Garret took a photo in near dark at ISO 1600 using his Canon 20D and didn’t see any banding and very little noise. Picture came out great! Me wants, me wants, me wants!
My Meteor – why don't you work in Firefox?
There’s only 3 mobile phone companies in Ireland, Vodafone, O2 and Meteor. I’ve been a customer of each and am currently with Meteor. That might change however as their newly redesigned meteor.ie website doesn’t work properly in Firefox. They offer 300 free texts from their site but when one hits the “SEND” button nothing happens.
If you’re a Meteor user mail info@meteor.ie with your phone number and your PIN, or 3 phone numbers you’ve rung in the past month (for verification).
Ask them politely to fix their website so it works in Mozilla Firefox! The Javascript error I get is,
Error: window.smsForm has no properties
Source File: https://www.mymeteor.ie/mymeteor/phone_book/send_sms.cfm
Line: 295
Oh, and last time I checked, Vodafone’s website offers 300 texts a month and it did work in Firefox.
Later – Niall suggested entering your text message, phone number, and instead of hitting “SEND” copy and paste the following code into the URL address bar and press return: javascript:window.document.smsForm.submit();
Now how hard is that for Meteor to fix?
Before and After the 2004 Tsunami
This is an awful image! Look at the destruction!

Lots of Stories..
Sheesh! I take a few days off and the rest of the world comes up with great articles and content that I just have to read! No consideration eh? 🙂
- Top Digital Camera Newbie Mistakes to Avoid
- Cold Weather Photo Survival Guide – the worst that happened to me is coming into a warm pub – the UV filter on my camera clouded over. Easily fixed.
- Digital camera users still turn to pros for prints – I’ll more than likely always get my photos printed by a shop or online store. Last night while shopping in Tesco I noticed a photo kiosk by the main door. Prints were priced at EUR0.50 each. That’s not a great price, but as an impulse buy it might tempt me to part with some cash.
- I have a number of photos on shutterstock, and even made a few sales! The US$75 minimum payout is troubling and blueneedle has more on this. Might move elsewhere if I can earn a few dollars a month!
- halftone effect – nice
- Urban Perspectives – nice shot, I’ll be in Chicago in May!

Lazio's Workflow
This is a nice effect although some of the controls are different or missing in the GIMP. I don’t think there’s a key-combo to “select bright areas” of a photo in the GIMP is there? I’ll post an example later if I have time!
Include monitors in the frame
In this article Mark describes how to photograph monitors and tv screens. It’s a lot more involved than I imagined but the slow shutter speed isn’t a surprise, this is:
As a side note, dogs see at about 1/125th. To them, the TV is nothing but annoying colored lines unless they have slower cognitive response.
WordPress is Arstechnica "Web application of the year"
WordPress won an award!
WordPress is the most prominent rising star of weblog software, completely free and with a large and active community.
Several other notable categories, including the infamous “Thumbs Down” award going to ATI for their dreadful Linux driver support. #debian gets an honourable mention in this category too. Looks like it’s not the place to go to for Linux solutions! Try the ILUG instead!
Parish Church, Sneem Co. Kerry
This is the Parish Church in the village of Sneem. Outside were several pyramids built by James Scanlon in 1987. Nearby is a statue of Isis and a plague underneath saying:
A GIFT FROM THE PEOPLE OF EGYPT
“ISIS”
TO THE PEOPLE OF IRELAND

Sunset Over Sneem, Co. Kerry
Where were you today? I spent the day in Sneem, Co. Kerry and took several photos of this picturesque village and surrounding area. Very cold today but worth the visit just to get out and away from the world for a short while!
