Latest photo: Running water over at the Gun Powder Mills in Ballincollig, Cork, Ireland.

A strange thing happened today. After calibrating my monitor yesterday, one guide suggested changing the temperature of the monitor to “6500K” when displaying images as that’s how the photographer probably wanted them viewed. I made the change, shook my head at the duller look of my monitor but now I don’t notice it. I am consiously thinking about the fact that the monitor isn’t quite as “bright” yet it appears that way to me.When I restore the “9300K” mode the screen appears terribly bright and I have to avert my gaze for a few seconds!
Photos do look better in 6500K mode, and I guess the screen is easier on my eyes. I don’t think I’ll be switching back any time soon.

John was rambling about knowledge management tools and pointed at Zoe, self described as doing “for email (starting with your personal mailbox) what Google did for the web…”
It’s Java, must give it a go tomorrow. I’ll have to find out again how to install a JRE of course!

My cat – first online photo with the new camera! Some manipulation done in the GIMP but it didn’t require much. Colour balance was fairly ok already, and only need to up the contrast to bring out more detail in the fur.

I relented today, gave into temptation and bought a Fujifilm 2800z! Initial impressions are very good. Image quality is amazing and writing even large 1600×1200 fine-quality images to memory takes only 2 seconds. Some of the comments here suggested the camera was weak in low light. I’ll agree the image looks blurry in the viewfinder but I took a couple of dark indoor photos successfully. I didn’t think the LCD screen was too dark indoors either, but perhaps the room wasn’t dark enough.
Image quality is amazing! Expect more photos on photosig from me!

I must install gThumb when I get home. It looks nice and I have to start organising my photographs soon!

Interesting day today. I’m off work for a few days so I cycled around Blackrock with my camera.
Down in the Line I had the camera set up to snap two of the bridges that span that old railway line when two lads came down the path on their bikes. I asked them to pose for a photo while cycling, which they declined to do at first but later they came back and I snapped a pic of them (link later). I told them it was for a website and they went off. They came back shortly and asked how they could see the photo, so I tried to tell them about photosig, but rememebered that you need to become a member there to do most things, so..

“D’you know Google.com?”
“Yeah, we go there in school.”
“Right, do a search for my name, donncha, that’s d-o-n-n-c-h-a, my homepage is the second link, I’ll post a link there.”

With that, they went off.
Google just found another function: It’s now a means for total strangers to pass on complex information without resorting to pen and paper.
