Some Thoughts:
- When you have a tooth ache everything else takes second place.
- Oh, and the tooth ache always happens on a bank holiday weekend, to ensure maximum pain, and remind you to go to the bloody dentist more often!
- Vodka, rubbed onto the infected gum/teeth is a god-send for pain relief. It lasts almost 3 hours and it’ll let you get some measure of rest at night.
- Have an understanding partner who’ll take care of you and fuss over you.
- Brush, floss and see your dentist more often.
- Brush, floss and see your dentist more often.
- Brush, floss and see your dentist more often.
- Brush, floss and see your dentist more often.
I’ll probably have to get a root-canal next week, the tooth is dead so hopefully it won’t be too sore. (I’m not too hopeful though..)

Hi again well i had the worst weekend of my life the right side of my face swelled out like Frankenstien i could only half open my eye i couldnt close my mouth because every one of my teeth were in agony my so called pain pills were about as much use as a chocolate fire guard!!!
Then it finally came Tuseday 2.30.pm my dentist appointment i was pooping my pants because i knew what was coming he tried to numb my mouth with a needle but the abscess was just to big the novicaine didnt work so he got what looked like a tampon it wasnt soaked it in some medicated solution it numbed my upper lip a little then sprayed some more of this medical solution into my mouth told me to close my eyes while the dental nurse put the droll suction thing in my mouth and he stabbed the abscess OH MY GOD i have never felt pain like that in my life it was torture i gave out a scream that would make your blood run cold.
Then the bright green puss came pouring out it was gross there was loads of it he pushed under my eye forcing it down draining it all out
He gave me antibiotics stong stuff i had to take a double dose as my first loading pills i take one three times a day i hurt like hell all night
When i woke up this morning the swelling had gone down in my face thank god it still hurts but its bearable there is still a little puss coming out but i am so happy i dont look like the bride of Frankenstein anymore.
Hi, all. Just an update (go back several pages for the story!).
I’m all fine now. I have the tooth removed and it took a month of antibiotics to resolve the issue.
If you’re interested in seeing just how bad it can get then just cut’n’paste the urls to see:

The red colouration in the last photo is actually the infection – it shows how far it had got.
I’ve been in pain for about 2 days now, the first day was just a minor pain, but then day. The pain has increased by 110%.
The right upper side of my jar is hurting so bad, This is the worse constant pain i have came across of the 19 years of my life. Constant, sharp, stabbing, electic shock wave type pain. I can not put up with it..
Here is what i have tryed, Warm salt water, which brings the pain down for a very shot time, Mouth wash, this works , stops the pain for about 5-10 mins max !!
i carry a bottle of mouth wash and salt to work its that bad..
i have 4 weeks till i can see a clinc, i have ran out of options
the only thing now is to resort is extra strong pain & sleep pills.. Thats all i can think off.. The pain killers i got now anit very good…
“”I just want to rip my tooth out and throw away the PAIN “”” i wish it was the easy.
Oh well.. Back to swirlling mouth wash and warm salt water untill my 3 weeks of constant torture …
I had a near root canal incident a few months back…tried to save the tooth with a filling. No. Just no dammit. My tooth throbs then jaw aches then ear hurts. Oragel does nothing. Ice does nothing. Vodka ain’t helping. The only thing that works right at this moment, is cold milk held in my mouth as long as possible. Oh sweet god the relief is like a flash cool rain on a dying man in the desert. Screw you DR. Morales!! That bastard better fix it hurts worse than having your finger chopped off. And yes I am familiar with that feeling personally.
what a relief to find this site. i’ve got 6 more nights to endure before my root canal. after 3 days of antiobiotics, no change; no drugs working, neither alieve, tylenol, ibuprofen, nor percoset or vicodan. i’ve never felt anything like this is my life; worse than childbirth? it sure as hell is up there. thanks for all the tips; i’ve already swished some pure vanilla i got in mexico and sent my husband out for cloves. just having some hope helps with the coping.
i heard to use an onion.the milk of the onion kills bacteria, once a day for 3 minutes , chew on the infected area . i have have been trying it and seems to take the edge off.
Its Sunday 2am and im in such a pain that would make a gunshot suicide look small!!!!!
