by Tommy covers some of the issues, although I find myself thinking things are “good enough” most of the time with jpeg.

It’s very difficult to photograph the moon, not least of which because it’s so far away! Your eyes deceive you when you look at it – sure, it might look as big as the street light but wih distance there’s a lot less light getting to you. This article on photographing the moon is very good and explains the phenomenon well.
Here’s a picture I took on Monday evening in Monkstown. The moon was rising, and after it re-appeared from behind some black clouds I snapped this photo. Originally, the photo had a lot of noise, but by blurring, and “burning” two layers in the GIMP I think I got a nice background and noise free image! Of course, reducing it in size helps a lot to hide that sort of thing!
Enjoy the picture, it’s all we’ll see in Ireland with the storm building outside!

Morguefile.com has what looks like an excellent photography course by Jodie Coston.
I briefly skimmed over lesson 1 and was very impressed. It’s something I’m going to come back to again and again.

According to this press release, Delkin make the “most reliable CDR in the world!”
Excuse me while I don’t believe you and make duplicate copies of all my photos. Anyway, CDR is simple too small for my archival needs. DVD-R is what I need and use and I’m due to make my annual copies of my current archive in the next few weeks.
I really should buy a CD box to store all that media..

Here’s a nice “glowing” effect and described well. Nice simple trick and easily duplicated in the GIMP too!

Wow, a new Samsung phone will have a 5MP camera! I might as well dump my camera now eh?

This piece by Thomas Hawk is yet again another story of a photographer being stopped in New York. I wanted to take photo of Grand Central when I was in New York last year but I never made it over there. Looks like I’ll have to get a permit if I decide to go there again!

Here’s some photos from Shell, Wyoming in the US. The author covered lots of bases – abstract, macro, long exposure water, night shots. Superb!

Must read this copyright application tutorial

You already own it. In most cases, unless you specifically signed away your rights, you – the photographer – own the copyright and the right to license and re-license the image in any way you choose. This is true even if you have not registered your copyright or put your copyright notice on the image. Where registration makes a real difference is when something has gone wrong and your rights are being infringed.

Interesting. You can register your photo with ASMP to help protect your copyright. I haven’t had any problem with copyright yet, and hopefully won’t in the future either!
And did you think you could publish and profit from your City photos?

In addition to property-release issues, you also need to think about copyright concerns vis-a-vis buildings if they were built after December 1, 1990. Before that, buildings did not have copyright protection and were thus, by definition, in the public domain. Shoot away.

I presume that applies in the US, is the law the same in the EU?
