I’m just back from the dentist. 3 fillings. Part of my mouth is numb..

In better news, I plugged in my firewire card last night and hooked up my miniDV camera. I didn’t know how it would record data off a tape on the camera but in fact, you can control the playback functions of the camera from the computer! I recorded Roisin’s christening and now I’m going to add some transitions and edit it a bit in the supplied software (MGI something or other).

Essay on Google, information, humans and computers.

Edit: in 2019 that blog post is long gone, but you can find it here thanks to the Wayback Machine.

How much ass does Google kick? All of it.

Remember when searching the Internet was hard? The dark days when we relied on dumb-as-sand machine intelligences, like those on the back-ends of AltaVista and Lycos, to rank the documents that matched our keywords? The grim era before Google, when searching was a spew of boolean mumbo-jumbo, NEAR this, NOT that, AND the other?

God, that sucked.

Voidstar has some good stuff. Why isn’t Broadband happening in the UK? is one essay I liked. The situation is a lot worse in Ireland though 🙁

Bruce responds to Mundie – I’ve had this page open for the past 24 hours (hehe.. Galeon *is* stable) and I’ve been meaning to read it but..

That’s the problem with tabs and reliable software. I open so many windows and mean to read it all but I never get around to reading each article I come across. It’s sort of like reading books as I think I covered a few weeks ago.
BTW – that last paragraph was tongue in cheek if you hadn’t noticed!

Google haven’t indexed my site in a while.

Daypop are much better at keeping up-to-date here.

I was just spammed. Nothing new there, but this was from a charity. You’ve probably heard of them, Concern. They are a worth while cause, heck, I even fasted for 24 hours for them a few years ago but this was the 3rd spam I got off them so off to Spamcop I go and report the mail. I’m feeling slightly guilty, but I know I never signed up to any of their mailings.
I couldn’t remember the spamcop URL so I did a google search and came across a few interesting titbits.
