Like many others I bought ARMA II yesterday while it was on sale on Steam. The Six Updater makes it super easy to install the DayZ mod and after a couple of attempts I had joined a server.
I landed on the shore of course and while I was trying to be quiet I only had a few minutes to spare so it wasn’t long before I led 2 zombies in a merry dance along the shoreline before I managed to lose them behind a nearby building. Unfortunately the blood loss I suffered in the attack turned out to be fatal.
My second go was more successful, in that I lasted longer but again I attracted the attention of the local zombies. I outran them and then crawled around a petrol station where all I found was some wire fencing and a couple of empty tin cans. I scampered out of there as fast as my prone body could take me passing within a metre or two of one of those crouched zombies. I got away but I have the shakes from blood loss, no food, no weapons. I don’t expect to last much longer ..
The last few minutes of my third life in DayZ. I was unsuccessful in sneaking around and attracted 3-4 zombies who ran after me to the next town. I figured if I could cut line of sight I’d get away so I dodged around a house and hid behind a shed. It worked! Unfortunately blood loss was too great and I expired a minute later.
No sound as DXTory was recording from the wrong audio device. My character was breathing hard and freaking out. Great atmosphere. Next time I’m just going to run for the woods.
Dang.. it was on sale yesterday? Not sure how I missed that. I have a few mates who’ve been bigging up this Day Z thing to me for a while now.. I’ve been resisting the temptation as I know I can’t afford to lose the inevitable amount of time I’ll lose…
It’s still on sale for another 15 hours! I don’t know how much a time sink it’ll be. If you get into it with friends it could be fun but right now all there is to the game is survival, so that’s limited once the initial sheen wears off. That said, I’m hoping to get into a game tonight with a few lads. Hopefully we can meet up in the game as the spawns are completely random..
Hey Donncha, Clust3r here, your new grunt team mate to be. This game is so amazing because its not actually fun, you’ll see. Its dread with a capital D. What makes this game so great is the happiness you get from staying alive when you get out of a town with a pack full of goodies.
I advise you to have this map open http://dayzdb.com/map#4.129.096 whil playing and pay close attention to the second you spawn in as the name of the area appears briefly on the bottom right side of the screen. You may just be zombie meat for the first few goes but pay attention to that map and try and always no where you are so that others can find you. I have a fecking awesome gun for the first time in this game so If your near Balota tonight when you log in I will come to your aid.
We are slowly amassing bodies now, it was 4 of us last week, the more eyes we have on this map the less other players will mess with you and team mates can sort out zeds.
Later
Thanks Paul! It’ll be 9pm before I’m on tonight and I have to install Teamspeak again! I was last at the docks when I logged out last night which I think is south of where you are. I led a bunch of zombies on a chase down there and they suddenly stopped chasing! 🙂
Something that made me smile. After uploading that video Youtube said, “We detected that your video may be shaky. Would you like us to fix that?”
Errr, yeah. I was at death’s door. You’d shake too! 🙂
9pm sounds perfect. Will hit you up on twitter. Any other lads joining in let me know and I’ll let them have details also.
