Why IE is sometimes faster – it doesn’t follow the usual TCP/IP rules. This kind of sounds like persistent connections to me, and Apache supports that. When a client makes a HTTP1.1 request to an appropriately configured Apache or many other brand HTTP server, the server sends data and can then half-shutdown the connection to the client. That means that subsequent requests go through faster. This might be what he discovered but I could be wrong!