Im a normal 21 year old guy living in london… i have always had problems with my teeths, since i was a little kid, most of my teeths are with feeling and stuff…anyways…
My wisdom tooth started to come out on my bottom left side of the mouth, that was really painfull and glad it stoped…now, my right bottom part is coming out too but i havent felt much since I have discovered that i have a tooth infected with “Abscess” (sp?) It hurts so much and i cant even eat, drink or just do anything because of the pain! as said before, its 2am and the pain in horrible….its like some bastard is putting electricity to the root of the tooth and twisting it at the same time. I have taken about 20 pain killers today and im worried that i might overdose but even that would be much better than dealing with this pain!
its a shame that there isnt dentists on a sunday! DAMN IT HURTS!!!!!
Just discovered this site…there is some measure of comfort in knowing you are not alone. 🙁 Been dealing with severe and at times mind-numbing pain for a few weeks. On antibiotics and painkillers for 4 days, little sign of change so far. My case is a bottom tooth near the front that broke and had a root canal a year ago…pain came back with a vengeance 3 weeks ago exactly…could not get in to the clinic, sliding scale rates, until I broke down on the phone with them 4 days ago. Just sobbing in pain. They miraculously found time for me the same day.
An endodontist has to fix me this time, as root canals are more complex the second time around. He hopes the meds will have gotten the abscess under control in a week so he can do the thing. In the meantime, I am nearly mentally broken from the pain, it is soooo severe at times. I know you all understand, or you would not be up at night, searching for others who can understand and advise.
For me, sometimes cold packs help…the pain shoots down my chin, to my jaw and neck, even the tongue and ear hurt at times. It is worse than childbirth for me, or just as bad.
Sending energy to everyone still suffering. We will get thru this. We have to keep the faith.
I was searching for ‘allergy antibiotic’ at google and got this your post (‘che at Holy Shmoly!’) in search results. Not very relevant result, but still interesting to read 🙂
I’ve been doping up on motrin and exceddrin all day and it stiill hasnt hellped my toothache. i bought some orajel and anbelsol and it hasnt seem to help me in either which way. the pain is almost unbareable. i cant eat, i cant sleep, i have a pain through out my neck and entire jaw. it hurts. over the counterstuff dont work and i cant get into my dentist untill tuesday. im in diying pain, i havent been able to eat a whole meal in two days. i’ve been sollowing so much anbesol and orajel and kanka im sick to my stomach. im such a sissy, but it hurts soo bad.
would i be a fool to go to the ER?
the pains reaching into my ear and my neck.
i havent slept good in days.

Yesterday I had a tooth removed, I was in wicked pain and it had to go.
Today, I don’t feel bad at all really! Just a lil pain and I’ve not taken any pain pills or anything, I even got the prescribed Vicodin but I don’t feel the need for it.
Maybe I’m lucky?
Or I’m thinking the pain was so bad PRIOR to having it pulled that a few stitches and pain pales in comparison.
22 hrs since surgery,
Chad
As I read through the pages and pages of those who have experienced this hell before me I wonder…Did they survive? I’m hoping everyone feels better and has just not written back with encouragement and well wishes for those of us who are suffering. Maybe in a week or two I will forget you all as well. For now though I’m suffering something far worse than any pain I’ve experience. (Even a non-drug labor that lasted for days)
My pain came on suddenly and ferociously. I was at the dentist in 24 hours from onset. He said it’s an abscess from tooth trauma. He said the tooth trauma could have happened up to 10 years ago. (can’t remember any tooth trauma, but ok) He refers me to an Endodontist to do a root canal…but first I must take antibiotics so the infection can be under control. This is Thursday…my appointment with the Endodontist is Monday. After many, many tears and a sleepless night Thursday I called the Endodontist on Friday and cried and begged for him to see me. He did. He drilled and cleaned and packed the tooth..but alas he could do nothing for the abscess which is on the outside of the root in my jaw. And of course that is what is causing the pain. “Wait for the antibiotic to do it’s thing” he tells me…until then there is nothing we can do. So I faithfully take my antibiotic every 4 hours…plus 800 mg of ibuprofen.. plus some Lortabs when I feel like death would be a relief. It is now Sunday evening and my face is still swollen and the pain is still there. This coming Friday I am scheduled for the full root canal. I would think the antibiotic would have attacked this abscess by now??? Does anyone have any idea how long it takes for an antibiotic to do something?? I’m on 300mg of Clindamycin which is a generic for Cleocin.
