I went into town this morning and came across this group of protestors on Princes Street. I didn’t know it at the time, but they were employees of O’Donovans Butchers, a 105 year old company with a premises on the street. They had all been let go the previous day. The Evening Echo has more on their front page.
The workers were protesting because they were laid off almost a week early with very little compensation despite many years of service in some cases.

Dust on my Sensor! Must Clean It!
There’s dust on the sensor of my 20D. I need to remove it. Here’s a few bits I found.
- Ken Rockwell has many tips, as usual
- This review of IMS DSLRClean looked very promising until I found the exact same one here too! Is it a paid-for product placement?
- Lots and lots of valuable information here.
Gulp! I hate the thought of wiping anything against my camera sensor!
MU Progress
There’s been lots happening lately in the world of WordPress MU. In this email to the wp-hackers list I detail some of those changes!
Can any Irish SMEs come to the parliament to prevent SWPAT?
Ciaran O’Riordan asks Irish business to go to Brussels and talk to their MEPs about software patents. We really only have next week to catch them in their offices, so who’s going?
Contact your local TD if you can!
Here’s that Guardian article RMS wrote with a very simple and clear example to show why patents are not the same as copyright, why they are absurd!
Later.. Brian has more.
Bonfire Night
It’s bonfire night here in Cork. Is this celebrated anywhere else in Ireland? I was at home in the suburbs earlier and I could see black smoke rising from all around. Needless to say, this night is one of the busiest for the fire service!
DJ's wife sold his Lotus for 50p
I need to get rid of this car immediately – ideally in the next 2-3 hours before my cheating arsehole husband gets home to find it gone and all his belongings in the street.
I am the registered owner and I have the log book. Please only buy if you can pick up tonight.

Philips DVD-R610 DVD Recorder
I saw the Philips DVD-R610 DVD Recorder in Tesco this evening priced at 249 Euro. I was tempted to buy but decided to look up reviews instead. Doesn’t look like a good buy at all! The reviews above are all scathing and negative!
