A few months ago a guy biked up and down outside the office here doing stoppies and basically making a lot of noise and destroying his bike! Well, here’s a much better photo of a stoppie from a great angle. Owen – want to oblige sometime?

National Archives of Ireland
The National Archives of Ireland were talked about on Radio 1 this morning in a very interesting conversation retelling stories about Maud Gonne, Patrick Kavanagh and others. Kae noticed that the Javascript on the site doesn’t work in Mozilla, but there’s an ugly text only interface that is fully functional so we’re not left in the cold entirely!
From the Deadly to the Bizarre!
This guy had a lucky escape! Builder survives nailgun accident – see the xray! 6 nails in his head! Wow!
And then there was the woman who bought 10,000 Mars bars.. Won’t need to worry about breakfast for a while! hehe.
And it seems IRC is under attack!
Still, I.R.C. perhaps most closely resembles the cantina scene in “Star Wars”: a louche hangout of digital smugglers, pirates, curiosity seekers and the people who love them (or hunt them). There seem to be I.R.C. channels dedicated to every sexual fetish, and I.R.C. users speculate that terrorists also use the networks to communicate in relative obscurity.
Sounds like a really bad place. Maybe Bosco lovers congregate there or something? 😛
On the Joe Duffy Show: Miracle Cure for Cancer!
Discussion on the Joe Duffy show centres around signs propped up around the country promising miracle 24-hour cures for cancer! One doctor came on the radio and said he it was the chemo therapy that killed his patients, not the fact that his herbal drink didn’t work. A good search found some interesting stories about Dr Pascal Carmody and Dr Freida Keane-Carmody. Yet another doctor, William Howard Porter is also in trouble, but it’s not clear if he has been noticed by the Irish authorities.
Photodynamic Therapy was one of the therapies offered by Pascal Carmody..
What a day!
Wow, hell of a day. So many cool things going on today it’s impossible to list them all. I would like to say that Fred stole the show with their performance, but I was glad things were running late otherwise I would have missed the gorgeous Micha from Slovakia! Here’s a big hello to the Slovaks in the crowd, they made the day with their cheering and enthusiastic flag waving and general mayhem! hehe.
*phew* Wacked.
Mizen to Malin 2004!
Hehe.. Owen’s kept busy today. 80 minis visited the garage on their round-Ireland trip which started at Kevin O’Leary’s in Silversprings! He has more on his blog, including photos of lots and lots of minis!
May Day Celebrations in Cork!
There’s lots happening in Cork tomorrow!
On May 1st, the EU expands from 15 to 25 members with the addition of many East European states. Ireland holds the rotating presidency of the European Union and as such, we’re hosting delegations from the incoming states in various cities and areas around the country!
Cork is hosting the Slovak group, and it looks like tomorrow’s going to be a busy day in the city! Even better, Fred are playing on a stage in Patrick’s Street just after 5pm! (Thanks Donnchadh for that link!)
Commission advises against use of e-voting
Woo! E-voting (as it is in Ireland) has been turned down by the commission that investigated the issue. There were many concerns about security, secrecy and privacy but in the last few weeks nothing was heard from opponents of the system.
The Government has been running a campaign advocating e-voting, and it has over-simplified the issues (“Press a button”, “We’ve had plenty of practise”, etc..)
Hopefully the Government will clean up their act and implement a good system, and maybe it won’t cost €40m next time..
More on RTÉ and Labour Party website.
Later… Cullen rules out use of e-voting in June! Yay!
later Still… slashdot picked up on the story, along with OT posts as well, lol.
The King Of Hearts – Live This Weekend!
Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The The King Of Hearts are going to be mighty busy this weekend playing gigs all over Cork and Kerry! Owen has more details but they’ll be appearing in the Coal Quay Bar on Sunday night where much drink will be consumed and a good night will be had by all! Be there or be.. oddly rectangular shaped.
Lights Over Dublin!
Until May 3rd 22 powerful searchlights are going to light up the Dublin sky at night. You can control the lights from their website and it’s apparently very impressive! Maybe I should make my way up to Dublin in the next 2 weeks? I still haven’t seen the Spire and I should, before it rusts away..
