After last night’s brilliant performance on PC, which was interrupted by my taking down a helicopter with an unguided RPG I have a new goal in the game.
KDR is all important to most players, despite what they’ll tell you about playing the objective and all that sort of thing. It has to be because you don’t want to be losing firefights all the time, right? It’s no fun spawning on the recon back in your base that has only 1 kill by the end of the game is it?
Wrong! I’m well on the way there already so my goal is a 0.01 KDR!
Sometimes of course enemy soldiers will walk in front of my bullets and stay there long enough to fall over in a funny way but it doesn’t happen very often. Still plenty of opportunity for me to support my team as a medic, assault or engineer of course. (Recon doesn’t count, I never play that role anyway.)
Who’s joining me? (Certain scenes from the Life of Brian flash though my head right there, you’ll know what I mean if you’ve seen it!) I’m docaoimh on Steam, donncha on PC BfBC2 and whenever I play PC games the preferred method of chat is Skype but I have mumble installed too if that’s your thing.
Catch you (or probably not because you’ll sneak up on me) on the Battlefield!
Are you enjoying playing BC2 on the PC at least?
Yeah, I am enjoying it but the methods used to join games annoy me. When I played with TyeWebb first we both played on the same team and we kicked ass but the last time we always ended up on opposite teams! Of course, Tye kicked my ass most of the time!
The console versions might have the handicap of using a controller but at least they allow players to squad up before a game. I really find it odd the PC version doesn’t have something similar and also a “play now” button with configurable game settings to match a server. One of those PC things?
Possibly the best platform to play BfBC2 is the Xbox 360. You have XBL party chat for 8 players, pre-game squad making and players usually only get dumped on to the other team when your own team is full. ‘Course this can lead to a really powerful team of skilled players.. Me and my friends+Coyno and his friends steamrolled through lots of games a few weeks back 🙂
Oh yeah, I have to shut down every other programme on my PC to play the game at 1280×800 at low settings but at least I get > 60fps except when there’s lots of smoke around. I need to start saving up for a games machine for BF3!
When you join a server, it automatically puts you on the team with the fewer players. It wants to keep the teams even. It also won’t allow you to switch unless you’re on the team with more players.
You’re saying the console version allows team stacking (player count, not skill, heh)?
Actually, yes. Most of the time I’ve got friends into a game it’s against full or almost full teams but I remember a game with MrCheapKills on our alternate (low level) accounts where there was only the two of us against 3-4 high level players. In the next game 4 level 50 players joined their team!
It was the 2 of us and maybe 1 other against about 7 I think. Most of the time though the console server try to match your skill levels as I’ve blogged about here before. (I love when my skill level goes down!)
Something’s wrong. I actually enjoyed the last 2 games. They were on Heavy Metal which probably helped as it’s a wide open map and I was on the stronger team but I got a few VADS kills 🙂
Previous game was 32 player conquest on Oasis. Couldn’t turn without stumbling over an enemy soldier.. Went 1-10 in that I think.
Who are you allying with? The Judean People’s Front or The People’s Front of Judea?
Well, I thought the “Judean People’s Front Crack Suicide Squad” could use my help as a medic, especially the paddles to revive them. Plenty of points for me too! 🙂
That a boy. Always look on the bright side of life! (commence whistling)
