I just heard Robert Fisk talk on Today FM. He told how the tank that fired on the Palestine Hotel wasn’t being sniped upon. He was halfway between the tank and the hotel itself and didn’t hear any attack. A French film crew in the hotel were filming the tank for 5 minutes and didn’t record any shots. Hours later did an American General not announce that the tank was under attack from snipers? Was he covering up something?
Robert described seeing a father raise his child to a camera for the world to see: all that was left of the child was a head, torso and one arm. The world will never see those images.
Roberted posted an excellent article this morning from Baghdad. Go read it.

Connecting a Nokia 7650 to Linux via Bluetooth
And for my next trick I shall get my 7650 talking to Linux via the Bluetooth dongle that arrived in the post yesterday.
This howto is useful, and links to the Bluez howto too. Unfortunately it all looks rather beta and requires the user compile and patch code.
‘s funny, the CD that comes with the dongle just asks you to run setup.exe (although I couldn’t get it to see my Nokia when I ran it in WinXP last night..)
So, as ever, Linux needs to catch up in this area but then Microsoft and Apple are catching up with Linux in others. (No, I refuse to get into a fight with you Mark on this.. hehe!)
Teeth, teeth, teeth..
I’m after my root canal now. I had it done this morning. I was expecting the worst as I walked into the dentist’s surgery.
It took an hour, I didn’t feel any pain but a lot of discomfort having my mouth open for so long! I was given and injection, the dentist drilled down into the tooth a bit and then started poking small rods into the tooth to clear it out. Just like clearing out a pipe!
When he was certain the tooth was as clear as he could get it, he filled the tooth with small plastic pins which he then melted into my tooth using a bunsen-burner heated instrument!
Finally, a filling was put on top, an xray taken of the tooth and I was told that the procedure went perfectly.
Then I coughed up the ridiculous amount of money dentists charge and our PRSI doesn’t cover.. I’ll have to send off that tax-relief form and hope I get some of it back!

Great! a cross-browser version of the Javascript Colormatcher!
Vodafone GPRS pricing revised
Vodafone have revised their GPRS pricing and it’s now a lot cheaper (AFAIR). Thankfully my USB Bluetooth adaptor came yesterday (Thanks Niall!), so now I only have to figure out how to get it working in Linux with my Nokia 7650! Any help appreciated! (via Peter)
Edit in 2025: I fixed the link to that pricing page. Look at that, 3 Euro per megabyte of GPRS data. You’d burn through that looking at Facebook in a second or two.

b2 ideas
Eadz posted excellent ideas for the future of b2. Some I agree with, some I’m not so sure about. I’ll have a look at them during the week, it’s too nice outside to work at a PC today!

Linux Keyboard binding DataBase
Great list of keyboard bindings thanks to Padraig!
b2, plugins?
Via the b2 formums I found a blogshare scraper that emulates the MT plugin. It grabs the Price and P/E of a blog. I created a Smarty enabled one, but isn’t it about time we had b2 plugins? I’ll have to think about that..
