Just played Onslaught on easy mode with a “try hard”. First time I’ve used that expression but the guy was screaming at everyone to get in the chopper at each base! Needless to say I ignored him after the first base, but he did tie up one of our team who flew around and around in the vehicle!

I mean, it’s easy. The hardest bit was the enemy heli!

I just remembered. You can easily roadkill your own team in hardcore mode. I was flying as a passenger in a heli on Isla when I jumped out. Whatever way the pilot flew he managed to roadkill me in midair! First time for everything I guess!

Conquest vs Rush. That’s easy! Conquest…

Conquest vs Rush. That’s easy! Conquest. Too many C4ing idiots in rush right now.

That’s why I was playing Conquest last night with Mike, Darran and Conor. We had some great games. Laguna Presa was especially enjoyable but I did notice that enemy players were using shotguns more and more so who was I to not take a hint?

Conquest has lots of close quarters fighting. So many encounters take place in buildings, around flags, and in choke points between flags that you need something with stopping power up close. A shotgun is perfect for that. I loaded up with the Saiga, extra shells and lightweight and had a pile of fun. My score wasn’t amazing or anything but I did take out two tanks with c4 earning me 300+ points each time. Unfortunately killing myself each time too. The first time because a sniper laid a mortar strike on the vehicle before I could get away. Grrr.

I also played Panama Canal for the first second time and that was a blast. The first time I played Bad Company 2 was in Conquest on this level and I hated it! I had no idea what was going on, there was so much cover I was being blasted to smithereens whichever way I moved and none of my team used a mic and were no help. My second game was a lot more enjoyable! 🙂

We got best squad in most of the games, I got a positive KDR in a few and once, just once, got the highest score in my squad, beaten to the top spot on our team by only 200 points or so.

I had a very quick game of Onslaught on hardcore difficulty this afternoon and boy is it impossible without a good team. Played on Isla and we got nowhere!

Cool, there’s a neat stats graph on the bfbcs.com history page now! Look at my skill level bounce up and down!

Mayhem in Onslaught Land

I had what I hoped would be a quick game of Bad Company 2 Onslaught this morning. It was hardcore, on Isla, and turned into a 28 minute bloodbath! I joined a great squad who pushed hard and we did well until the very last base. Our resident sniper was invaluable. Despite there being 2 engineers on the team he shot the pilot out of the enemy helicopter! I got a kill assist for my RPG hit however.

The sniper was well placed too as the rest of us had our asses handed to us on many an occasion. He was the sole survivor until after our 4th or 5th assault on the last base when we were all killed. Pity really as we were doing quite well. Earlier I changed to medic and with another player camped on the flag behind the stone barriers taking points off the flag. We even took down the enemy one and our flag was half raised when we were flanked and both of us taken down! ARGH!

On hardcore the enemy AI is much better at flanking, although they flank the same way each time so it’s only a matter of learning the patterns. A medic or two always flanked around by where Alpha would be, one medic was almost always sitting in the dirt by the front-middle of the base. Watch out for him.

That last base probably needs a two pronged attack, from left and right with the guys on the left capping the flag while the guys on the right push up and stop the enemy flanking.
Oh yeah, on hardcore you need at least one medic and he should run with at least one of the medic pack enhancements. I used both and they helped a lot. The iron sight on the 249 is good enough that I’ll sacrifice the RDS.

A few days ago Mike and I jumped into a game on easy to practice our flying skills. The heli got knocked out eventually but we had it up in the air for a good 15 minutes! Got a good number of kills as the gunner with Mike easing the vehicle around and around the base.

PS. Hands up who knows where I got the title of this post? It’s C64 related so if you’re a young fella you probably won’t have a clue!

Phoar! Bad Company 2 Onslaught on hardco…

Phoar! Bad Company 2 Onslaught on hardcore is a nice challenge! No health meter, no ammo count, no map. Tough. I like!

In other news I tried Gears of War 2 again after a lengthy absence. It’s just not the same. I tried horde and a few other multiplayer modes but it told me I was missing necessary map packs! Argh! That sucks.

Well, we played Conquest tonight and had a blast, despite playing on some crummy teams. Still, we won a few games too and I even came out of one game with 14 kills for 4 deaths. Got a gold star for the hand grenade and my 9th gold star for the AN-94.
I reduced the sensitivity of the PS3 controller slightly, to about 75% and I’m doing alright, even with that burst weapon.

Thanks Mike, Rossy and David for the great games!

Had quite a bit of fun in Bad Company 2 …

Had quite a bit of fun in Bad Company 2 Onslaught tonight. Played easy difficulty with strangers. Some games were great, some downright terrible. Had loads of fun in the heli on Atacama Desert and even kept the bird flying for quite some time!

