Or it can be a shield too protecting protestors, or people under threat from greater forces.
This essay by Fritz Hippler, “an employee in the film section of the [Nazi] Propaganda Ministry,” is a very perceptive view of how powerful film would become but it’s not surprising in hind-sight given how successfully the Nazis used propaganda.

Stormy Photo of Paris
Great panoramic photo of Paris taking during a storm! I have a similar photo of the Chicago skyline at home which I must hang up sometime..
Teleconverters – should you use them?
I have to agree with the conclusion of this photo.net article. Teleconverters are handy but it’s very difficult to get usable, good quality images from them.
I use a third party 2x TC on my Sony F717 from time to time, and there’s visible degradation of image quality. The article above recommends using a powerful lens and at most a 1.4x TC so I’m seeing the most dramatic distortion. It does help if I set the EV down one stop but that’s not always an option, especially in cloudy and overcast Ireland!

PhotoMemes.org – Infectious Photo Projects
This website lists quite a few “photo memes” or photo projects that people are running. Sounds like a good idea to me!
Nothing to see here, go away!
Mike Johnston looks at the photo an amateur photographer took on board a cargo plane. This follows on from my previous post on this. Mike’s updating his story as he hears more.
Powerful images, can I print this?
Matt posted a picture of Bush that’s made up from the photos of soldiers killed in Iraq. I heard this was printed in the Mirror Newspaper yesterday. It’s a controversial picture, and Matt received 408 comments on this post!
In related news, a woman lost her job because she took photos of a flag shrouded coffins in a cargo plane. One of the realities of war not broadcast to the public “at home.”
Say "Bye Bye!" to your our old photos!
The reliability of CDRs and writeable digital media in general came up for discussion on Slashdot yesterday (as it does every 6 months or so), but Mark posts that CD-Rs may become unreadable after only 2 years! Damn, that’s scary as I’m archiving my photos to DVD-R now. I’ll probably rewrite my photos next year just to be safe. Check out Mark’s post for a comment I left there with more..
