the cooldown, the fastest continuous rate that a player can spot without overheating is once every two seconds.

I hope Den doesn’t mind me copying the images off his page. You should really visit there for complete explanations of what each abbreviation and column mean.

Is the iPad suitable for gamers? For iPad games yes, but really the device doesn’t interest me. I spend all my day at a desk where I have access to more powerful machines. If I was going anywhere would I lug around an iPad? Possibly but the price definitely puts me off as I do so little traveling. It’s not available on this side of the Atlantic yet anyway.

Some of my colleagues at work are going mad over the iPad but I wondered if it was suitable for gamers? Here’s one gamer’s review of it. The ability to play split screen games is interesting. I’d love to give it a go, but God, I’m trying to drum up the enthusiasm to finish this post quickly. It was never meant to be a gamer’s device:

Here’s the verdict:

If you have to question if this a true gaming device or not – then it’s not a gaming device. Its just a device with games on it.

Good Saturday night gaming in Bad Company 2. Had a couple of great games with some brilliant squads.

Only friend playing BC2 was Geoff (and his game was full when I tried to join), but I struck gold with my squads. We pushed hard, played as a team. I did my bit reviving and healing up people and even did reasonably well shooting. Managed to level up from 3 to 5, and I’m just over 1,000 medic points from unlocking the M60.

Red dot sight helps a lot when you don’t have HD. I was spotting like a mad man too!

I may never have a KDR above 1.0 but that’s ok. It’s a kick ass team game! 🙂

Stand out moment? Spawned on dsnez behind cover, we took out a load of the defenders and I flanked Bravo and set the bomb. I died but dsnez kept the bomb site clear and the bomb blew!

I got a cheap USB keyboard to use with my PS3 and Xbox! Nice basic model from Sweex that cost me €9.99 and even came with a message from Leon!

PS. I also finally cleaned my monitor. In games I couldn’t make out the ball point pen marks at all but they really bugged me while doing any work or browsing the net.
PPS. The “XCM Multi-Consoles Component Cable V3” from Play Asia is still “Preparing order” 5 days after ordering it! Argh!

Congratulations must go out to Bruce Eve…

Congratulations must go out to Bruce Everiss who never gave up in his attempts to uncover the truth about the online game Evony.

The Chinese company finally threw in the towel on day two of the trial in Australia. Here’s hoping that’s the end of it and Bruce can get back to normal blogging.

The company abruptly abandoned its case against Everiss, which was being heard in the supreme court in Sydney, halfway through the second day of the case – and is now facing a legal bill of A$114,000 (£68,800) for the defence’s costs.

In a statement put out by Benjamin Gifford, the “vice development director” of Evony’s legal and intellectual property strategic division, the company said that it would not pursue the case in Australia or elsewhere. He told the Guardian that the decision had been driven by criticism from players of the game. “A lot of our players expressed opinions about the lawsuit,” he said, “and we reacted to that.”

Everiss, who lives in Coventry, declared himself “relieved” but noted that a quirk of the Australian legal process means that the case is not concluded until Evony pays a second tranche of A$80,000 of costs by 12 April. If it does not, the case reconvenes.
