Jacinta and I passed by this beautiful scene as walked back towards town!

As usual, Mark’s been busy. He linked to a number of articles I didn’t see until this afternoon for obvious reasons! Oh, expect a few photos from Gugan Barra over the next few days. Got some great snaps out there yesterday!

The sea outside Courtmacsherry a week ago.

Jacinta and I were down in Courtmacsherry on Sunday afternoon last. It was an eventful afternoon, shortly after bumping into Micheál Martin we came to the point of the headland we we walking on.
Walking carefully, aware of the steep grassy/rocky slope down to the thundering sea below we watched in amazement and horror as a little boy, hardly more than 4 years old walked up with a small dog on a long lead. He carried the dog for a short distance with the lead dangling dangerously around his legs.
We stood still watching him approach, and as he dragged the dog down the slope by the light in the picture. His sister and brothers appeared shortly afterwards with a very unworried looking father trailing the group! We walked on a little but watched as the father rested on the ground while his kids ran amock on the slope! *gulp*

Vitriolica has some great sketches, quite amusing too! 🙂

Just yards from where I took yesterday’s photo This is a photo taken through the tall windows there. If I knew more about architecture and history I could probably tell you all about the origins of the Abbey and the style of windows pictured here, but I’ll leave that as an exercise for the reader!

Mark points at Digital Black & White | Dynamic Artwork which explains several ways of converting colour images to black and white. I personally use the greyscale tool, or the saturation tool, and afterwards i[ the contrast using “Curves”.
Not withstanding the feel of B/W anyway, it’s great if you’ve shot a load of photos with the wrong white balance setting! 🙂

When you’re working your camera on the street what can you do if someone doesn’t like you taking their photo?
Andy Williams offers his opinion that it’s legal to take photos of people in a public place. If you want to publish commercially you need a model release. That’s in the States. It’s probably quite similar here.
A quick Google search unearthed this and of course this. The former link is a long article about photography and the law in France. It’s an enlightening look through the ages and a frightening look into the commercial world of tv rights and copyright.

The saying that the street belongs to all no longer holds true.

Today’s picture was taken in Timoleague Abbey, Co. Cork. I’ve passed by the Abbey hundreds of times over the years but I can’t remember ever venturing into it.
There’s a sketch of the Abbey drawn by my Uncle at home and it’s hardly changed in the almost 30 years since it was drawn!

Today’s photo was taken in Church Bay on Saturday afternoon last. Pictured is Roches Point, and 2 yachts sailing back to Crosshaven, no doubt going back to the Cork Week festival (note – listen to the Langer Song to get a flavour of what you’re likely to come across there!)
