"Us" in Ireland

Ray D’Arcy who presents a show on Today FM wants everyone to take photos next Saturday! The photos will be collected and printed in a book titled, “Us” with all proceeds going to charity. The book will capture a snapshot of Irish society that day.

To submit your photos, email them to us @ todayfm.com on Saturday. Photos will not be accepted before that date but I think they will accept contributions afterwards because not everyone has access to a computer at the weekend.
They’re targeting the mobile phone brigade too, and I’m sure Vodafone, O2, Meteor and 3 and ringing their hands in glee at the prospect of so much gprs data being transmitted across their expensive networks!

One issue I haven’t heard mentioned is that of model release forms. A release form is required if a photo is to be published commercially (although news items differ I think?). I emailed them about an hour ago but it was near the end of the show. Hopefully they’ll respond tomorrow.

I’ll be out taking shots on Saturday around Cork City, and perhaps elsewhere. I’d love to have a photo published! 🙂

Later… looks like they ignored my email and text about model release forms. Hope they don’t get into trouble over that.

Martial Arts Demonstration in Midleton

A few weeks ago we went down to Midleton for their Food and Drink Fair. The place was packed with people and I got lots of shots. Here are a few of the martial arts demo we passed near the end of the day:
I wish my camera recorded milliseconds. All shots below were taken at 15:49:45.. The Canon 20D rocks!

Little Feeding Bird

This morning as I made my breakfast Ray D’Arcy on Today FM announced that they were looking for photographers for their “Odd One Out” quiz. I rushed for the phone and as I was about to dial, looked out the window and saw this little bird feeding.
Should I ring, or should I take a picture? I decided on the latter, rushed upstairs for my camera and 75-300 zoom and snapped off 40 shots through the kitchen window!
Sorry Ray! Jacinta and I have been watching this little bird for the past few weeks and I was dyign to get a good shot of him! Besides the local crows, he’s the only bird who’s figured out that there are peanuts in the feeder. Hopefully the robins will notice the source of food as the weather gets colder.

Fun Lovin' Pictures

The Fun Lovin’ Criminals played last night in The Savoy in Cork. This is the second time I’ve seen them play. The last time was in the Show Grounds in Blackrock when I got down there early and into the enclosure in front of the stage. At the time I thought the performance was great but the sound quality was terrible!
Part of FLC’s attraction for me is the great lyrics. On their studio albums Huey’s voice can clearly be heard, but their live performances leave a lot to be desired. It was difficult to make out what song they were playing from time to time as the sound was so fuzzy and loud!
The concert was disappointing for me. They played several encores but I felt like leaving before they were finished. I still love their studio work but I don’t think I’ll be going to see them play live again.
Mel was there too and thinks the same about their sound quality.

Photos taken with my Panasonic FZ5, usually at 12x zoom. Sorry about the bad quality!
