It’s that time of the year again! I’m just back from the parade in Cork and I have to say, it was much better than last year’s one! I took a “few” photographs, but it’ll take me a few hours to pick out the best ones to post here!

Digital Workflow Guide
This is a short concise example of digital workflow. There’s some handy before and after shots, and some of his ideas are new to me, especially the order in which images are manipulated. Worth a read, but you might be confused if you’re new to all this stuff! Some of his PS actions look interesting too. I wonder how can I translate them to the GIMP world?
Post-processing: one-third of the job
It’s true. Taking a photograph is only one part of the final image. The rest is what you do afterwards, whether that’s in the dark room or on your computer. Andy Williams posted a couple of his photos, including the before and after shots. It’s amazing the difference that a few minutes in the GIMP will do to a photo! Then, you have to ask yourself, how much is too much?
Noise, Grain, Artifact Reduction – get rid of the scratches!
PhotographyBLOG links to a few interesting articles on photographic noise and defect reduction tools. Wow, the last link is a very lengthy article comparing different products! Unfortunately, only one application has a chance of running natively in Linux, it’s a Java app. The other apps might work in Wine. YMMV!
Pics of the Day

- On Maligne Lake – I want to go on holiday soon!
- Water Flower – great abstract photo!
At least 173 killed in Madrid train bombings
30, 40, 173… the death toll rises. I heard this on the morning news as I got ready to leave for work. I texted Cachu in Madrid and she and her friends are fine, but they were watching it on tv. She couldn’t describe the horror of it.
Last November, I visited one of the train stations in Madrid with Cachu so I’m wondering now if that was one of the stations attacked.
The BBC has more coverage as does elpais if you speak Spanish.
Later.. More people have died. What a day. Yahoo has more, and photos.
Later Still.. I rang Cachu. She and her immediate friends are fine, thank God, but they’re all very upset and distressed. College was canceled early as parents were ringing all the time asking about their children. Some didn’t show up today. She told me that we met Carlos in one of the train stations that had been targeted. The train was late this morning and the bomb went off outside the station, but I remember the place well and I’ll post some photos of the indoor garden there later tonight.

New to digital photography?
Smile Please! Don't drool over all those cameras!
Is a photo a real record of what happened if the subject is payed or manipulated? Does it really matter? By the act of being “there”, a photographer has changed the outcome of a situation anyway. Mike Johnston looks at this and covers it in more detail. Read the article if you’re tempted to comment here. It’ll make you think!
And then of course, this report from the PMA this year will make you drool over all the new cameras available! (Plenty more on Digital Journalist!)
Digital Photography is no longer special. It now is photography.

Street Performers
These 2 street performers were out on Patrick’s Street yesterday and attracted a large crowd for their act. I was shopping with Owen and Michelle and stopped for a look..

It's A Foggy Morning

I changed my mind about publishing these pics, they’re not good enough IMO, but look at them if you want!
