OMG. I played a blinder this evening. Paul and Eddie joined me in a few games of Modern Warfare 2 today. Here’s how it went:

  1. 15 0 4 Derail
  2. 15 0 7 Invasion
  3. 9 1 8 Skidrow
  4. 10 0 7 Derail
  5. 12 1 10 Sub base
  6. 10 0 10 Highrise
  7. 13 4 5 Junkyard
  8. 14 0 6 Skidrow
  9. 12 0 6 Rundown
  10. 7 4 6 Karachi
  11. 9 1 12 Favela
  12. 5 1 11 Estate
  13. 15 0 5 Karachi

Mostly played with my silent class: Silenced UMP with AA-12 (hardly ever used) and perks were Marathon Pro, Stopping Power Pro and Ninja Pro.

Even with my tactical layout I managed a few knife kills, including one of a very annoying sniper who did a lot of damage to my KDR! Now I’ve jinxed it of course so I’m not going to touch the Xbox tomorrow night. Maybe.

Unfortunately to put a downer on the evening when I took off my headphones I heard a loud buzzing from my Xbox 360. A quick search shows it could be the DVD drive but MW2 is installed to the harddisk. I may ring Microsoft tomorrow.

Update! Paul blogged about his games too. Glad he had a great time too!

Mini XBLA Games review:

Chime – it’s for charity, it’s a puzzle game where you have to create 3×3 or larger blocks from a randomly selected shape, think Tetris but the shapes are fully controllable and the shapes you create don’t disappear. I only played one game but it wasn’t altogether clear where to place blocks to full advantage. There is a good game hiding in there but even though a minimum of 60% of the purchase price goes to charity it’s probably not a game I’ll be buying. Great music though.

Polar Panic – you control a polar bear who has to shove blocks to kill the marauding trappers. Great game, cute graphics, and on easy mode it’s very accessible. Tempted to buy it as it’s fun and child friendly. One that my son enjoyed watching me play.

Unfortunately I only have 1240 points left and with the Modern Warfare 2 DLC on the 30th that may be my next purchase.

I had 10 minutes to play something earlier in the day and fired up Bad Company 2, single player for a blast. God, it’s so sedate compared to the multi player online play. I loved it!

I discovered a bug in Modern Warfare 2. It’s a harmless one thankfully.

The other night on Wasteland I shot an enemy who was about to throw a marker for a care package. Unfortunately for him the marker remained after he fell. It remained, floating in the air, right where he was when I shot him!

Anyway, the care package arrived and I stole it. Later I came back that way and saw the used marker still floating in mid air.

Didn’t play anything last night as it was a long day and I was exhausted. Hopefully this evening.

Modern Warfare 2 and Bad Company 2 were a complete fail last night. I got mowed down in MW2 by everyone else, and in BC2 I joined the game as a medic only to discover I had one squad mate who quickly disappeared and wasn’t interested in playing as a team.

Oh, and I unlocked the defibrillator and the enhanced medkit. Reviving downed team mates was useful though it’s a hard job.

Still, at least I got a positive KDR in one game when I manned the gun on a tank!

  3. Squad Deathmatch in Bad Company 2. 4 teams of 4 battle it out. The first to 50 kills wins. Haven’t tried it yet. Isn’t it odd that team deathmatch is listed at the top of the game modes in MW2 yet it’s objective games in BfBC2 that are prominent.

I’m not sure yet if I’ll buy the Modern Warfare 2 maps due on the 30th, but actually I don’t think 1200 MS points (or about €14) is excessive for 5 more maps, even if 2 are rehashed from a previous game. I never played them in their previous incarnation anyway.

I’ll wait until the reviews are in however before parting with my hard earned credits but really, put things in perspective. I’ll spend about 7 Euro on a magazine that I’ll read over the course of a week or two and then dump in the corner with the rest of them. A paperback can cost from €8 to €12 and be read in bursts over about the same time. Or even €4.90 for an occasional pint.
If my past 4 months experience of game playing are anything to go by, I’ll get a lot more use out of a map pack than any magazine or most other entertainment purchases I’ll make.

I have to admit I’m looking forward to the free DLC for Bad Company 2, even if it’s just new modes for existing maps…