My right check and 1 back tooth is hurting insanely bad now. I have had this pain on off for about 2 months now, I went to my local GP and got a prescription called “Clamoxyl – Duo Forte 875/125 i also bought 4 packs of Nurofen plus+
Here is something that might help you pain suffers out.
My day routine is:
1. Wake up, take 2 – 4 nurofen plus+ (Pain re leave tablets) brush my teeth and gum very gently, room temperature salt water and swirl that in my mouth 3 times or more, and to top it off swirl a shot of vodka, Then brush teeth once again. It seems to stop the pain for a short period of time.
My right check is now swallan, it looks like a lump on my check. Caused from a hole in one of my tooth which has caused me an infection. It sucks i so much wish i took better care for my teeth when i was a young chap.
thank GOD I found this page….I thought i was the only one in so much pain!! my pain is on my upper right hand side,a piece of my tooth chipped off and then it turned into and cavatie i do believe(there’s some kinda hole there or somthing). whenever i go to eat i try to eat all of my food on the other side of my mouth but it always makes it to the right side…and thats when the pain starts.I instantly have to get up and take an 800mil. gram IB gently brush that certain area, gargle with mouth wash andd then use orajel…pain most times goes right away…but when i eat again here it comes(well really that all depends on what i eat too) to bad i cant live off of yogurt and applesauce! the pain gets so bad i am sometimes unable to talk to my 3 year old daughter and that sucks…pain runs from the bad tooth to the top of my head and sometimes in my neck. I have a dentist appointment coming up real soon and all this will be over so i can eat and talk like a normal human being!!! I send my best wishes out to all of my fellow pain sufferers…nothing last forever!! goodluck!
Well, I’m still alive! I came back to report that it took the antibiotic 6 days before finally having some effect!!! Six days! Once the antibiotic started to take effect the pain and swelling became less and less. After 9 days on the antibiotic they gave me my root canal. That stirred things up a little bit, but within 24 hours it was feeling better again. It has been 15 days now. They gave me another round of antibiotics after the root canal “just to be safe”. Most of the pain and swelling is gone, but I do have a tiny bit of swelling left. I have numbness in the 4 teeth next to the tooth that caused the abscess. The dentists said it could take months for things to settle down in my jaw. I can honestly say this whole thing was the worst painfully experience! My best advice to anyone if you are experiencing pain is to see the dentist ASAP to get on antibiotics. The infection won’t go away. Even if you do things to find comfort the infection will come back, so take care of that and then fix whatever needs fixing. As for all of those without insurance…I understand. It’s a sad reality. All I can say is VOTE in the next election for the person that you think would provide some change for the tens of thousands of Americans who live their lives without medical and dental insurance. Oh…and as a side comfort…a warm heat pack to the area helps. If it is swollen and infected don’t use cold…use warm. Warm brings the blood to the area and helps with the healing. It also gives some comfort. Good luck to you! This too shall pass.
Wow, I can identify with all of you. I had a abcsess for almost a month, despite that I took Ammoxicillin, amoxicllin and finnaly Clomoiday?? An antibotic…..After a month of suffering my abscess busted, and I felt so much better. I have four teeth I am getting pulled well deserved, they have been giving me problems for years, but I refused to have these teeth fied, now the four teeth have to be pulled. I would rather pull these these than have another abscess !!!
Abscess isn’t the end of the world, but it sure feels like it!!!
Taje care of your teeth so you don’t have to suffer like I have !!!
Its the christmas holidays, and i cant get into a dentist. I have a infection in one of my molars. The gum is purplish beside the tooth that is very sensitive when i bite. What can i do?
L
Dillman,
I would call your physician or dentist (your dentist should either be on call for emergencies or have another dentist who is) and tell them the situation and have them call you in antibiotics so at least you can get started on healing the infection. Also if you are in a lot of pain they can call in a pain killer as well. The infection will only get worse so tackle it now via antibiotics! Good luck 🙂
just wanna know.. if someone knows why.. my chin and part of my lower lip and some of my face is numb after a bad tooth??? on the left side, the tooth doesnt hurt too bad.. matter of fact its stopped hurting just the lower lip part of it.. part of the left side of my face. and left side of my chin is kinda tingly feeling??? and wanna know why???
