Post-processing: one-third of the job

It’s true. Taking a photograph is only one part of the final image. The rest is what you do afterwards, whether that’s in the dark room or on your computer. Andy Williams posted a couple of his photos, including the before and after shots. It’s amazing the difference that a few minutes in the GIMP will do to a photo! Then, you have to ask yourself, how much is too much?

Noise, Grain, Artifact Reduction – get rid of the scratches!

PhotographyBLOG links to a few interesting articles on photographic noise and defect reduction tools. Wow, the last link is a very lengthy article comparing different products! Unfortunately, only one application has a chance of running natively in Linux, it’s a Java app. The other apps might work in Wine. YMMV!

Smile Please! Don't drool over all those cameras!

Is a photo a real record of what happened if the subject is payed or manipulated? Does it really matter? By the act of being “there”, a photographer has changed the outcome of a situation anyway. Mike Johnston looks at this and covers it in more detail. Read the article if you’re tempted to comment here. It’ll make you think!
And then of course, this report from the PMA this year will make you drool over all the new cameras available! (Plenty more on Digital Journalist!)

Digital Photography is no longer special. It now is photography.

Street Performers

These 2 street performers were out on Patrick’s Street yesterday and attracted a large crowd for their act. I was shopping with Owen and Michelle and stopped for a look..

I had to go back to the car several times to change the parking disk. On the way back I took this photo of St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral, silhouetted by the low sun.
