Aboard the Jeanie Johnston

The Jeanie Johnston is a replica of the ships that made the difficult journey to the United States during the Irish Famine in the 19th Century. It was docked in Cobh at the weekend and Ronan (pictured below in the galley) very kindly gave myself and Justin a tour of the ship! Thank you Donogh for ringing ahead, and I owe you a pint or two next time! Enjoy the photos!

Cobh Peoples Regatta, 2005

It’s been a busy weekend. I went down to Cobh tonight to see the firewords and capture the mood of the people in photos.. Everyone was in great form and the fireworks were a great end to the Regatta.

This is part 1 of a 2 part series of shots. Part 2 comes tomorrow and will have pictures from inside the Jeanie Johnston (Thanks Donogh and Ronan!) and shots of the band that played the night away…
Ryan was there too, and he has some stunning shots of the fireworks and the fairground!

Update! This blog was mentioned on Red FM a few minutes ago! I emailed them but didn’t honestly expect to hear anything back! Great!

Catching the Sprat

Every year the mackerel come in close to shore chasing the sprat the feed on. Further up the food chain, fishermen around Cork Harbour have a boom time in August feeding on the mackerel.
As the mackerel chase the sprat the sprat desperately jump out of the water with their predators following closely. This results in “breaks” as the water foams and explodes with the annual chase!
This picture was taken last night in Kinsale where a large group of men, women and children were enjoying the fishing and the spectacle.