Well, # 1. I love this. I’vve been trying to go to sleep for hours and yes it is Christmas eve. Just a note on your Vodka. Using this or any other booze will work well however, not for ever. Let this be a lesson to all. In the past 6 hours, I have gone thru 800mg of pennicilin (?), have taken 2 valium 30 minutes apart. Finished my first bottle of vodka and I’m half way thru a bottle of 151 proof rum. My face is still numb, the tooth still hurts like hell and my ear feels like theres a hot poker in it. SO weather you go to the dentist or not. When there is a problem fix it ASAP. Do not wait, just because it doesn’t hurt today does not mean it will not hurt 10 times worse later and YES, probably when everybody is closed.
In the midst of all this pain, heartache, and sorrow I actually have a great story to contribute. I was experiencing pain when I bit down on the back upper molar and throbbing sensations. I recently was downsized and for the first time in my life have no health insurance; very, very scary situation. A friend of a friend who I know vaguely (and is a dentist) offered to do the root canal free of charge. I sat in his dental chair from 10:15 AM to almost 4:00 PM. In that time he did the root canal, filling, permanent crown, touched up another filling and in the previous visit made a bite plate for me. I take very good care of my teeth, and it turns out my local dentist and made bite plates for me that actually aggravated my grinding problem and eventually cracked the tooth that then needed the root canal. Needless to say I have no more trust in my local dentist and will only be returning to have my files released to go somewhere else. I can only say that someone I don’t even know that well giving me over $2,000 worth of dental care is a miraculous gift from God.
Ive had monster toothaches also. The only thing that worked for me was to hold warm not hot but luke warm wiskey on the infected tooth for a few min, till you feel a bit of a burn then spit out and repeat two or three more times … your mouth will thank you … I use Gibson wiskey i dont think it really matters on the brand ….. it also gets the infection out ….
Oh and when you rinse your mouth two or three times with warm wiskey … also
get a hot water bottle as hot as you can get it and place the water bottle on the gum line of your face where your tooth is aching omg feels so good … you will sleep like a baby
I just had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out at once and I immediately developed “dry socket”.
Its when your socket after the extraction dosen’t heal right and your jaw bone and nerve endings are exposed to jerms, air, and food.
It hurts soooooooo bad and even pain pills wont help! not even lortab!
The only thing that can heal and help it is have the doctor put in medicated dressings to take away the horrid pain.
Thats the only way!
Alan: wish I had read your comment earlier – would have saved myself a lot of pain.
Everyone: Some of your posts are really heartbreaking; my story wouldn’t even rate.
Someone somewhere needs to start innovating/reforming in the the field of dentistry – there MUST be a better way to treat people/pain than this!
Wishing you all a pain free New Year.
Ive had three children(one by c-section, 2 naturally), had my gallbladder removed, had tonsils out, had appendix removed, had my bladder stretched, had 2 hernias repaired, and have suffered countless days through the wretched pain of severe menstral cramps…and still, I would rather endure all of that in one day than spend another second with the massive, maddening throb thats happening in my mouth right now! I am thinking about a hammer and a screwdriver- a flathead one- angled at the gumline, down onto the bottom of this demon- then whack! A hard hit with a hammer- how heavenly!
8th day of antibiotics, gotten from the emergency room; have 4 pills left; pain was getting better, but its back with a vengence-its mad at me now-the infection has been attacked and is now fighting back-growing-swirling-swelling-laughing at me-…I need stronger antibiotics.
Pain pills: Vicodin, given 20 by ER, have been using sparingly in an effort to make them last, have 10 left, half gone. 1 tablet was working at first, but now 1 does nothing. I cant take 2, because then Id have only 5 doses- thats only a day!
Need more pain pills—back to ER? They may not rescue me again. They said see a dentist! If I could do that, I wouldnt have this problem to begin with! No dentist around here will take my insurance! They all say no to my coverage- or no new patients! I brush my teeth daily!!!! I floss and rinse! I eat healthy! I cant get a doctor or a dentist!
