Ken Guest started a conversation on IRC asking about an open source Goldmine clone. I’ve thought about this a lot in the past and even started on a web based interface to one, had the pop3 reading done, but then I lost interest in the project and the code has disappeared somewhere!
I searched and found this link directory listing lots of stuff.
I had the idea of using standard mail clients, along with some web interface to a db of users and email history. By using formail to capture outgoing mail, and procmail to capture incoming mail we could stuff that information into a database, maybe use LDAP as an address directory, or simply have “mailto” links on the web interface. The biggest problem is moving the email content from the web interface to the mail client as part of a reply..
This only addresses one aspect of CRM software of course, but it’s the most obvious one I can think of.

On Workspot
Chris Gulker on Workspot – Linux anywhere!
Compare $10 for Workspot to, say, the $8.25 .mac costs: both give you an email account, but .mac’s is via a clunky (read: slow) Webmail interface, where Workspot gives you the full Ximian Evolution email application (with address book that autotypes, calendar, etc. etc.) – it’s what you wished Outlook was.
Sounds interesting, if I had a fast internet connection and wanted to learn about Linux I’d try this. It could be very useful if I was travelling and wanted a familiar desktop to work off too.
I’d probably use a Yahoo account and whatever was available though 😉
Dilbert
Today’s comic is great! *lol*
/Trackballs/
/Trackballs/ is a Marble Madness or Gyroscope clone. Gyroscope was the first C64 disk game I ever had. I was given it by someone but I don’t remember who now.. hmm. must download this tomorrow!
Interview with the KDE and Gnome UI/Usability Developers – OSNews.com
Here’s an excellent interview covering so much stuff I don’t even know where to start when trying to describe it!
Fever! Cork's newest band
Their homepage. I sat in on their rehersal the other night and they’re not bad at all! All the photos on the site are from that night!

Happy Birthday Ruairi and welcome to blogging!
artSIG
From the makers of Photosig comes artSIG, a new website to artistic work. Looks good and the new version of the software will be ported to Photosig in time! They also have an information page too.
The Contiki Operating System and Desktop Environment
Yes, yes, you’ve all probably seen this already as it’s linked from slashdot! This operating system was originally written on the C64, occupies 42k of RAM, and has an impressive array of features, including a web browser! I’m going to watch out for that User-Agent in my access logs.. hehe
Nice looking URLs in b2, part 2
Not ugly URLs, like this one, are now working here. It took quite a bit of hacking and use of mod_rewrite but it appears to be ok now.
The number of mod_rewrite rules in the .htaccess file has gone up, mostly to avoid the problem of css styling disappearing. This line takes care of it:
RewriteRule ^(.*)archives(.*)/templates/(.*) /users/$1/templates/$3 [L]
