BFBC2 – Taking out choppers montage

Geoff received quite a rude message from someone so he compiled the following montage of helicopter kills. I just love the soundtrack! More Amiga music please!

David was playing during the first montage, nice to see his gamertag on Geoff’s squad!

Let’s hope Geoff never thinks like these guys! šŸ˜‰

Wow, that’s all I can say about tonight…

Wow, that’s all I can say about tonight’s games, and smoke grenades FTW, I think.

While I waited for the others I hopped into a game with strangers. They were useless! The totally ignored the bases, nobody had a mic on and everyone ran around like headless chickens! I actually had to mute my mic I wanted to scream so much at them!

I was playing first with Mark, David and Conor but unfortunately Conor had problems with his PS3 or at least he disconnected a few times. Must talk to him about that. Mark’s friend Gary got into the squad then. We left a game in which we were getting overrun at every turn, but we still managed to be “the best squad” twice maybe? The rest of our team sucked big time.

Then on to Squad Death Match. We did okish. There were some good moments but we went back to Rush and had a blast.

I concentrated on my assault class. I unlocked the second assault rifle and the smoke grenade eventually and went to town on it. I think it helped!
When defending, the attackers had to be right on top of us to see us, and the smoke provided cover when defusing bombs. When attacking it provided a corridor for us to run through to the bomb and blow it up. While waiting for a bomb to blow a few smoke grenades tossed on the ground made it very difficult for the opposition to figure out where we waited for them. Oh yes, smoking kills! Especially when you hit someone in the chest with a smoke grenade.

We combined smoke and spotting in the second base in Valparaiso. I laid down smoke over the village while Mark spotted from the back and then on the lighthouse. I swear, all those bobbing orange triangles were like Christmas lights on a foggy evening! šŸ™‚

When on smoke grenade duty you probably won’t get many kills. You’re too busy reloading and laying down cover for your team. It was worth it. Did we lose any game after we got into our stride? The night’s a blur. My stats haven’t updated yet. It probably will have by the time you read this. I got to level 7 8 tonight!

PS. check out David’s post on the night’s gameplay!

Bad Company 2 gets auto balanced some more

It’s like walking a tightrope. Lean one way or another and you’ll get hammered when you fall.

EA are deploying their R9 servers and among the fixes is the following:

Autobalance improved, it shuffles people both during and between rounds now, and does a better job.

I hope so. Some of the games last night were so lopsided that rounds were over in minutes. I suspect there might have been one other squad working together, and David and myself in our small mini squad may have been bumped to the other side to shore up a losing team. Unfortunately we were overrun a in our last game I think and we noticed our team was 2 men down.

The best games are those that go on and on, and you have to fight and hold your positions with a team that’s doing it’s job. Again and again I saw team mates run past a detonating bomb without a care for disarming it. So frustrating.

Welcome Reddit Fans!

beckham was kind enough to submit one of my posts to reddit.com yesterday resulting in a nice little spike of traffic to my Crazy shotgun, knife and explosive BC2 Montage post.

It’s not quite the digg effect but a nice bump for a blog of this size. Thank you, and hope you enjoyed the video!

Yes, this video is pretty amazing too, thanks for the link!

Battlefield: Bad Company 2: SAM5000’s UMP Rush Gameplay On Isla Inocentes

SAM5000i shows off a very quick rush on Isla Inocentes, and shares some useful tips about kits and specializations to use. I haven’t unlocked the body armour yet but I have some of the others. I must pay closer attention to them as I usually just leave it at whatever I had on in the previous game.

PS3 text chat to communicate with your team in Bad Company2

OK, so the Xbox has a handy private voice chat feature. You can use that feature to communicate with your entire team in Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the Xbox.

The PS3 has a voice/video chat feature but it doesn’t work when you’re in a game. It does have a private text chat feature however. If you’re playing with friends on your team, and they’re not on the same squad, invite them all to a private text chat session. If you have something to say hit the Playstation button on your controller and type. When someone writes something that text will appear as a notification in the corner of your screen. This will also work if your friends are on the opposite team and might make getting them all on your team that little bit easier.

Needless to say, you need a keyboard to do this effectively.

Thank you Geoff for the inspiration for this post.

Update! Geoff pointed out Ventrilo Server. It’s surround sound VOIP software. You could use it on a dedicated server (I have two) and have all your team connect their clients to it but they’d need to have PCs running Windows or Linux or a Mac next to their gaming rig.

Come to think of it, you could use Skype and set up a conference call. Might be problematic hearing other voices if you’ve got gaming headphones on though.

After a few successful games of Bad Comp…

After a few successful games of Bad Company 2 last night my KDR has increased to 0.53 it would be higher but I tried leveling up the assault class too, with disastrous results!

I joined a game of SDM with David earlier in the evening. It was my favourite map, Laguna Presa, and I only popped in to see if I could get on to David’s squad. I couldn’t, and I died several times, once at David’s hands!

Thanks Geoff for the invite into the game. I didn’t contribute much and then got kicked by the network as my DSL had a hissy fit. Maybe next time.

After seeing a clip yesterday where a team used smoke grenades to attack and successfully destroy a base I decided I needed to work on the assault class. Unfortunately it was the last game of the evening for me and as mentioned previously, I didn’t do too well.

Highlight of the evening: Attacking on Isla, riding a jetski to the island and taking Bravo within a few minutes of the game starting. We had 69 tickets left after taking that one!
