Games Inspired by Music

Boing Boing recently ran a games inspired by music competition and a few of the entries were posted yesterday. Almost all will run in your browser, some are flash, some HTML5, and some unfortunately require other plugins to run.

I’m downloading Sean Monahan’s game, Beat Boost (entry page) at the moment but there’s also Knife Attack, Flatwar, Space Junk, Arctic Trek, Gobber Assault, Bounty Hunter and Infiltration.

Blacklight Tango Down

I first read about Blacklist Tango Down a few days ago and it looked very interesting. It’s a first person shooter with customizable weapons, 12 maps, lots of game modes, 4 coop maps playing against enemy AI, who spawn in random areas. (hear that DICE?)

It’s out today on Xbox Live but they’re still working on a PS3 version. Hopefully there’ll be a demo on XBL I can try later.

Edit: Patricia has written about her first impressions of the game.

New Map Modes for Bad Company 2

This post on reddit.com has the scoop on leaked information about “new” maps for Bad Company 2. Of course like previous “map packs”, they’re simply the current maps with new modes. Looks like someone hacked the content we already have and unlocked it before EA blessed us with the VIP goodness.

There are leaked photos here and a gallery of screenshots too.

What’s new?

  • Conquest mode at Port Valdez.
  • Conquest mode at Nelson Bay (daytime instead of night).
  • Rush mode at Atacama Desert.
  • Rush mode at White Pass.
  • More vehicles everywhere.
  • New vehicle is a moon-buggy type of HL2-buggy thing.

There are two VIP slots left in the BC2 store so don’t expect all this in one go, if ever. It’ll be drip fed to us. It’s shocking how bad EA/DICE have treated their customers.

Argh! The team we were just playing with…

Argh! The team we were just playing with sucked! We did a great job defending but alas, they got the plant and blew each of the crates. Still, the other games were great. First one was touch and go but the other team won in the end but we won the next 2 games I think, and finally lost the last one.

My skill level has gone up to 296 (or 166 according to BC2), KDR remains at 0.82 but KDR for the night was a respectable 1.22. Got an award too, the Air Warfare pin. I had the one UAV up almost the whole time on Port Valdez. Destroyed their Hind before it even got off the ground. But later the defenders sent their helicopters back twice to try and kill me. The first time the Hind crashed after I shot it to pieces, and the other heli successfully landed but the solitary soldier who got out was easy pickings for me as I jumped off the UAV controls. I boarded the heli but it only had 2 points of health so abandoned it.

Phew, needed a good night of reasonably fair and matched teams after the previous two nights! Thanks Mike and Gary for playing! Sorry Garry for shooting you when we were defending Alpha. You moved! Good thing it wasn’t hardcore! 🙂

Bad Habits

swordsmanx75 covers some of the bad habits he’s developed while playing first person shooters. I was very interested to hear about his FPS Freek one. He uses the joint of his thumb to aim so I hopped in a game tonight to see what I do. I think I use the flat of my thumb.

Do you use the tip of your thumb on the right stick? The FPS Freek makes it harder to use that because the stick is so long but it might be more accurate. I tried it and it wasn’t at all comfortable. Unfortunately for my little experiment I spent most of my time in the tank!