Well, that pill is wearing off, so I guess Im done typing…time to cry and go mad again.
Just over the worst of the pain now – antibiotics is a godsend – sorry – I’m not trying to get you guys down. I’ve never had a blindingly painful toothache before so knew bugger all about them. For anyone who might follow who was as clueless as I was:
1. Looks like 90% of toothaches are caused by either a cavity or an abscess. Use clove oil available at chemists to deal with cavity pain in the short term. Use antibiotics to deal with an abscess. Get them from the emergency room of the hospital if you are in pain + get some industrial strength painkillers there while your at it. PAIN = EMERGENCY, wish I had done that.
Note: if the pain is UNDER your filling – its likely to be an abscess. An abscess is an infection beneath the tooth in at the root caused by decay in the tooth but it causes the inside of the toot (pulp) to swell – thats what causes the pain.
2. What I found worked was cold water – ice water would be great if you had a free unlimited supply of the stuff as you end up taking sips every 10 seconds to quieten the nerve, but cold water from the tap in a large 2 litre bottle of water with a sports cap taken from a 500ml smaller bottle worked for me (the sports cap makes it more difficult to spill, so you can drink while lying down – then spit it out into a nearby basin – you might not sleep but you will get some rest)
When the pain became too unbearable I found relief putting an icecube in my mouth near the gum of the tooth – but never on top of the tooth. A medium sized icecube fits in the cheek fairly well. NEVER crunch the icecube – just let it melt.
Though it did give some peace from the pain (sometimes you just need to get rid of it to keep your sanity), when the icecubes run out expect a really sharp pain – worse than normal until you calm the nerve again with lots of cold water. This is because ice aggravates the gums. Its also dangerous if you try to fall asleep with the cube in your mouth, so know the self-heimlick maneuver just in case; http://www.healthscout.com/ency/1/001983.html
Hope this helps someone. Thank you for being there and helping others. May your pain be over soon.
Hey, I don’t have much of a reply. I’m using this opportunity to get sum things off my chest to people that understand how teeth are a pain in the arse! I have had a severe tooth ache now for several months and everytime i go to the dentist he tells me that the pain should go now that he’s worked on it. But it never does! I’m in such agony at the moment. I literally went mental today from pain and frustration. I don’t get it. Why do people not know how to help such common problems?
I go to uni and start my prac in 2 weeks and I need to be well for it otherwise i will have to take time off for it and I can fail! What is going on? I can’t do anything feeling like this! GRRRRRR!!! Thank You all for listening! It’s good to talk to people who know.I have suffered months and months and months of this! What the hell?!
Jen – have you gone to another dentist? I’d get a second opinion if I were you and the pain had been going on for months!
I had a gum that was painful and began to swell. The pain became unbarable and I was trying anything I could get my hands on around the house to make the throbing and intense pain go away. I mixed a little water and baking soda, to form a paste and put it on my gum. After about 20 minutes, the pain and throbing just went away. The taste wasn’t all that great, but at that point that was the least of my concerns. But the pain stayed gone, it was great….
If the pain just lasted for a second, it would still hurt. But it’s the swollen slow grind burn that makes me want to punch a pupppy in its cute little face. I don’t know what to fucking do, I’ve broken my leg, sprained my ankle, had prolonged ear infections, but nothing prepared me for this. I now know what it’s like to be tortured. For all the grand evolution that turned us from ape to man, we still have to many fucking teeth. These unused wretches that for some reason are called “wisdom teeth” are driving themselves head first into the teeth that I actually use to chew food with. I want to kill them. I with they would manifest themselves as living creatures that I could beat senseless with a pitch fork. KILLLLL MEEE NOOOWWWW!!!
OMG…my poor husband. He’s NOT a baby when it comes to pain, but he’s almost in tears.
His first antibiotic didn’t work. He took ALL his penicillin, but it didn’t work a lick!
So he’s trying clindamycin now. He just started it, and I hope by tonight, which is when it REALLY flares up, at night, (and ONLY on weekends, miraculously! Talk about terrible luck…)
the antibiotics will start to reduce the pain, because I’m tired from staying up with him groaning all night, and he’s not excited about another night of sheer pain and torture.
