Waist-level viewer attachment

.. For your camera! What were you thinking?
For the 99% of the camera market that don’t have swivel bodies (Sony 7×7, 828) or swivel LCDs (Canon G6, and others) this might be useful. It looks like a mirror that reflects the LCD display at the back of digital cameras (so DSLRs are out of luck unless you want to review your photos?) Both digitalphotography blogs and engadget have posts about it and comments. It’s for sale in the UK but you could build one yourself if you’re handy at the ol’ DIY.

Corporate Imagery – McDonalds and Apple

Will Pate had some fun in McDonalds a few days ago. He took a picture of one of their McCafe cups and was verbally set-upon by a member of staff demanding that he delete the photo!
Reminds me of my visit to the Apple Store in Chicago. I took a few photos in there, but was nicely asked by a young guy to stop as photography wasn’t allowed inside the building. I still have the photo, would it hurt to post it here?
I’ll be back there in a few weeks so I may try again!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5

It arrived this morning! I ordered a DMC-Z5 from Pixmania.com last week and DHL delivered it this morning. Unfortunately, the manuals that came with it were in French, German, Italian and Dutch.. None of which I speak with sufficient proficiency to understand some of the finer points of this camera!

With some effort I found this page on the Panasonic website leading me to English language PDF manuals. This came as some surprise because another page said there was no online manual!

Now if only 7dayshop would get the Canon 20D sorted. Royal Mail possibly lost it but it’s the seller who’s responsible.

Later.. A small demo of the optical zoom:

I have two reasons for buying this camera:

  • I don’t want to drag thousands of Euro worth of camera into pubs where there’s lots of drinking and messing. I’m not crazy!
  • A huge number of birds visit my garden every day. It’s great to watch them closely with binoculors but if I can get in close with a camera too it’d be even better!
