I came across the site PhotoJournalism by Mark Hancock several days ago and this afternoon read a few of his posts. He offers some great advice and writes well on the subject of photography, here’s a few of his recent works:

Trees All Lit Up!
Here’s a more “traditional” picture of the two trees I published yesterday. Some working with the GIMP involved to bring out the sky, but otherwise, a reasonable approximation of a cold night!
Squiggly Trees
What does one do on a freezing cold night? Go out with a tripod and take photos of trees!
I took this photo a week ago during a cold snap in the weather. I assembled my tripod on the corner of the street near my home and set it up for a 20 second exposure. Half way through the shot a man, his son and their dog passed. I *knew* something was going to happen and I was right. The dog’s lead got caught in the legs of the tripod but I had a good grip of it so the camera didn’t go flying out onto the road!
There was some movement and those squiggles across the picture are the result. I like it! 🙂
Damien Mulley on the radio
Just heard Damien Mulley talk on Today FM for Ireland Offline.. good on ya!
Mortal Szombat – Mortal Kombat Parody
OpenMortal – looks more like the roto-scoped beat-em-up of the early nineties than Mortal Kombat. For the life of me I can’t remember the name of it!
Check out the mad screenshots on the site too, looks like fun!
59th College Photographer of the Year
First time I came across this competition. Here are the winning images of the 59th College Photographer of the Year! Good stuff all round!
AnandTech Guide to Better Photos: Composition
As seen elsewhere, AnandTech have started a series of photography tutorials on their site. The first one looks good!
Kittens!
If you like cats go look at these kitten photos. If you hate ’em, stay well clear!
198 photos of very cute kittens here! Unfortunately not thumbnailed, so be prepared for a long wait while they download!

Billy Burke, RIP
Last April I posted the news that a 29 year old Kerryman, Billy Burke, was awaiting a lung transplant. He was on a waiting list for over three and a half years.
Unfortunately, he died this morning without having the operation. Tragic as his death is, it’s not as simple as that – he was refused care in a UK hospital that has exclusive access to all donated organs from Ireland, but despite this, a hospital in Manchester took him on.
His website, savebilly.org was updated this morning with the news of his passing.
Mr Burke’s condition deteriorated in recent weeks. He died this morning at the Mater Hospital in Dublin.