He tried Tylenols, which took a slight edge off, but he was still in agony.
He tried his prescription for Motrin, 800mg, that didn’t do anything, apparently.
So he ended up taking TWO of his 800mg Motrins, only 3 hours after taking Tylenol.
I stayed up all night, making sure he was still alive, from overdosing!
He just now took a Vicodin, which I’m not excited about, since he took other Tylenols 5 hours ago. Sooooooo much acetametaphin in soooo little time!
Hopefully this will work for the rest of the night. I can’t stand seeing him in pain.
This was his only vicodin, that someone gave him.
(I bet if I search neighbors around here, I can come up with more!!)
This is terrible. I hope he’s all fixed soon.
They really should have dentists that are opened on weekends, cause this is RIDICULOUS!!!!
TWO weekends in a row, this happened, and there’s NOWHERE to turn!
I called the dental emergency numbers, and I even tried our family doctor, who wouldn’t give him anything without SEEING HIM first.
I can’t believe they expect people to suffer like this.
Give us a break!
This is soooo ridiculous!! I go to get a nice cosmetic smile even though I had a nice one to begi with. And now Im in so much freaking pain!! Looks like I’m going to need a root canal. What? The dentist injected a type of medicine into my teeth so that they will last whiter longer. Unfortunately I had a bad reaction. This literally is killing me~I’ve taken everything from advil, excedrin, tynelol, ibuprofen, moltrin, even thatmax strength gel now my friends are telling me take vicodin or vodka. I think Im up for it. Can’t take this anymore. I just hope I don’t get sick from mixing pills in a short period of time. 🙁 Someone come up with some type of pill that actually relieves toothaches!!!!
Vicodin was not working for me! I kept swishing salt water – with LOTS of salt for about 30 minutes. I feel so much better! Just keep doing it. Hope this helps someone.
This is the second time I’m going through this extruciating pain in 3 weeks. I was misdiagnosed the first time from my dentist of 20 years and now he’s magically “quit” his practice. The second dentist is making me wait a week until I have my root canal since i have to wait until the antibiotics kick. I have tried everything and I MEAN everything to relieve the pain and nothing has helped. Like most of you, I’ve tried anbesol (obviously made by imbeciles) since it doesn’t work; tried soaking it on cotton, cotton swab, and even tried dipping the dental floss in it and sliding it through the crack. Worst mistake ever! I tried swishing around salt and water followed by listerine, followed by scotch. I only smelled like a drunk person. Name it, i’ve tried it. Crying didn’t help either. HOnestly, the only thing that has helped get my mind off of it, has been reading these hilarious responses left by my fellow tooth ache counterparts. Hey, atleast we’re not going through it alone! lol I wish us all the best of luck.
PS…I forgot, I havent’ tried oil clove and tea tree oil yet. I just can’t be bothered though. Time to find my ZEN!
I had an emergency root canal yesterday because of an abscess, was so pain full. The thing that is worrying me is the abscess is still there, I am on antibiotics to get rid of it, but what if it pops, does it matter and how will I know, I’ve read that you can die from it if it pops, is that true or are people using scare tactics, I’d really appreciate a reply.
Someone forgot to mention that hydrogen peroxide is probably the nastiest thing you can put in your mouth, on purpose anyway.
It is so far the only thing that has provided me any relief at all in three days. Finally get to pick up my antibio’s tomorrow, until then every few hours I swish this stuff and it fizzles up, burns like the blue hells and then leaves this taste sort of like I made out with the wrong end of a horse. At least that’s how I imagine it.
Called all the dentists near me, no insurance, best wait on any one of them is three weeks without it. I can’t afford a root canal and am considering taking a hammer to the bloody thing.
Wow, I have always had horrible toothaches but today it got really bad. This past saturday night I got one and I didnt sleep all day or night saturday. I tried hydrocodone, percocet, advil, aleve, whatever. It doesnt work. Anywho I was takin penicillin I had just incase there was an infection. On sunday night the pain in that tooth just stopped, I dont remember what I took or what I did but it stopped. I was fine for 2 days until last night After only falling asleep an hour I woke up with pain in that tooth again. Now, the only thing that brings relief is drinking cold water or liquids. I have an appoitment tomorrow and I am tellin him to pull that damn thing. I am not going to be able to sleep again tonight, 2 days without sleep.