I almost always came out with the highest number of kills simply because my squad didn’t always know how to play Onslaught. They didn’t push hard enough, taking cover metres away from the flag instead of camping on it. Other times they downright ignored my calls for help.

TexasGhost who was afk for the game below flew in the heli with me as a gunner in one game and had his mic on and proved to be good company flying over the enemy.

Guess who was playing as recon on Nelson Bay? His one saving grace was as a (rear) spawn point when b-man and myself got taken out at the same time.

Beat a few of my best times tonight too. Good fun!

If you’re sick and tired of Bad Company…

If you’re sick and tired of Bad Company 2 rush, give squad death match a go. I joined David and Mike in a game of Onslaught last night on Atacama Desert and I swear, the game is getting harder, even on easy level.

When Onslaught came out Mike and I completed that level with just the two of us but the forces amassed against us last night were definitely harder than they were before. Still, it was a nice challenge, especially after the continued disappointment that is rush these days.

Conor joined us too and after 2 games of that we went to squad deathmatch but Conor had to leave. We did quite well! We didn’t win every game but it was such a relief not having to worry about C4 ***holes blowing up our MCOM stations. Sully joined us for the last game (or two?) and on Arica Harbour we ripped the opposition apart. They certainly weren’t the best players ever. I was killed by a medic out in the open and spawned nearby to see him go into a house. I got a hit marker on him and I was sure he saw me as he backed up the stairs so I threw a grenade up the stairs and then a smoke grenade for cover. Did he shoot me down? He was out on the balcony enjoying the sun! Awareness fail!

Something similar happened right at the end too. A sniper on the hill by the pylons took me out when my knife drew blood but failed to kill him. After spawning I returned to the very same spot and there he was! Unfortunately the game ended in a win for us before I got a chance to retaliate. Got a nice 14/3 KDR in that game! Hopping into the tank helped as well of course.

I also booted up the Xbox and had a game with Peace, a guy I met on hupitgaming. Unfortunately my mic seems to be broken on the Xbox which is annoying. It uses a different connection than the PS3. We were playing rush on Nelson Bay and unfortunately lost defending and attacking. 🙁

On PS3, my KDR increased to 0.83, skill level jumped up 240 points. I made it to level 28 too!

Mayhem, destruction and death. That’s a…

Mayhem, destruction and death. That’s all I can think of when I watched this Bad Company 2 montage Mike shared with me.

I had a few games last night and sucked hugely. Teams we came up against were hard as nails and we got destroyed in several games. My skill level dropped like a stone by 227 points, although my KDR has remained at 0.82.

I hate Atacama Desert. I thought I hated Nelson Bay but nooooo, compared to that level Atacama Desert is hell on Earth. Probably an apt description for the real Desert too!

There’s only one thing worse than the e…

There’s only one thing worse than the enemy using C4 on your crates, and that’s your team using it. I had a few games with gulwing tonight (he found me through hupitgaming today, thanks Geoff!) and both sides for many games were blowing up the MCOM stations.
When our own team used this technique a few players had scores that were multiples of the rest of us. Two players had a score of 4000+ vs around 900 for the rest. Argh!

Thankfully they left and we had some decent games as we were the stronger team. It was weird. We were asking each other, “Is this the same team we’re playing?”

I planted and blew at least 3, maybe 4 crates and defused more. On Laguna Presa we defended and stopped the enemy on the first base while we beat them all the way back to the end and destroyed each crate when attacking. The flanking routes in that map helped immensely. In a recent video Cards attacked the first Alpha by flanking right behind some blue fencing. The same technique worked wonders for us too!
The hillside flank on the last base puts you in a very strong position too and I got quite a number of kills there. Got knifed eventually unfortunately but gulwing avenged me with possibly the last kill of the game.

For the most part I was running with the XM8 Prototype and smoke. The smoke is invaluable after planting the crate!

KDR was mixed. In the first few games I did badly but I got 2+ and 3+ in the last game or two. Global KDR is still 0.82 and win/loss is 1.55. I got the “Rush good conduct” pin for destroying 100 M-COM stations too. Nice 5,000 points!

Oh, these were my first games of Bad Company 2 rush where I played with maximum sensitivity. It was too high for me to be accurate with the AN-94 but I did fairly well burst firing the XM8P and XM8C.

Edit: Here’s that video Cards7 posted showing the flank on base 1 of Laguna Presa.

Gulwing followed me on a second boat and I warned him not to shoot anyone until we got to Alpha, if at all possible. We got there safely, armed the crate and blew it. Smoke slowed defenders down and with Gulwing’s help we held them off.
