Observations by a console player on the PC version of Bad Company 2:

  1. Vietnam looks gorgeous. It’s a very different game, maps are so varied. Can’t wait to play them with my console friends.
  2. Voice chat? What’s that. The in-game chat is so broken people use external servers. Useless when playing with randoms.
  3. Guess what? Playing with a team of wookies is just as much fun (not) as it is on consoles.
  4. There’s no skill matching like there is on consoles. Getting into a server where you’re matched up evenly is pot luck. There is some sort of mechanism to even out the teams but you can still have skilled and noob players on each team.
  5. Learning to use the mouse and keyboard instead of a controller is like going from QWERTY to Dvorak. Yes, it’s that painful. At this stage using a controller is second nature and instinctive (except for grenades/melee!) but it will obviously take a while to get there with PC controls again. It’s been over a decade since I used these controls on a regular basis.

Bad Company 2 Vietnam Review

IGN already have a review of Bad Company 2 Vietnam on their site and they give it a thumbs up! They even go so far as to wonder why the expansion isn’t a fully separate game altogether! My guess is that it will encourage more sales of Bad Company 2, while still making sales to existing owners.

Honestly, the most confusing thing about Bad Company 2 – Vietnam is why it isn’t a separate game entirely. EA demonstrated their ability to successfully market and sell a standalone downloadable last summer with Battlefield 1943, and Bad Company 2 – Vietnam is even more distinctive.

Looks like I’ll probably be buying this twice. Once for PS3 and again for the Xbox if enough of my friends on each platform buy it. Let’s make it simple, who’s not buying the Vietnam expansion?

Update! Added the IGN video review!

Error: too much fun on Heavy Metal

I have to admit. Heavy Metal is one of those maps I have fun on, while playing the objective of course!

Here’s a game I played with TheFingersHurt, Gaggapudding and BasicTorshiro on the Xbox a few nights ago. Unfortunately the server crashed after only a few minutes but there was still enough time to get up to some trouble! šŸ™‚

Bad Company 2: Laguna Presa Conquest

Here’s another game of Bad Company 2 I played with the PS3 Coffin Dodgers about 10 days ago. We rocked this game of conquest and I quite like this map too in that game mode. I like alternating between Bravo and Charlie mostly, but when Alpha needs attention I’m over there too!

Thumbs up on Youtube please, or even a thumbs down if that rocks your boat!

Road kill on Heavy Metal!

Paul confessed that he doesn’t remember this road kill last night in Bad Company 2 and when I looked at the footage recorded I know why. He was looking the other way! It was his first time playing the game and here’s what he has to say about it!

Games were first on Xbox with Paul and myfingershurt and later Nick joined us, in another squad but in our XBL party so we could chat!

Late in the evening I hopped over to the PS3 with Nick and joined David for a successful defense of Valparaiso and then an attack on Harvest.

Great games!

Bad Company 2 on the Xbox 360 has better…

Bad Company 2 on the Xbox 360 has better audio than the PS3. At least that’s my impression every time I hear it. Maybe it’s my headphones but the audio sounds clearer, and more vibrant.

Anyway, I joined TheFingersHurt and two of his friends, Gaggapudding and BasicTorshiro for a few games of Bad Company 2 on the Xbox. First up was conquest on Heavy Metal and games on that are as manic as they are when I’m playing with my friends on PS3. Mad racing jeeps, indiscriminate firing of rockets and bumping of each other’s vehicles and that sort of madness!

We played rush on Oasis too, and when attacking failed miserably right until we made a concerted effort. I smoked up the area, we armed Bravo and defended it but it was too late. Still, we defended the same base successfully on the first game too so maybe it’s hard to attack? We tried Cold War too but the less said about that the better. Ahem.

Should have gameplay videos of those games up sometime, the games of on Heavy Metal were especially mad and memorable!

BfBC2 with the PS3 Coffin Dodgers

Here’s a game I played with some of the guys from PS3 Coffin Dodgers on Friday evening. We had a few great games, and about halfway through this one Chris and Duck joined us so I hopped over to their squad. Great game, lots of fun.

As I asked in the video, what games in your collection have you not played? I haven’t played Bioshock 1 (except for a bit of the demo) and 2, only a tiny bit of Assassin’s Creed II, and even stopped playing the last Batman game when MW2 came out last year. I thought Dirt 2 looked superb but I tired of it within a short time. I ask this because I got 2 games for my birthday recently and have yet to even load them up. My wife kindly got me a voucher too, but I wonder what I should spend it on. You can’t buy “spare time” in the shops!

Don’t get me started on my collection of C64 and Amiga titles. I’ve probably played most of the C64 ones but I didn’t have an Amiga that long so I don’t even know what all the good ones are. Must fire up the emulators again some evening for a blast!