I FEEL for everyone of you!!I have been cursed with underdeveloped teeth my whole life.Been in and out of the Dentist since I was 5yrs old!But grew older and insurance ended, now it costs WAY too much to pay for even 1 root canal($800 per tooth!)I get REALLY painfull tooth aches now and then,my solution is 4 200m Ibuprofens every 3 hours and lay your face on a heating pad (krank that SOB to maximum!)If you are lucky the nerve in the tooth will die quickly then you can just have it pulled out,or if you are tough pull it out yourself!I look forward to the day when I can take out all my teeth, put them in a glass of water and sleep without any pain!
P.S. If all else fails pick a fight with a larger stranger hopefully he will knock out that tooth.
Try keeping milk in your mouth for a few minutes, it works! Also i tried lemon juice, lime juice and water but they only worked a little. good luck..x
Let me tell you……….. the baking soda WORKS. Make a paste and put it on the tooth……..My GOSH THE PAIN………. but when its gone the nerve is dead and the pain is gone for good in that tooth
Take a black tea bag (preferably organic) and soak it in organic vanilla until damp all around. Place on affected area by gum, or lightly bite down over affected area. Keep in mouth for about 45 minutes. try not to swallow. Pain will be gone. NOTE: If the pain goes and stays away, it is most likely NOT the tooth, but the gum. Ask your dentist to clean the gums and see if that does anything BEFORE the tooth is removed. The teanic acid in the tea bag sucks bacteria and infection out of gum. The vanilla numbs area. Vanilla is also great for cakner sores! Swish around in mouth for about 30 seconds for canker sores. GOOD LUCK!
One of my teeth broke a month ago. I was stupid should have got it looked at right away. About a week ago it went into agonizing pain. I have a dentist appointment in a week, it will be a tough week.
wanna know what’s funny?
i’ve had this cracked wisdom tooth for about half a year now
it aches now and then
and wats funny is the crack is so convenient now since it somehow ended up havin a smooth layer
just that it freaking hurts once in a while and it goes beyond excruciating.
i’ve had my lower ribs broken once.. due to a 20 feet freefall from my inline skating half pipe stupidity..
and this beats that pain anyday..
starts off with a pulse
grows into a needle
then felt like someone sledge hammered ur face
calms down
then there’s this pulsating blunt ache
sharp
cycle goes on for 2 or 3 hours
then it’s painless again for a couple of days…
finally am gona go to the dentist and say
dude pull it out witha gun or whatever…. it’s fucked
coz today it lasted for a longer time and it screwed everything else up
I am so glad to see so many other people who have the same issues as me. It sucks to know that so many others suffer though. I hate teeth. They have caused me more pain then anything I have ever experienced. Nothing works for a toothache. No pain pills or even perscription pain pills work. All you can do is sit and wait for the agonizing dreadful disgusting paing to cease. After having a root canal a couple of days ago I am still in agony. It is beacuse of all of the pricks from the needle. The doc counted at least 23 to get me numb. It has pretty much destroyed my gums around the tooth. They are all dead due to the amount of trama they recieved from the needle. I have just finished the last antibiotic i recieved a week before the root canal and hope that it stays in my system long enough for the root canal itself and my gums to heal properly. Good luck to all of you!!!
I had teeth pain since last week, but it was that bad, so I decided to let it be. But this Monday, it bacame sooooooooo hurt, I can’t sleep or eat. I went to see my dentist before his office even opened. Actually I forced him to see my tooth while he had appointment with someone else。 I don’t care, I need something to release my pain!!!! My dentist only prescripted some regualr pills, and they had no effect on my at all!!!! My next appointment of my root canal first was scheduled at Sunday. I had 4 days need to wait!!!! My friends tried all the pills they had to help me. Tell you, even hydrocodone didn’t work me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The first pill knocked my down, and gave me about 13 hours good sleep, and then they only made me headache even when I took two pills at same time =_= I kept ice in my mouth for 2 DAYSï¼ï¼ï¼ï¼ï¼ï¼ï¼ï¼ï¼ï¼ï¼ finally one of my firend found some pill can relax the never system ( for the epilepsy patient). Last night I tried 3 different pills at same time, I don’t know which one worked, but I got 5 hours sleep. I am so suprised that I didn’t die, since I mixed so many different prescription drugs at same time.
