Aether, a mod for Minecraft that is, “a celestial realm found in outer limits of the atmosphere. The Aether is what you could call the “antipole” of the Nether. The Nether is a network of desolate, fiery caverns filled with bloodstained Cobblestone and sticky Soulsand; it lies beneath the very soil of our Minecraft world. The Aether, on the other hand, is a collection of floating plains and islands, all connected together to create a breathtaking dimension of the skies. Even during the night, the Aether is still quite peaceful, and a normal day in the Aether is the equivalent of three days on the surface.”
It has floating whales, new block types, angry birds, and dungeon systems protected by guardians!
Unfortunately it’s not trivial to install and when the next Minecraft update comes out it’ll mess everything up, probably. Still looks like a stunning mod for the game! (via)
Minecraft is dead, long live Minecraft! The old map that used to be on the Minecraft server is gone, and replaced with a fabulous map generated from the seed “fly”. Don’t worry, the old map isn’t completely gone. When you login there’s a link to the zip file where you can download it, and instructions on installing it too.
I just found out about a new mod for Minecraft, Kataminey Damacraft or Katamari Damacy for Minecraft. I have to be honest and admit I’ve never played that game but I have played “The Wonderful End of the World”, the same sort of game on PC. Basically you’re a little ball and have to collect as much of the world as possible.
I’m not going to install it on my Minecraft server but I will give it a go on a local world. (via)
Minecraft running on Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play. It’ll come to other Android phones and iPhones later and I have to admit this does tempt me to buy the phone.
Two things put me off, the cost which is just over 200 Euro on my current, and there’s no indication that Minecraft will be network aware. I shudder to think how fast Minecraft would run through my measly 250MB/month data limit…
Oh, while you’re here go look here for the first part of the Portal 2 soundtrack! It has ringtones too, I used the “Science is fun” one for my phone. Someone ring me, eh? 🙂

Make sure you watch this full screen for the full effect. You’ll either get dizzy or puke. (via)
For future reference:
- The Minecraft server is running Bukkit, a mod of Minecraft.
- This General plugin
- This Permissions plugin.
- A MyHome plugin.
- And of course the Spawncreature plugin too.
Occasionally these need to be updated. Some of the plugins have been abandoned by their original authors. I would like to thank those who took up the (mostly thankless) responsibility of maintaining these plugins. Doing a great job!
Gavin bought himself Minecraft and joined my server this evening. I teleported to him and he was unresponsive so I, err, dug a little hole around him. Then let in the water to welcome him to the world.
Everything was going fine until he attacked the wolves I spawned. After the finished him off they came after me but luckily I had a diamond sword to take care of them! Those red eyes. *shudder*
‘Course some would say that Minecraft is a trap itself, sucking you in and not letting you go! This one is funny though, and subscribe to the YT uploader for more!
I guess last week was a good time to go on holiday. Portal 2 was released early in the week but it didn’t come out in Europe until Friday (and retailers broke that embargo by a day or two). My copy from Amazon.co.uk should hopefully arrive today. Woohoo!
I ordered the PS3 version like a few of my gaming friends who also have gaming PCs. Unfortunately PSN has been down for the last 5 days and there’s no indication it’s coming back any time soon. This post on Joystiq (and this reddit post has more details) suggests it’s because a custom firmware allowed users to add money to their PSN wallet using fake credit cards. Odd that since they boasted that the latest firmware update was supposed to stop all firmware hacking …
Well, it also turns out that some people over at NGU found out that you could provide fake CC# info and the authenticity of the information was never checked as you were on Sony’s private developer PSN network (essentially a network that Sony trusted). What happened next was extreme piracy of PSN content. Sony realizing the issue here shut down the network.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to playing Portal 2. I know several of you have already finished the game so no spoilers please! I’ve avoided every single review of the game so far except for the glowing tweets from friends. Hopefully when PSN comes back up I can connect my Steam account to my PSN account.
While away from my consoles I’ve been digging into Half Life 2 and I think I’m near the end of the game. What a ride! Such a good game. If you haven’t got it yet, grab the Orange Box on console or login to your Steam account on PC and go buy this beautiful game!
I have to admit I’m playing it on easy setting. I just want to enjoy the experience in the small chunks of time I have available to play games.
In other news the Minecraft server has been updated with the latest version of Bukkit so the Bukkit plugins are back and working!
Update: Late this evening Sony announced that personal information, possibly including credit card details, may have been stolen. If that’s true, Sony will be in a world of hurt with the authorities for their lax security.
