For Halloween DICE should have modified …

For Halloween DICE should have modified the Bad Company 2 killcam so the enemy player had a huge evil grin on his face. Maybe next year. DICE! Are you listening? These are the important things!

That thought occurred to me as I watched a game from the other night where I got a shed load of points for AT mine tank kills. I was grinning from ear to ear in reality! 🙂

While everyone else is playing Black Ops…

While everyone else is playing Black Ops (seriously, 7 friends online and they’re all playing it!) myself and Duck had some kick ass games of Bad Company 2. We didn’t always win, but some hard fought games were had. I’m sure I have some some good clips to dig through over the next few days! 🙂

Yes, I am getting Black Ops, on PS3. It’ll arrive in the next day or so I expect, but what am I really excited about? The new Bad Company 2 map pack and Vietnam Expansion.

The video recording software I use, HDPVRCapture has been updated, and while the homepage hasn’t been updated I was most excited about “Added support for infinite recording time” that appeared in the changelog. I presumed it was like a FIFO buffer but there’s no sign of that or documentation describing it so who knows?

Bad Company 2 VIP Map Pack 7

Oh DICE! How you pull at our heart strings! For months you released map packs that were little more than gameplay mode packs, enabling new modes on existing maps. Now, when Bad Company 2 is facing stiff competition from the upcoming Black Ops you release a map pack with actual new maps!

Details are on the official blog post, but here’s a snippet from it:

VIP Map Pack 7 is on its way to Battlefield: Bad Company 2. This pack will include four maps never before available in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer, two of them being fan favorites Oasis and Harvest Day. As always, this content is free for PC and console VIP players. Read on for the full story.

Game modes: Rush, Conquest, Squad Rush, Squad Deathmatch

Map 2: Harvest Day

Can’t wait to get my hands on those!

Bad Company 2: Smoking on Isla Inocentes Rush

Yet another gameplay, but this time rush on Isla Inocentes. Audio was recorded through my Macbook’s internal microphone and it sounded fine when I played it back before uploading but now I can hear a slight background hiss.
Unfortunately the 3.5mm jack on the Macbook isn’t powered so a cheap and cheerful mic won’t work and I need to use a USB one. Complications, complications, complications!

From the description I posted on Youtube:

Using smoke to confound the enemy on Isla Inocentes. I never do well when I use smoke but it helps the team sometimes. I spend so much time smoking up an area I become a target for snipers. I guess I have to be exposed to enemy fire more often than I like too.

I did figure one important thing from this game. You can spot enemy players through your own smoke.

Audio was recorded on my aging Macbook’s internal mic and it’s nice and loud. Shame about the slight background noise and right at the end my wife came into the kitchen but thankfully didn’t do anything but roll her eyes as I spoke to my computer!

My KDR is slowly creeping up, it’s 0.86 now. I doubt I’ll ever get it to 1.00 simply because I don’t have time to play it that much and my early games in standard resolution really put a dent in my stats. One of these days I’ll be a good player. Yeah. Right.

Defending Bases on Nelson Bay

Bad Company 2 is a game that relies heavily on team work to win matches. None so necessary as when the crates have to be defended in game of rush. Here’s a game where I helped in that role several times.

Notice I got revived? The poor medic got shot down by the same mounted gun that shot me down a moment earlier. Oh dear. (see this video for more of his reviving work..)

Music is a great remix of C64 classic game Delta’s main tune. Remix by Graeme Slapp while the original was by Rob Hubbard.

Defending on Nelson Bay

Another gameplay video, this time Bad Company 2 and on Nelson Bay again. Duck had just signed off but I stayed around for a few more games. In a previous game the team we were playing won a lengthy 30 minute game of rush by C4ing the one remaining MCOM station when they were down to 7 tickets. An act of desperation, and really pissed me off after such a long battle! That’s probably one reason we stuck to Alpha in this base. We had to.

Commentary volume is slightly higher but I had to talk quietly because the rest of my family were in bed and I didn’t want to wake them up!

I have just completed my first commentar…

I have just completed my first commentary and boy is it bad. Not the gameplay, well, that’s only average. What the hell do I talk about for 14 minutes? I ramble on about retro computers, a bit of WordPress, assembler coding, and a tiny bit of gameplay related chatter.

I edited it all in iMovie 08, on Colin’s recommendation, and it was easy enough to use once I learned a few basic tricks.

I don’t know yet if I’ll make it public, but if you’re really curious about it, send me a DM on Twitter and I’ll send you the url when it’s uploaded. Warning, it’s cringe worthy!

In case you’re wondering, I used HDPVRCapture to record the game. I bought EyeTV the day before but it never worked properly so I opened a ticket on their support system. Finally, today they replied. Turns out the EyeTV 3 only supports the North American (NTSC?) HDPVR. It says so, buried deep down in this page. Don’t worry if you can’t find it, you’ll have to hunt. Thankfully they’re giving me a refund. That’s great because HDPVRCapture only cost me $29.95 and works perfectly!

Oh! Hi there Tye!

So we had some great games of Bad Company 2 last night. I was playing for quite a bit with Mike and Duck and sent numerous invites to Tye. When I eventually bumped into him it wasn’t quite in the fashion I expected…

Got some great clips, but it also recorded our voice chat (well, except mine) so I need to configure the PS3 correctly to avoid that in the future. On the other hand, I’m glad I did get Mike’s frantic “Get him! Get him! Get him!” as I danced with an enemy in a small room with knifes out! I was laughing so much it’s probably a good thing I wasn’t recorded!

Edit: Here’s that knife dance. Warning, some of the game chat is NSFW. And a bonus clip too, a sniper montage by Mike!
