Lots of Queen links here.

Tom Baxtor.. great gig!
The band played a blinder! I had my expectations of what the night would be like – soft ballads, poppy tunes, and we got them, and more! They went wild playing faster tracks!
*Yawn* time to go to bed.

The Problem With Music
The Problem With Music – who’d be in a band? (Bono et al aren’t included!)
We're going to see Tom Baxter!
On the way home this evening from my aunt’s home we tuned to Red FM and heard they were offering tickets to go see Tom Baxter performing in the Savoy on Thursday! All you had to do was text in your name followed by the word “baxter” to enter the competition!
I didn’t expect to win, but they rang back a few minutes ago and Jacinta answered a simple question so we’re going to see live music on Thursday! Woo! 🙂
Even Better than the Real Thing Vol.3
I bought Today FM’s newest album on Saturday and it’s an excellent compilation of U2 covers. I love Vertigo done by Kevin Doyle, an Elvis impersonator but there’s some great music on this 2-CD set, and all profits go to the UNICEF Tsunami Relief Fund!
Go buy it, it’s in the shops now!
The mod scene, dead?
Long before mp3 files were causing such a headache for the music industry, original music in the mod scene was inspiring artists and listeners alike all over the world! I’m glad to say that the mod scene is still very much alive.
This search provided me with a wealth of links to explore, and I even found some old favourites and one I remember a friend obsessed about 10 years ago.
The The Mod Archive looks like the place to go for mod stuff these days!
I’ll have to search a little more to find my favourites from the Hornet Archive. Woo! I found the Freedom CD compilation that Hornet released in 1995. Listen to the first track, Kingdom Skies by Jase, or the second track, The Crossing by Necros for a taster of really excellent free music.
You’ll probably want modplug to play your new MOD files. On Debian a simple apt-get install xmms-modplug does the job and you can use the familiar Xmms interface to play them.
Great! The Maniacs of Noise have a download page of their stuff! They have some strange Javascript download mechanism but if you view source you should be able to figure out the simple URLs.
Going further back there’s the brilliantly exploited SID chip of the C64, collected in the High Voltage SID Collection. Ah, nostalgia.
Queen and Paul Rodgers – Dublin, May 14th
Arrgghhh Nnnnoooooo!! Queen and Paul Rodgers are touring this year and 2 concerts in Ireland have been announced! Unfortunately I won’t be here! I’ll be in Chicago!
Here’s the full list of concerts but they’re probably all sold out – the UK concerts sold out within hours of being announced.
I must read that Uncut interview with them soon. I haven’t a clue who Paul Rodgers is!
Jem & They – ding ding ding ding ding
Gah! That ding-ding song is on the radio again! I had to turn down the volume earlier as it was giving me headaches listening to it! Others like it and the singer is talented, but lose the bloody dings please!
Fred – new album on Feb 25th!
Yay! Fred are going to release their second album on February 25th! Release of the album is accompanied by a release tour. They’re playing in Cork on the 26th, but I won’t be in town that night. They are playing in Clon at the end of March so who’s up for a trip down the country? 🙂
Fat Dutch Man – Funny guy dancing
Here’s a video of a fat Dutch man – dancing and singing along to “Ozone’s Dragostea Din Tei”.
It’s a wonder what some people get up to. *shudder*
(Thanks Martin for the link!)
Edit (2016-12-07): added a Youtube version since the link above is now broken. Thanks Reddit. Apparently today is the twelfth anniversary of the video which is actually called Numa Numa.
