Field Operative published a guide to get…

Field Operative published a guide to getting all your friends on to one team in Battlefield Bad Company 2 on Xbox 360. If you use use the private chat feature of Xbox Live you can talk to all of your team! It will take a while to get everyone on the same team because of the limitations of the game but it can be done. It must be quite amazing to play on a team of 12 who are coordinated and following one single strategy.

Unfortunately a similar chat feature doesn’t exist on the PS3 but friends can still join the session if the game has free slots.

Eddie and myself had some very good game…

Eddie and myself had some very good games of Bad Company 2 tonight, and then a couple of odd ones.

First of all, my hat goes off to dutch452. On Nelson Bay we were defending and doing a good job but suddenly there was a lack of attackers. People left the game in droves until there were about 4 defenders and one attacker, Dutch452. We traded kills a few times and to be honest it wasn’t the most exciting game. He managed to take out Alpha by flanking us and then staying in the upstairs where he killed me. (I shot him through the floor from outside when I saw where he was, but not before dying at least twice!) He then took Bravo with mortar strikes!

Myself and Eddie left the game shortly after and I sent Dutch452 a congratulatory message. Hope he won in the end but he replied that he was out of ideas!

Further oddness, in the next game we were 3 down on the other team, and eventually lost the game. A bloody UAV ran me over as I defended the base. Grrr.

To add to the oddness, the global scoreboard page showed only me in second place after the rightful first place player. I’ll have screenshots tomorrow.

Bad Company 2 Weapon Stats

Did you know that weapon statistics in Bad Company 2 change depending on platform? Me neither but this spreadsheet suggests it does.

For example, on PC the M60 does 25 points damage close up but on the consoles it does 31.3 points. It looks like all weapons are slightly more powerful on the consoles than on PC. Probably to help those of us who have to use a controller rather than a mouse and keyboard as FPSes were meant to be played with. (via)

Also check out Den Kirson’s page which is chock full of stats on just about everything in the game. I did not know this about spotting:

Spotting, like the repair tool, uses “overheat” to prevent excessive Socialize use.
The player is capable of about five Socialize button presses in rapid succession before overheating and being inoperable for five seconds.
With the cooldown, the fastest continuous rate that a player can spot without overheating is once every two seconds.

I hope Den doesn’t mind me copying the images off his page. You should really visit there for complete explanations of what each abbreviation and column mean.

Good Saturday night gaming in Bad Compan…

Good Saturday night gaming in Bad Company 2. Had a couple of great games with some brilliant squads.

Only friend playing BC2 was Geoff (and his game was full when I tried to join), but I struck gold with my squads. We pushed hard, played as a team. I did my bit reviving and healing up people and even did reasonably well shooting. Managed to level up from 3 to 5, and I’m just over 1,000 medic points from unlocking the M60.

Red dot sight helps a lot when you don’t have HD. I was spotting like a mad man too!

I may never have a KDR above 1.0 but that’s ok. It’s a kick ass team game! 🙂

Stand out moment? Spawned on dsnez behind cover, we took out a load of the defenders and I flanked Bravo and set the bomb. I died but dsnez kept the bomb site clear and the bomb blew!

So, myself, David and Conor played a few…

So, myself, David and Conor played a few hours of Bad Company 2 tonight. We’re all low ranking players but getting to know the game better as we play. One of the new Rush maps, Laguna Presa, came up time and again and on my low res screen the foliage was a b*tch to see through. On the bright side David’s mic worked, but Conor’s didn’t. I contemplated calling him and leaving the phone on speaker phone as I have loads of minutes but that probably wouldn’t have worked too well.

Later Geoff sent me an invite to play and I asked David and Conor to join me. David did join the game but I think the game filled up and Conor couldn’t. Unfortunately for us we were playing against Geoff and his highly coordinated team on a map I presume they know well as Geoff’s latest video is set there! Let me just say, I hate Laguna Presa. The one highlight for me was knifing 3 enemy soldiers as they sniped from a cliff. Their medic got me though and then I got kicked out of the game so I’m not sure if those kills still count.

We got trounced, mostly.

I went looking for Conor and found him in Arica Harbour, playing Squad Deathmatch. I wasn’t on his team, but I did end up on the winning team, helping out with heals and revives and 7 kills to reach the winning score. Pure luck I ended up with them of course.

I’m almost rank 4 now (I think) and I unlocked the red dot sight and the first of the health pack improvements.

Update: David blogged about his game and he ended up doing well:

At that point I was going to blog the disaster and go to bed – BAH! But then I thought, let’s give it another go, I’ll use the Medic class and basically just stalk one of the other players shoving medpacks in his face and reviving him whether he likes it or not.

I rock.

Some other things come to mind. I’m sure I’ll remember some more later:

  1. There’s a glitch in Laguna, in the third base I think. It’s the one with the river running through the front of the base. I was disabling the bomb when suddenly I was in command of the guided missile launcher that was several feet away. I went WTF, got killed by Geoff in his tank behind me and the bomb exploded!
  2. Squad deathmatch is populated by lots of snipers. I was being sniped by a guy hidden in some trees but thankfully I was behind walls so the bullets didn’t hurt too much and a health pack helped. I waited him out and he eventually decided to run for it when I mowed him down with my LMG. Amazingly the roof of the house I was in was home to a sniper taking aim on the town in Arica Harbour. He had his back to the ladder. so the combat knife came in handy. Unfortunately his buddy sniper got me.
  3. On the first base in Laguna, we didn’t use the heavy gun on the boat enough to soften up the base. Must do that in future.

Great Bad Company 2 rush mode assault cl…

Great Bad Company 2 rush mode assault class tutorial by TWTHEREDDRAGON. I don’t play the assault class much but many of the tips and hints apply equally to the other classes. (via Field Operative)

Sasbenjr has a great video showing off the effects of smoke in BC2. Must try the assault class and level it up!
