Via the GIMP User Mailing List.. I’d give K Image Database a go but I’m too lazy to go beyond naming directory names! *shrug* Looks nice though!
Make Mine Permanent
Here we go again, backups backups backups! Mike Johnston, the Sunday Morning Photographer has an article on Finding The Best CDRs. I think most useful comment from the entire piece is the follow..
But I think that if all discs were marked in the store on an A to F scale for permanence, the market might speak differently.
Critiques I like
Wow! This critique made me sit back and think. I dragged my camera around town on Saturday afternoon and while I didn’t get any great shots Luis’ words were ringing in my ears. Thanks, much appreciated!
There’s lots of “picturesque”, risk-free, sentimental images….that look like a standardized catalog of themes I can only characterize as “safe” and “pleasant”. They confirm, but do not challenge the average viewer’s expectations of the world.
How To Get Googled for nigritude ultramarine
Now, this competition looks interesting! There’s an iPod and a 17″ LCD to go to the winner so maybe I should get my SEO hat on!
This Google Search will be one to watch over the next few weeks!
(See! I managed to avoid mentioning nigritude ultramarine for the whole of this post! Oh. Doh!)
What does tgif stand for?
Silly me, I should have guessed this, but I didn’t know what TGIF stood for. Diamond on #linux suggested, “Toes Go In First”, but that just confused me. Thankfully Google came to the rescue with the above link!
Moments later Kevin came up with the correct, “thank god it’s friday!” but then qualified his remark with, “well, not really, i’m an atheist. why would i thank some figment of mass hysteria about some arbitrary designation of time?”
Ann replied, “‘thank the anglo-saxons for the use of the phrase friday plus thank society for organising around a weekend’ just isn’t as catchy.’
Hmm.. I can’t repeat what Pron /msged me but the conversation degenerated quickly after that…
Death in the Afternoon
Death in the Afternoon – bullfighting still persists in some areas of Spain, and while I don’t agree with it, it’s a huge part of Spanish culture. Michael Reichmann, the author, has posted some great photos in this article, but please don’t read it if the subject at hand bothers you!
I do love this photo however, and it’s safe material to view!
May Day Photos – Part 3!
Kerry, Kerry, Kerry..
and in other news, Robert Fisk writes about an attack on wounded Iraqis by US helicopters.. Here’s the unreal, shocking video of the event.
“there’s a wounded one, get him”
Stoppies, Again!
A few months ago a guy biked up and down outside the office here doing stoppies and basically making a lot of noise and destroying his bike! Well, here’s a much better photo of a stoppie from a great angle. Owen – want to oblige sometime?
National Archives of Ireland
The National Archives of Ireland were talked about on Radio 1 this morning in a very interesting conversation retelling stories about Maud Gonne, Patrick Kavanagh and others. Kae noticed that the Javascript on the site doesn’t work in Mozilla, but there’s an ugly text only interface that is fully functional so we’re not left in the cold entirely!