This morning, I went to my dentist’s office, and DEMANDED him to do something, otherwise I might die of overdose before I can have my first root canal surgery. I showed him my arm,now they are all cover with the blush ( I don’t know which drug I am allergic, and I don’t care, as long as they can get the pain away). He did some exigence treatment for me. Now, it is still painful, but finally I can eat and sleep。
GO TO YOUR DENITST PERSONALLYï¼ï¼ï¼ã€€ï¼¤ï¼¯ã€€ï¼®ï¼¯ï¼´ã€€CALL!!! IF YOU SHOW UP, THEY HAD TO DO SOMETHING FOR YOU!!!!!
PILLS CANNOT HELP THE NERVE PAIN!!!!! I TRIED!!!!
Wow… maybe I can vent here with yall…
3 days ago I had a root canal treatment…for 2 nights in a row I was in soooo much pain (like others) that I almost pulled the fukin tooth out last night… I tried vicoden (10mg) ibuprofen/advil/scotch…etc…
NOTHING WORKS… this morning after getting NO sleep and crying half the night in an agonizing pain like im 6 (im 37)…I went right to the dentists office. He thankfully immediatly saw me and xrayed me only to find out that my root canal was not complete due to a hidden root branch…heres whats wacked…
he pulled the tooth…on its way out he showed me the abcess hanging from the bottom of it…he then cleaned it all up…redid the root canal from the bottom up and replanted it in my mouth again…
WTF…I didnt even know this was possible but sure as shit…its done…
seems that an abscess puts so much pressure on your nerves that it is beyond painful.
when he first pulled the tooth out it actually felt sooooo good…like scratching an annoying itch…kinda odd I know but ahhhhhh.
TEETH SUCK…they brought this grown man to his knees begging for mercy like I never have before
i have come to the conclusion that there is a demon living in my face…. Nothing works except much writhing and pleas to God. I am living with half a face right now…pain has taken up residence in my right half and no mTTER WHAT, has decided that its going to retire there.
I am dying oh my GOD heeelp me
well i fear the dentist, as most of you probly do. i havent been to the dentist in 16 years. the last year i have had a toothache on and off. i would take whatever pills i could. usually masking the pain. but this last time there was nothing i could do. NOTHING. it was a lower wisdom tooth it was chipped and in really bad shape. so i finally decided to call the dentist. crazy.after haering everybody tell me that they will give me antibiotics for a week then pull it. or it may be embedded into the jaw and i would have to go to an oral surgeon, i was pretty freaked out.
so i go to the dentist and she sees the tooth and says” wow, that must hurt” no crap, im thinking.
so the dentist comes in after the xrays and says we can pull it right now. to hell with that, i was not ready for that. so i came up with every excuse icould to get the hell outta there.
so we scheduled the extraction for 4 days later. so i get 4 days to talk myself out of it. i was almost in tears at night thinking about it. they did give me antibiotics and that took out 90 percent of the pain in about a day and a half.
so now im thinking it doesnt hurt, im not going.
but somehow i go. and i am just freakin out. did i tell you i am also deathly afraid of needles.
well they give me 3 shots in the mouth. by the 3rd one i really couldn’t feel it.
it took about 5 white knuckle minutes and he says we got it out of there.
they cleaned me up. and sent me on my way face numb couldnt feel a thing.
now i know your thinking this is one of those stories that i have changed and what a dummy i am for not going sooner. well heres the truth:
i surely am in no hurry to go back. the pain wasnt to bad. even now 3 days after the extraction there is a little throbbing. ill take the pain i have now over a toothache any day of the week.
overall it was worth it. but the fear is fear of the unknown. we dont know whats gonna happen in there. we have never done that. and all the stories you hear.
my wife said it best when she said its like having a baby. everybody has a different story.
one more think to think about is afterwards you get to eat pudding, ice cream and yogurt for a couple days. and if your lucky take vicodin.
