Geoff joins Machinima and starts off with a great video showing an offense on Laguna Presa in Bad Company 2.
Congrats on the new “job”, and thanks to David for the heads up.
The top Bad Company 2 players in Ireland list might include me if they accepted new PS3 and Xbox 360, although probably not because it wouldn’t surprise me if more people play it on console than PC. (via)
A quiet night tonight. Exhausted after a hectic day so I fired up Bad Company 2 on the Xbox and played an hour or so of the single player game. It’s like a walk in the park after the multiplayer online game. Everyone should play through it at least once. I discovered that the main gun on heavy tanks can zoom in tonight, and played the UAV bit of the game too. Hellfire missiles are nice!
I found a bug – one of the gun emplacements you must destroy from the UAV remained when the building it was on mysteriously collapsed. I flew the UAV down low and there it was just hovering in the air! I had to kill the UAV and restart this short mission to complete it.
Oh, check out these Bad Company 2 charts. While you’re at it, subscribe to the Bad Company 2 section on reddit.com. Lots of stuff posted there every day and loads of good bits too. If Modern Warfare 2 still floats your boat, there’s a section on that too!
Picked this up from that charts thread. I always wondered how they calculate the “skill level” in Bad Company 2. Well, it’s very simple:
Skill level is an ELO tracking of your K/D. Nothing more.
What is ELO? According to Wikipedia:
The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in two-player games such as chess and Go.
So your skill level probably goes up if you kill higher ranked players, or players with a higher skill level.
And in tonight’s games with David I leveled up somehow to 10 but my KDR took a beating. We fought really strong teams in several rounds of rush and unfortunately mostly lost.
Off we went to squad deathmatch where we were joined by MrDippy and CavScout34. I was unfortunately more a liability than anything else although my second last game had a positive KDR (8/7) and in the last game on Isla I spotted a lot and practised setting up a tent on the slopes surrounding the town. I offered to make tea and David wanted marshmallows but I was rudely interrupted by two enemy flanking my position. Very inconsiderate.
I can’t wait until I get that component cable. Please arrive on Monday! Standard definition really sucks.
Oh yes, I almost forgot. I got my first Ken Burton friend request on PSN. I’ve already received 3 such requests on Xbox Live, but this was the first one. How do they possibly think I’m that nice fella Ken?
Just updated my Ken Burton post with this image of the friend request on PSN:
Update read David’s account of the gameplay too!
Someone kills you in Battlefield Bad Company 2 and you’re itching for revenge. How did you do it? Here’s some funny paybacks by Reddit users. Favourites of mine include the following:
Wookie in the lighthouse sniped me so I got on the UAV, flew it in the hole in the top and down through the lighthouse innards to roadkill him.
…
Parachuting out of a blackhawk on valpo directly onto the sniper who killed me, doing a little dance on top of him and then stabbing down though his skull.
…
I went to their house and took all their stuff.
Sometimes I should just hit cancel…
…
I got sniped by a defender on Port Valdez who was in the attic of one of the houses in our spawn. I came back as an assault with expanded c4 and took the building down with him inside it. He cussed me out afterward, so I know I did a good job.
Got destroyed in Bad Company 2 this evening. Really wiped out.
Even though I unlocked the tracer gun I couldn’t equip it as a medic. Not that it made any difference, we were fighting on Nelson Bay. It’s not the easiest map in the world to play in standard def.
To do something constructive I escalated my PayPal dispute with divineo.co.uk to a claim and filled in as much detail as possible.
Going be past experience, I’ll be surprised if they respond before the 10 day deadline.
Update! PayPal granted me a refund on my dispute with divineo! Got my fingers crossed the component switcher cable from Amazon arrives today but it’ll probably be next week.
Update 2! I finally received the following message from Divineo, after my payment was refunded by PayPal (not Divineo):
I`m sorry at the moment we do not have this item in stock. Please check as you should have received a refund. Best regards and apologies for the inconvenience. Divineo

Couple of great games of Bad Company 2 with Eddie on the Xbox after work. I totally lost track of time!
I played recon with my trusty M1 for quite a while, and love that gun. Love the sound of it at least, even if it’s not the best gun in the game. I eventually unlocked the motion mines, and while defending they lit up the enemy nicely. I did try the M24 but, meh, I sucked at it. I got picked off by a sniper just after I respawned so I didn’t bother with it after that.
We lost mostly, but won at least one game. Mostly it was fairly evenly matched. It was tough but very enjoyable. We had a full squad with 2 strangers. Even though they didn’t use the mic at least they listened to me shouting at them. I think.
So, I leveled to rank 11. I unlocked the motion mine, the Type 88 sniper rifle, and one or two perks and got some achievement or other I think. KDR suffered but had great games.
David produced a montage of great clips from Geoff’s Youtube channel and played the old Cannon Fodder theme tune in the background. I can’t believe this hasn’t been done before but maybe the average Youtuber is too young to remember this classic Amiga game!
Geoff himself used the same tune in this Squad Rush video as he and his team annihilated the opposition. Cannon fodder indeed!
Montage clips are from Modern Warfare 2 and Bad Company 2 of course. If you’re curious, here’s the Cannon Fodder intro and here’s some gameplay from the game. Great game, but I always preferred Syndicate.
