I came across an unsettling weblog here. She moved her blog elsewhere. The page is brighter but the background picture she used speaks volumes.

Thank you Rachel for pointing at wunderground.com. Cork City, where I live is covered by them. They also linked to a tourist page on Cork. There’s some nice pictures of Cork here, and lots of info too!
Hehe. Kathy Collins visited Blarney Castle. Myself and Martina went there last year and she kissed the stone, I did it years ago so I declined this time! On the way out we saw something unusual.. A guy in the bushes doing something with his hand that I really shouldn’t describe here.. The two of us were suitably shocked. Thankfully, the middle-aged American tourists behind us didn’t see him. “Yes, ambulance please, I have a man here who can’t breathe after seeing…” *gulp*

Just got a long email from Martina’s friend Caitriona. She’s in New Zealand, moving on to Australia, and then on to Tokyo while the World Cup is on. Several people are upset because she has no interest in soccer!

Virtual PC 5.0.2: Vroom Sputter Sputter Vroooooogasp!it [OS X] allows you to run native Unix programs, Classic and native Mac OS program (9 and X, and some programs dating back 10 years!), and with VPC, any Windows or Intel-based OS’s and programs. Why get a PC with one OS when you could get several with OS X?

Reiter – another wireless weblog.

I found this wireless product listing on the Scan website last night. I may buy something on Monday. There’s an effort to get a wireless lan in Cork running but it’s slow going.

KRSS didn’t work. It reported a bug reading a config file. I’ll mail the author in the morning. I’m just looking at Ampheta Desk now.

Here’s a strange survey! – How many days do you spend online a week then?

I missed this: Smart 2 is out. Smarty is a PHP templating system I would love to have time to try out.

KRSS, a KDE RSS feed client. It looks good. I’ll have to fix libstdc at work first though. It got screwed up in an upgrade of something. Screenshots look good too! Just found a list of RSS readers and KRSS doesn’t seem to be there.

IBM takes Unix server crown from Sun – for the first time in years!

'Always on' Internet plan for …

‘Always on’ Internet plan for 19 towns – The government will fund 90% of the cost “to connect homes, businesses and schools to existing broadband networks.” I like how they say, “existing.” They haven’t been able to do this in the major cities so far, so why do they think they can do it where the infrastructure isn’t as well developed? Of course, they probably mean Eircom hi-speed aka ISDN. *sigh*

Abortion Referendum Wrap-up
The referendum’s been and gone. It was narrowly defeated yesterday. There was just 10,500 votes in it.
Now that it’s over, the major parties have vowed to enact legislation to cover abortion in Ireland. The Taoiseach has stated that he thinks it’s impossible to legislate for every issue the NO side campaigned for.
To further muddy the waters, Dana, who was in the NO camp, says she will fight abortion legislation every step of the way. I wonder what did she think she was voting for when she voted NO..

I saw “A Beautiful Mind” last night. Good film, it was the first time I saw Russell Crowe on tv and didn’t think of him as the Gladiator.

Tow boat madness – Thanks Owen for the link.

If you use MSIE, don’t go here: http://www.liquidwd.freeserve.co.uk/ – It runs cmd.exe on your computer! Apparently anyway, it doesn’t work in Linux.

Peoples Republic of Cork – everyone knows the real capital of Ireland is Cork. This is where I live. hehe.

I got a few trapped emails this morning containing the K-Lez.E virus. It masqueraded as email from F-Secure!

Brian’s looking forward to Global Operations.
