I picked this up via delicious earlier but Simon Willison has a lengthy post about it. Good stuff!
Gmail madness!
Yet another “Anyone-want-a-gmail-invite?” thread on ILUG prompted the following on #linux:
<DoC> I’m not that annoyed over it. It’s just there’s enough cruft to wade though on ilug as it is.
<DoC> And the sender gets added to my ~/.enemies 🙂
<DoC> If you don’t have ~/.enemies, you don’t have character.
<dredg> DoC: excellent. i’m quoting that
<bigbro> A UTF-8 character or some other type of character? 😉
* bigbro runs away now…
<DoC> Nerd.
b2 to WordPress rss feeds
One problem with changing blog software is the fact that URLs change. I’ve provided a redirection rule here so you don’t need to change the settings in your aggregator. Take a look at the feed now if you like!
RewriteRule ^b2rss2.php(.*)? /wordpress/wp-inst/wp-feed.php?feed=rss2 [QSA]
Shock! Look at those dogs!
Going to try debian
A Faster, Better Behaved Windows XP
Well, wouldn’t you know it? I don’t have a “Windows” category! Anyway, this guide and links should be very useful to anyone stuck in the dark-side of computing!
Queen album finally released in Iran
Wow! It took this long to get Queen music into Iran, legally! (via songz)
Laptop mp3 server woes
So, a friend has a laptop and wants to use it as an mp3 server in his living room.
Unfortunately he doesn’t know much about computers. After taking charge of said laptop, I’ve since found out that the HD is gone and it’s only a 233MHz Pentium with 32MB RAM. Along with a nice 80GB HD from Komplett or elsewhere it should be enough to play mp3 files shouldn’t it? Even if I have to stick with Windows 98 …. shudder
As a side note, I booted a Knoppix based distro, Local Area Security Linux, to see what hardware was in the machine. Nice bootup! Unfortunately I selected a resolution that the screen didn’t like, but the bootup is nice, picked up the sound card that I wasn’t sure was in there!
Music Leech
Couple of mp3 blogs and sites I got stuff from tonight: Music is a Virus, said the gramophone, Party Ben, Teaching The Indie Kids to Dance Again, the suburbs are killing us, music for robots
Bronicas and Robot Friends: What I Did Last Summer
The September, Sunday Morning Photographer article is out: Bronicas and Robot Friends: What I Did Last Summer.. It’s a little rambling but he’s had an eventful summer! I know what he means about upgrading digital cameras as I bought a film point-and-shoot over 5 years ago and I’d still use it if I used film, yet I’m already thinking (dreaming?) of upgrading my Sony F717!
