Gnome Apt-rpm repository
This page has lots of useful information if you’re using Red Hat and are a fan of Gnome. It also has the following very valuable nugget of information:
RPM is a little buggy imho (well, at least on rpm 4.1). Sometimes (randomly), rpm will lock up halfway through a query or package install.
The best solution is to open a new terminal as root and perform a killall -9 rpm or killall -9 rpmq (depending on whether you’re installing or querying). Then you need to remove the stale lock files with rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db.00*. You should then have regained control of rpm.

Via Ann on IRC: Bill proposed to allow return of U.S. vets buried in France
“I, along with many other Americans, do not feel that the French government appreciates the sacrifices men and women in uniform have made to defend the freedom that the French enjoy today,” Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite said in introducing legislation providing financial help for the reburial of veterans from the two world wars.
Maybe Ann has a point, “the french really should ask for that statue back…”
Mozilla 1.3 Released
A new version of Mozilla has been released but Galeon hasn’t caught up yet. It depends on Mozilla 1.3b, the previous release. Besides that, Galeon 1.3.3 depends on some updated Gnome libs that apt hasn’t got yet unfortunately. Looks like I’ll be sticking with Galeon 1.27 and Mozilla 1.2.1 for a while…

U.S. tests powerful non-nuclear bomb
I heard this on the news this morning. Via Fark, comes this report that says,
Dropped from a C-130 transport plane and guided by satellite, the MOAB – also known as the Mother of All Bombs – is considered a “bunker buster” because of its ability to destroy command bunkers and underground tunnels.
It’s a 21,000lb bomb, that’s over 9 tonnes!
